...its funny because its true I notice the more things change, the more they stay the same. Lots of new faces come and go, but the core stays the same. Pay a visit to Lakair in June and you'll see who I mean.

A few weeks back there was a thread about musky reels...got me thinking my wife should treat me next birthday to a new reel! The shimano curado 300 seemed to get a great review by OFC'ers. My problem is with dial up it takes me an eternity to load some of the websites to check out pricing. Anyone know an approximate price on this reel and a good place to pick one up? Thanks

got my first computer in 2003, signed up shortly after that. OFC was actually the first site I ever registered with, and its the only one I still frequent...and of course I remember our very colourful friend from those days

true, but they could also be the next Lecavalier, Sundin, Malkin, Staal etc etc etc There are more success stories from top picks than failures I would think. Rather than comparing the pick to a monumental bust, wouldn't it make sense to just look at the last 10 years and see who went 2nd over-all? Unfortunately I'm far too lazy to look up who went 2nd lately, although i would imagine there are some pretty good players in that mix. Whoever those guys turn out to be, double their value since next years pick will be a good pick too barring some miracle (free agents coming for half price?)

thanks for posting that. I was hoping to come down for the next sale for a new musky reel but don't see it happening this week-end. Oh well, always next time

this idea I like (although Giguere is old and overpaid but we dumped an overpaid guy in getting him). Not sure if they were smart enough to figure this out or if the salary cap forced them into it. Either way, I'm glad the days of Krushelnyski's and Larry Murphy's and Jason Allison's are over!

if that's true, Burke can not evaluate talent because this team clearly is very bad. I didn't doubt for a moment they would finish near the bottom...maybe something to do with the fact the team was full of 3rd, 4th or really, 5th line players. Stajan is your number 1 centre??? you are a bad team.

I don't follow hockey too closely but as a casual observer I'm not so sure about this statement. The leafs I remember from the last 5 years would be in the playoff hunt right up until the end, usually missing out in the final week (or even final night?). This year they were not even close, and can't even take consolation in a high draft pick. How is this admirable? They are worse than they have been in years and don't even have draft picks to rebuild with.

nuts, and here I thought you bought a porsche. How full you keep your spool will affect the speed too

polygraph area is actually for the fish..."Were you born a bass? Are you attracted to other bass?" ..please answer truthfully

worse enemy - time! Between work, wife, kids, in-laws, community involvement etc I've got minimal time to go the local pond to be annoyed by the dogs/kids there!

this was a real interesting read catching up on this post (hadn't checked in since yesterday). All the best to Stoty and I really don't think this should "tarnish" his memory of the day. We're not all going to have the same opinions of people, so go with your own gut and don't worry about what others say. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) not everyone gets an opportunity to meet the man face to face and see that "he's a good guy". The rest of us have to base our impressions on what we see and hear through the media. I can tell you why I have no respect for him - it was the lying after being caught. To claim they didn't know what they were doing was wrong (snagging a fish and then throwing it back out to be reeled in again) is simply ludicrous when fishing is your living. I agree that we all make mistakes, but its how we deal with our errors that set us apart. You can continue down a dishonest path or you can step up, be a man, and tell the truth and accept the punishment. Its kind of like steroid users in baseball - we already forget about those who confessed, but the guys who tried to lie to cover it up are not easily forgiven.

...you just made me snort coffee out my nose...and I'm not even drinking coffee! I'm not really sure in what way you meant this, but pretty sure pee wee did some activities of ill repute and he got a show again too! Amazing how some people get multiple kicks at the can and others can't catch a break. Might be one of those "friends in high places" scenarios?

Although I don't know him, I don't think he means to be condescending to the guests, I think he's trying to speak in a way that a very young stupid audience would understand. Having said that, I really haven't watched him much since the old "snag the trout put the hook in mouth throw it back out there turn on camera catch fish get caught oops I didn't know that was illegal" thing.

I had a comparable package (Lowe with a 25 johnson and new bowmount minn kota) that I sold 2 years back for 5000.00. Differences were my boat/trailer was slightly newer, my motor slightly older, mine was side console and I kept my fishfinder. I say keep the fishfinder to be sold separately and you'll get around 5750.00. There's lots to like about that set-up, including the fact it looks real clean, but at the end of the day the boat itself is 12 years old and for a lot of people this will hurt the value.

not sure anyone could cast a nightcrawler with a couple of splitshot with a baitcaster so don't give up. Baitcasting takes a bit of practice so do yourself a favor and tie on something with some weight that flies like an arrow. For lobbing a worm out there a baitcaster (notice the irony) wouldn't be my choice.

ya you look pretty ticked off in your avatar

too bad it doesn't happen every year. oh well, we're over half way there! always a good time, see lots of OFC'ers and even though I didn't get what I was looking for on the silent auction, the raffle prize tables were good to me!
-
definitely the community aspect, to me fishing is secondary. To be honest, rarely do i learn anything new about fishing here! But getting to know the people and sharing in their heartaches and happy times is what makes OFC special.

not assumption, its called "history repeating itself" or "there's nothing new under the sun". This topic has come up many times over the years and it usually goes south in a hurry. Hopefully this time is different!

what cudz said...they are surprisingly strong and can be quite frustrating if you don't grab them as close to the light end as possible. When I first tried it in my yard last year the dang worms were close to 10 inches long! I couldn't believe part of them was still buried when they manged to pull out of my fingers and get away. Now I "pin" the light end to the ground and then get a real good grip on the rest of the worm that is still exposed.

Only fished there once, was May last year after pike opened. We did ok for pike, not great numbers but pretty good size (ie 30 inches). Also caught a monster pickerel (around 8 lbs) trolling between the channel and an island
-
not enough contrast on the sides. I think the light spots on the dark sides of a pike would be more visible if that was a pike. I have caught muskies that have very little markings so here's a vote for musky. To me, pike always look pretty much the same (except those blue or albino freaks)but muskies can have a broad range of appearance from striped to spotted to green to silver...

I see the smallies regularly cruising the shallows after ice out at our cottage

due to dang dial up I can't watch the video but I would put money on it being a believer...or perhaps a swim whiz
