  1. good timing for this post! I had the same situation at home last night. I saw my wife about to go at it with the potato and I told her not to bother, I would mangle it out with some pliers
  2. I was tossing magnum bulldawgs this fall without any problem. I paid $175 at LeBarons this summer, sounds like a great deal you got. I'm very pleased with the reel
  3. After catching glimpses of the game all night I happened to turn it back on when there was 11 seconds left, just in time to see we were losing and the puck pretty much frozen along the boards up near the blue line...just goes to show it ain't over till its over!! Fantastic finish.
  4. Lantana is only about 15 minutes south of there and there are a few drift fishing boats. I've been on the Lady K and Sea Mist (out of Boynton Beach) many times. Cost around 40.00 for a 4 hour trip. Bottom fishing you'll catch lots of snappers, grouper and triggerfish. Personally I always fished the upper water column for dolphin/kingfish/wahoo and the odd sailfish...not as many fish but my motto is go big or go home!
  5. marina is totally frozen. I saw people a couple of days ago fishing right out in the middle of the entrance of the marina
  6. I've had 3 of those Maina reels and I'd say they are so so at best. Only reason I bought them was the price. I actually bought 2, but had to return one for defectiveness and that s how I ended up having experiences with three. On the positive side i returned it practically no questions asked. Either that means they have great service or they 've had lots of returns and pretty much expect it to be faulty. Personally I won't buy another. A few months back I bought an Ambassaduer "Record" at LeBarons (because I was tired of the Maina practically falling apart in my hands) for $175 and it has been well worth the money. This is the best musky reel I have owned...having said that it is also the most expensive I've bought. 2nd best I've had would be the Ambassadeur 6500 which is basically the reel everyone owns (at least those who want to spend around 100.00). My advice is get the Ambassadeur for basically the same money rather than the Maina, or spend an extra 50.00 or so and get the "Record". I'm glad I did, the Maina's are basically retired from my box.
  7. Sounds like I missed a good one. To back up a few games though, they have to do something about that goal differential rule as a tiebreaker. when you have teams that have such different talent levels its a stupid tiebreaker...flip a coin for Pete's sakes or penalty minutes or smelliest jersey...whatever it takes but forcing these kids to rack up a 15 goal lead is unsportsmanlike
  8. something that isn't too messy coming back up
  9. I didn't see the game (and I don't know the final score) but i heard at one point it was tied at fours. Kudos to the US for making a game of it.
  10. head shakes like that I'd have to say musky. Like Wayne said, stick that rod as far down the hole as you can to keep the line off the ice. Makes for a far less interesting video but odds are you land a nice fish
  11. Rizzo as in Frank Rizzo Jerky Boys character. On one of the the old formats of this board (4 or 5 years ago) I was the full Frank Rizzo. Then I went to Lakair and everyone thought it was my real name. When the format changed I dropped the "Frank".
  12. great stuff. You know fisherman are superstitious, next time I'm throwing on my Winnie the Pooh jammies and I'm heading for the shallowest water I can find...thank your daughter for the tip
  13. if you want a big spinnerbait get a trainwreck...that's about as big as they come
  14. sadly the world is not watching. People paying attention to junior hockey seems to be only a Canadian pastime. Even hockey countries like Sweden and Finland don't seem to give a you-know-what when it comes to this tourney...so they put it in Canada where the arenas will be full! I remember watching some games in past years when other countries hosted and you could practically shoot a cannon through the arena. Either way, we'll be watching what should amount to some great hockey.
  15. hahah I may take you up on that, I wasn't quite satisfied with some of the things at Brentwood. Next time I have issues I'll let you know. maybe in the spring I'll give one or two of these places a shot. As a kid i thought it was just a hoot walking along in the humber river. By late May i would be out there in just sneakers and shorts...until i discovered a little something called the lamprey eel....just gross. (When I got older I gave up on the suckers and just went on lamprey slaughters)
  16. thanks for the replies. I wonder if Lovers Creek is the one that goes through Brentwood Marine. I was getting a motor fixed there last spring and I did notice a few hanging out at the culvert
  17. I remember as a kid growing up in Etobicoke one of my favorite things was to head down to the Humber River in the spring and catch those bugle-nosed browns. They were always accomodating, you could catch them one after the other. Now that I've got young boys of my own (with very short attention spans) I wonder if anyone knows a creek around Barrie where i might take the boys for half an hour next spring. I think numbers of fish would be more important than size (although i guess a spring sucker is a spring sucker), and shore fishing would be ideal. I've tried the boys out on Simcoe in the boat for perch and they were already bored by the time we pulled away from the launch!
  18. good stuff, somebody tell that bass it is winter! Thanks for the report
  19. ok, here's one for the other team. I used a manual auger for 10 years before switching to gas and all i have to say all these manual auger boosters are INSANE. Gas powered all the way, I will never go back. I may drill 20 holes a day with the power auger or even more. If the fish aren't there, I'm moving. When I had the manual auger I'd probably stop at 10 (or risk a heart attack)! While I've punched holes and set up lines in minutes, I then break out the hibachi, light it up, wait for the coals, cook up some t-bones, eat 'em and watch the manual auger guys who are still getting set up. Once set up, many don't want to move because of the work involved. I can honestly say the gas auger was one of the best fishing purchases I ever made, my only regret was waiting so long to do it.
  20. here I thought you had to be a midget with a case of beer
  21. ...not sure how big that is but I'm assuming pretty small
  22. I pretty much turn and run when the wind shifts (and here I thought the guys with the cover were sissies)
  23. that fish is neat, but the boat....oi vey
  24. that was great Brian, thanks for the laugh
  25. I used to use them but we have a bajillion pike in our lake and they tear 'em apart (ie bite the tail off and there goes the action)
