  1. Was looking for some emerald shiners yesterday for some hammerhandle pike action. Because I know a dozen at Simcoe Bait and Tackle is 5.00 I didn't worry that I only had 8.00 with me. When I stopped there they had no minnows. No problem, I know there's a place in Fesserton on the way north called Huronia Bait and Tackle. Unfortunately my 8.00 wouldn't get me a dozen there. 6 crappy little emerald shiners cost me 6.45! Broke my bank but at least I still got to fish a bit.
  2. have had one problem, would only go full speed (nearly learned that the hard way). 100.00 and it was all fixed.
  3. Water nice and warm in the gulf? Sure you weren't in a swimming pool? We were down there 3 weeks ago when those football players went missing 50 miles out and the water was about 63 degrees. Guess they've had some good weather since we were there! Enjoy it!
  4. when I was kid I used to catch them by hand at the humber river dam they were in there so thick. They would get stacked up so bad you could kneel on the breakwall, reach down into the water, feel around and pull one out. I remember my body getting his mitts on a carp once...what a shock that was, couldn't land it though but got it up to the surface
  5. can't help you out but welcome to the board and good luck
  6. manatee...they may look peacefully but man can they test your drag
  7. are we describing Pamela Anderson? If we are, I agree.
  8. wow, 32 inch waist you're skin over bones! good for you but they don't make men's pants any smaller so stop there
  9. I recognize the Mrs., but you look kind of funny Brian
  10. tarpon would have to be up there for me, and a 55 inch musky would be nice
  11. Thanks for the info, I'm hoping to get there
  12. double cowgirls, train wrecks...when will the madness end? I'm going to troll the 36 inch rapala my buddy got me as a gag gift from BPS
  13. I've got a power drive, which I use almost exclusively on "cruise control". I find the "gas" pedal a bit jerky. Be careful with those things, last year mine broke and was stuck on full speed! The first time it happened when I turned it on nearly fired me right out of the boat.
  14. does it have a realistic shaft length? I remember looking at an inexpensive unit at BPS last summer thinking it wouldn't be good other than for a raft or other flat flotation device. Not sure if its the one you're talking about though
  15. thanks for all the info, hopefully I'll be able to put some of it to use!
  16. right on snag, those are some great looking fish. nicely done
  17. we head down there in a few days and will be staying for a week. I figured the deep sea fishing would be for reef-type fish. The thing i like about the ocean side is the variety of suspended fish...kingfish, wahoo, dolphin, sailfish, barracuda even the dreaded bonita...that fight like stink and swim a hundred miles an hour. I'm less interested in the grouper/snapper bottom-fishing experience. As far as freshwater, on the ocean side down by West Palm I love those little canals that seem to be everywhere and loaded with bass...and the golf course ponds are usually great if you can find a place that will let you fish.
  18. throw a 25 on that and you'll be skipping across the water pretty good! I used to have my niece waterski behind a johnboat with a 9.9! Doesn't take much to get those babies on plane
  19. heading to a part of Florida I've never been to before. I'm quite familiar with canal/pond fishing for bass and deep sea fishing around West Palm Beach, but no clue about the Gulf side. Are there loads of canals/ponds like you would find on the ocean side? Is there party boat style deep sea fishing (ie drift fishing)and is it worth it? Any help appreciated
  20. ...and I'm also on dial-up...the real reason I'm not going to look
  21. I'm not even going to look. Anytime someone says "make sure your sound is up" or "stare at this point on your screen" you know it ain't gonna be good
  22. and a rare victory. After the dino-egg they laid in NYC I'm shocked they won
  23. when my brother dropped out of engineering science at U of T in 2nd year to go to York to become a teacher I though he was truly insane. Now he laughs at me every time I see him. He truly was smart and I was the idiot. Although he makes a little less money than I do, I bet he doesn't work half as much in the course of the year when you factor in summers, Christmas, March Break, "development" days and an 8 am to 4 p.m. work day that involves 2 recesses and a lunch break! I don't even want to talk about his ridiculous sick days allowed. I'll work a 10 hour day, sometimes 6 days a week and often don't stop longer than 5 minutes for lunch. He spends the entire summer with his kids, lots of weeks at the cottage, and several weeks in the winter in Florida. I got no pension, no dental, gotta work holidays...make a good wage but no time to enjoy it. Man do I wish I could turn back time and do it all over.
  24. What a machine! Very nice Lew...may you get 5 good years out of it and then sell it to me for a song
  25. maybe I'll finally get to use my cleats! I ice fish kempenfelt once a year...the charity tournament thats coming up this saturday. What a date to choose too...valentines day...like fishing doesn't get you in enough trouble by itself, they have to stick it on valentines day
