  1. It's a lot of work, but those gleaming jars look oh so nice when they are all full. If I get down again this winter for smelt I'd be honored to do a taste test to see if your pickle skills are as good as the bosses. The ones I had last winter where bang on!
  2. Congrats OLD MAN . I'll settle for being grand. I haven't put in the years to be great yet.
  3. Glad to hear Jacob is doing so well. It must be a hugh load off your shoulder's. Now you gotta do your best to keep him from overdoing it until he is 100%. Best wishes to your whole family. Regards, Steve
  4. I use a 15LB mushroom. I retired my 10LB mushroom. Somedays it just wasn't enough.
  5. I left the Belwood/Fergus area in 1981. If you are referring to who I think you are, that guy was a crook 28 years ago. I still have family back home that way and am astonished every time someone mentions that they are still in business. I can't help with any Peterboro locations but I have dealt with Buckeye marine in Bobcaygeon since I bought my first boat from them in 1998. They have always looked after me well. Can't tell you if there prices are high or low compared to others cause I never looked elsewhere because they have been good to me. Over Lindsay way our own Big Cliff will probably be able to help you out. He's a straight shooting honest fellow who you can't go wrong with either. Good luck with your "new toy"
  6. Just did a quick check on Kijiji. There is a 12 ft tinny with a road worthy trailer...that's what the seller says anyway...for $600.it is in Lindsay.
  7. You have a garage so I'm assuming you have a yard as well. Store your motor in the garage and tip the boat over in the back yard.
  8. All the best today. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, get yourself rested up.
  9. Gotta agree with the above statement. Lotsa large farm families where I grew up. Most of my friends never had there own private bedrooms. Big families always manage...and its a good life lesson taught early...showing the younguns how to live within your means. Not tryin to preach to the choir here....cause you gotta do what's best for you and yours. Good luck with whatever road you take.
  10. A lot of great responses here...but I laughed out load at your sons "course of action"....and what a great photo as well. Thx for sharin.
  11. Three great shots. I especially like the last 2. Can't decide which of those 2 is my favorite. Kudo's to you for taking the time with Botbot to teach her about fishing and our natural surroundings. It is time well spent. My daughter loved fishing, or at least spending time with DAD...until she discovered boys ...but now her son just turned 1 and Grandpa is looking forward to fishing with the wee ones again Had my daughter out ice fishing....in a heated hut...when she was 3 months old. I really can't remember if we caught anything, but I do remember all the fishermen in the Bombadiar on the way in and out fussing over Erika and the big smile on Debbe's face the whole time people where fussing over her pride and joy! PLUS breatfeeding in the hut!!!! I would think I was the only guy on Simcoe that got to see boobies on the ice. How can you beat that?
  12. MJL has did a tourney and seems to be up on all the gear/baits etc. I think he would be the obvious choice.
  13. I was thinking the same thing.
  14. Left my favourite crappie/perch float fishing combo on shore up near Orillia once when I unloaded my boat. This spot is not a true boat launch but it does get alot of foot traffic from locals walking there dogs. When I got home to Oshawa I noticed it was not in the car. Booted it back up to Orillia...75-80 minute drive...and my stuff was still there :thumbsup_anim: That was sweet!!!
  15. I kinda like not getting fried out in the sun fishing or doing yard work, and having the house cool in the evening for sleeping without the air conditioner running...I dunno...I would take a summer like this every year.
  16. Glad to hear you got some fishing in outta the new boat Cliff. BTW did you actually land it, or did Andy?
  17. Obviously you have never been to a minor hockey game anywhere in Canada
  18. Nice specks!!! Looks like a good outing to me. All I ever use for stream specks is 4LB line and a chunk of worm on a small #12 hook. Fill your spool real full with line, you will be able to cast much better. Pinch a small split shot a foot or so up your line...but only if you have too. Small spinners work great too if you have room to cast. Good luck next time out.
  19. Our neighbors grandson had a similar surgery last May. He's like a bunny on a caffiene high this summer compared to last. Get rested up now cause when Jacob recovers you are gonna be busy busy busy. Best wishes for the wee man tomorrow.
  20. Exactly what I was thinking. They deemed it neglect...and rightfully so...and refused to pay for it and returned your lure. I don't see that Rapala has done anything wrong here. Just my 2 cents.
  21. That looks like a MONSTER pumpkinseed to me. Catch lots in the early fall on Simcoe where I chase crappies. I have got them up to 10 inches.... never got one even close to that size...what a hog. A PB that will be very difficult to beat, Congrats.
  22. Well done Cliff. And kudos to all involved in helping you get a DEAL.I wish you many good turns on Sturgeon in it. I hope you and the 2 OLD FARTS get a boatful on Sunday.
  23. River/Stream Specs....it's been too long since I got out after some myself. Since my folks sold the cottage up on the Bruce I don't make the time for it down here. Great report and some nice fish. Thx so much for sharing.
  24. The first thing I did....before I even used the knife once...was throw the damn case in the garbage. Can't stand trying to repackage stuff in cases like that...too much farting around. I went out and picked up a tuperware container big enough to just throw everything in. No frustrating repacking for me!!!
  25. Not too many years ago I held the opinion that I would NEVER use an electric. Then my son got me the Rapala electric for christmas one year. Begrudgingly I gave it a go if only to show my son I appreciated his gift. My only regret is I never got one 10 years earlier. I have 3 regular filet knives now that never see a fish anymore. The electric does not waste anymore meat once you get the hang of it and your hands stay cleaner and it is also faster. I see no downside to the electric. The electric knive is especially good on smaller perch. I thought it would butcher the smaller fish...but in fact the opposite is true. 90% of the fish I clean are Perch Crappie and Bluegills. With walleye, pike and the odd whitie as well. Go electric you will not regret it.
