  1. ya you look pretty ticked off in your avatar
  2. too bad it doesn't happen every year. oh well, we're over half way there! always a good time, see lots of OFC'ers and even though I didn't get what I was looking for on the silent auction, the raffle prize tables were good to me!
  3. definitely the community aspect, to me fishing is secondary. To be honest, rarely do i learn anything new about fishing here! But getting to know the people and sharing in their heartaches and happy times is what makes OFC special.
  4. not assumption, its called "history repeating itself" or "there's nothing new under the sun". This topic has come up many times over the years and it usually goes south in a hurry. Hopefully this time is different!
  5. what cudz said...they are surprisingly strong and can be quite frustrating if you don't grab them as close to the light end as possible. When I first tried it in my yard last year the dang worms were close to 10 inches long! I couldn't believe part of them was still buried when they manged to pull out of my fingers and get away. Now I "pin" the light end to the ground and then get a real good grip on the rest of the worm that is still exposed.
  6. Only fished there once, was May last year after pike opened. We did ok for pike, not great numbers but pretty good size (ie 30 inches). Also caught a monster pickerel (around 8 lbs) trolling between the channel and an island
  7. not enough contrast on the sides. I think the light spots on the dark sides of a pike would be more visible if that was a pike. I have caught muskies that have very little markings so here's a vote for musky. To me, pike always look pretty much the same (except those blue or albino freaks)but muskies can have a broad range of appearance from striped to spotted to green to silver...
  8. I see the smallies regularly cruising the shallows after ice out at our cottage
  9. due to dang dial up I can't watch the video but I would put money on it being a believer...or perhaps a swim whiz
  10. wow, this I would like to see. I always figured they raised heavy boats like that up to work on the underside, never would have guessed people flip them
  11. congratulations on your new boat, looks fantastic (and very stable I might add!)
  12. when is the season open? I always thought pike closed for April
  13. and most kids get excited with a sunfish off the dock! I think this young man will have some higher expectations. Some great fish you're getting into
  14. less lakeport around means less gut rot around...other than the unfortunate loss of jobs, this does not sound like such a bad thing. Once these folks can find some new employment the world will be a much better place.
  15. I've burned out a 6500, Shimano Corsair, couple of Pete Maina BPS specials, and am now working on destroying an Ambassadeur Record...if it fails me too (it did survive last season) I may have to look at some of these more costly options
  16. that looks really sharp. i took the snow tires off the wife's van tonight after work, hope to do my car tomorrow after work then MAYBE get the boat from my sister's barn this week-end. Maybe if I tell my wife "But Lew's boat is ready" she'll let me go get it!
  17. haha Roy you sick puppy. Dan every time I come on here you've gone fishing! If its not tunnel-burrowing carp its perch on Erie. Good for you on landing the best one of all...a very understanding wife.
  18. what a beast! and off the coast of Mexico? Didn't know there were great whites in that area
  19. you guys are so lucky...how much longer til june? Nice fish
  20. being prepared not only saves you a lot of aggravation but also everyone else waiting at the launch for you to get the heck out of the way! I know I get pretty frustrated when guys are dinking around at the launch. Personally i shove off asap and fire up the engine once I've drifted away a bit. If it takes some time at least I'm not holding everyone up. If it never fires up I paddle back the 20 feet to the launch or if feeling lazy drop down the trolling motor.
  21. agreed. Always good to be ready before hitting the launch. I don't understand the point of view here though. You start off talking about "someone" at the boat launch having troubles, but then somehow you know how old this person's battery is and how it still had 90% charge. somewhere you lost me. Either you are the guy having no luck at the launch or you followed some stranger back to Walmart to check their battery??
  22. agreed. They fixed up my minn kota trolling motor a few years back. Thing would only run at top speed...nearly fired me into the lake the first time I turned it on and it had this problem
  23. she's a beaut
  24. make them wear their pants at a respectable height until they are 20...by that time common sense should have set in
  25. I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about (and no, I would not pay)
