  1. Good for you LT. Hope all works works out for you. I made a change 7 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did.
  2. Marcum Showdown 5.6 Sonar I've never used electronics for ice fishing. After reading many articles, posts and watching a few you-tube videos I think its time to try one. The Marcum unit looks interesting. Is there anyone who has this model or similar that can give me their opinion of it? Thank you in advance IFH
  3. You brought back some memories and history with your post d_paluch. Back in the 70's the Rod & Club I belong to raise and released wild turkeys just north of your location. I was a junior member of the club at the time and only heard bits a pieces of what they were doing. It was just North of the QEW on the West side of Bronte rd (Hwy 25) one of the members had a home with an apple orchard, they raised the wild turkeys from eggs. I know some were released around his place and also in Bronte PP which backed on to his property. Who knows these birds on your lawn might be distant relatives. Next time I see one of the older members I'll ask him for details.
  4. Great work, you don't see many homemade boats anymore. It sure will be fun to see whats on the bottom, I'll bet you'll see some interesting stuff. On another point I'm a little concerned with the pressure the glass panels have to support. Here's the math, a cubic foot of water weights 62.4 lbs. If the boat draws 4 inches of water the pressure on each square foot of glass will be 20.8 pounds. So if the panels are 2 by 2 there will be just over 83 pounds pushing up on the panel.
  5. Great job PS8, looks real goooood! A friend got a Big Green Egg in the spring and is going to do a butt in the near future. When I send him this thread I'm sure it will get him motivated. Did you monitor the internal temperature of the Butts if so at what temperature did you aim for? When I do mine I aim for 195 F.
  6. Its something I wouldn't stay up for but will check out the NASA site for a replay. It is amazing what is being done. Good to hear all when well.
  7. Ya and they all have been on Yesterday Lake. You know the lake, its the one where the fish were biting good yesterday.
  8. Thanks for the post you’ve brought back many good memories I just checked out the area around the 6th line and Dundas (#5 hwy) on Google maps to see the pond mentioned. Has it ever changed since I was there last. I remember a cattle farm next to the pond and something in the news about some cows drowning when the ice broke. Who knew it would become a good fishing hole. Are we talking about the Riverside that had the Boathouse Bar, disco and patio on the 16 mile creek? If so I spent lots of time there in the mid 70’s. Not to mention working at the live theatre (Oakville Centre For The performing Arts) on the other side of the creek.
  9. They are a beautiful bird, thanks for posting TJ, you got me looking through my archives. A few years ago I noticed blossom peddles falling out of my apple tree. I discovered a few Wax Wings eating the core of the blossoms and dropping the peddles. I got a few pictures but it was difficult to get a good one.
  10. If you have a NAPA or UAP near you try them.
  11. Why do people do this? Easier then taking it to the dump or transfer station. No tipping fees. The ATV club I belong to cleaned up an area of shingles, construction and house garbage. Since then the area has been clean. It seems piles of garbage breed more piles of garbage.
  12. I have the Garmin 60CSx it’s been a great unit for the last 6 years. If I were to get another I’d most likely get one of the 62 series.
  13. Good show, I have a much better understanding of the Asian Carp problem. The 2 brothers do a good job explaining it. I didn't relise how these carp destroy existing fish habitat and how they effect the fishing and water activities we all enjoy. The red neck fishing was quit entertaining, I don't think the Mounties will take kindly to it. I think the bearers to stop them from getting into the great lakes are kind of a Mickey Mouse. But what else can be done. It's only a matter of time. Also enjoyed their interview on the Agenda with Steve Paikin. Looking forward to seeing their other shows in the series on water. Good work Water Brothers!
  14. Nice video and photos, thanks for sharing.
  15. Thanks for the post Gerritt. I'll be near Bancroft this weekend and lets hope the west sky is clear to see this.
  16. I was on an ATV ride in the fall. There were 4 ATVs,a 6 wheel Argo and a Ranger UTV. It was the first time I had been on a ride with a UTV. I was surprised to see how well it handled the gnarly areas with its longer/wider wheel base. He did get hung up a few times and had to choose a different path. In all honesty so did a couple of the ATVs but they where leading and finding the best path through some of the mud holes. It was the 500 model and had no problem keeping up even with 450 pounds of men in it. I never road in it so I can't comment on the ride. I know with the ATV when you are about to hit some really rough areas you can stand up and let your legs smooth things out. A couple things on the negative side would be. There are other tails we travel where a UTV would be too wide. The other is the legal issue of where you can ride it. I know there has been a lot of discussion about this but I'm staying out of it. Hope this information helps you in your decision. I have attached a couple of photos from the ride.
  17. Good idea Irishfield, I'll check Walmart today. A few years ago I stocked up on the old style gas cans as well. They new ones are slow.
  18. I've had same problems as well and more. Mail deliver to me from 2 completely different streets with same number. They also get my mail. Now if I get their mail I circle the address in red marker and write “TRY AGAIN” and put it in the mail box at the post office. One post man would either drop the blue elastics on my drive way or leave them in my mail box. I saved them for a month (17 of them) and went down a saw the post office manager and gave them to him and told him the problem, it stopped. Now for the best. A friend was staying at the house, the post man delivered the mail as he left he took a piss on my fence. She called me at work about this, I came home and once again I visited the manager. He didn't believe it so I told him to come and have a look evidence was still on the fence and the yellow snow was the real give away, not to mention his foot prints. He changed his tune at that point and said he would look into it. It's unfortunate that these things stand out and make the post office look bad. There are many good mail personal but since they do a good job you don't see them. It's only the bad things that make the news.
  19. Many years ago I did a lot of traveling with a company. I enjoyed getting away but always loved arriving back home. I sure gave me an appreciation of my home Canada.
  20. Nice report Nipfisher, looks like you had a great day.
  21. Hold it it here! Did he leave his walleye and musky gear for you to sale in trade for gas? No assumptions here, yes or no! Either way give him his equipment back and take your loses and move on much wiser. Never have any dealings with him again, never again! Remember there are friends and acquaintances.
  22. Nice report King. My dad got me started in ice fishing, you brought back many fine memories, thanks.
  23. Great site Gerritt. A lot of clever fishermen out there.
