First Tiine to Nipising and a new PB.

What a trip for a few rookies who have never been before. I hope you told them that wasn't a typical day. And congrats on the PB. -
Another great day Cliff. Good on you guys. Sounds like Tim has his huts in the right spot.

Thx admin...onward and upward.

OI I don't consider myself a sheep...but I understand your point of view...which I respect. However back in the day I joined this fishing board to learn and share about fishing. And I would wager that is most every newbie's intent. There is a bunch of NF topics..always has been..so nothing new...but how many heated political threads where we get a little hot under the collar have turned good people away? No one can answer that obviously but I'd wager it's far greater then actual fishing threads chasing people away. People are people and no one solution will be the fix all for every situation...but I truly think politics only sour whatever can be created here. Respectfully CPH. -
Lords knows I've responded to my share....it's like a train wreck that you can't ignore. But at the end of the day it only serves to separate us from each other. Just yesterday I was wagering with fellow fishermen at work that because NF political threads generated so much "BUZZ" they would NEVER disappear. Well today I see the new stance from the board. Overjoyed!!! Glad to see this crap go the way of the dinosaur. Good job guys and glad to see My apologizes for ever doubting. And thx for cleaning house. Now back to regular scheduled programming. Lots of great people and great stories on here that are so much better to share.

Limits on pan fish and limiting out
crappieperchhunter replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
Any water body can be effected by over harvest. Perch fishing on Simcoe which is still really good....isn't what it was 30 years ago when I first started fishing it. I think it would be in far worse shape if the limits had not been put into effect. -
Sounds like a good day to me Cliff. Thx for sharing.
-
Thx Brian. Give us lemons and we will try our best to make lemonade. Still have camp firewood at the cottage that I scavenged from that ice storm and I also got 2 winters worth of good hardwood for the wood stove here at home. Like I said....bring it on.
-
Thx for the heads up HH. Agree with others the wood stove actually made the last ice storm adventure fun. Kept the whole house at 70F. Candles and my coleman lantern did the rest. The kids even came and stayed overnight...because we had heat and they did not. Grilled some veggies baked some potatoes and burned some steaks on the BBQ and played cards at the kitchen table by the light of the coleman lantern. Beer and wine chilling outside on the frozen porch. Bring it on I say.

X2 I concur my friend.

Limits on pan fish and limiting out

There will always be meat hunters with no regards for the resource or the laws and there will always be the hardcore C & R guys who look down on anybody with a stringer of fish. Luckily the vast majority of us fall in the middle of these to extremes. -
Nice rack !!!! Funny how that usually means something entirely different
-
Looks sweet Brian. If I chased bigger fish that's the route I would go. For perch my 4 inch FB3 or my 5 inch Lazer do the job with minimal effort as long as you have sharp blades.
-
Love it Lew. I'd never get tired of seeing that in my yard.
-
Works great Brian. I've been doing it for a long time now.

Scary stuff. You both have been given the gift of a second chance at living a longer life by making healthier choices. Don't squander it. It sounds like your not, and I'm happy to hear that. Carry on and make 2017 and beyond great years.
-
X2 Thx for sharing your story. Nice way to start my day with my morning coffee.

Your favorite meal, snack, in the hut while fishing
crappieperchhunter replied to npt1's topic in General Discussion
I have a portable hut and I'm a walker so I can't be bothered hauling anything for cooking. I pretty much always bring a big wide mouthed Thermos full of soup, chili or stew. Not store bought either...homemade. And some bread or buns for dipping. -
Sorry to hear Cliff....but I have had similar experiences at the TSC here in Bowmanville. Bottom line I won't do business with them anymore and don't even check there flyers anymore. Life's to short to deal with shysters.

LOL my job as well with one buddy of mine.

cooking thread...

Christmas baking here today too Bruce. Snickerdoodles cookies, Shortbread cookies and chocolate xmas bark. Watching the granddaughter this weekend so no Rum and Nog for the whole christmas routine....so that will have to wait until next weekend. -
March IMHO it depends more on wind before the lake skins over. If it's real windy it can get pretty cold and the lakes won't skin over because of the waves on the water. However in perfect windless snowless conditions mother nature can give you 5-6 inches of ice pretty quick. One year I went up to Cooch for my first ice trip on a Sunday and it wasn't safe enough for me. I went again on the Friday...5 days later and there was 7 plus inches of ice and a few sleds where out. Like Sinker I expect to be chipping and stepping somewhere next weekend.

Ice fishing rod size and action?
crappieperchhunter replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
I have to have a 28 or shorter in my hut...anything longer and I'm constantly whacking the roof on missed hooksets. I have stiffer 28's for walleye/whitefish/lakers and real light ones for perch and crappie. I've tried to tone the hooksets down to not whack the roof but I just have not been able to. Like others have mentioned I think a good quality reel is more important. Garbage reels are twice as annoying when they are used in the cold. -
Good to hear Bruce. A buddy who is recently addicted to Gills has been just murdering them on Stony this fall. Since I'm never in Caygeon in the fall I still haven't experienced a fall fish for gills. Really looking forward to it some day. Especially the "not another soul around " thing. One of my fav things about fall fishing. Enjoy your fish fry.
