  1. I've outfished guys using thier flashers for perch in s hallow water LOTS of times. Those vex's make a racket......and for sure will spook fish if they're in a bad mood! Sinker
  2. Like Mukluck said.....a cheap $5 compass can get you home if your in dire straits. I don't leave home without one. I've been on simcoe, less than a mile out, and you can't see shore in any direction.....it gets spooky quick if you don't know which way is home, and there is open water on the lake still!! Sinker
  3. I've got an X96 that I bought in the spring. Its a good unit for the price. If there are fish, it marks them. I bought it because I had an old eagle portable unit, and this one fits right into it.....so now I use it icefishing as well as on the boat. Works great on the ice too.....an improvement for sure. I have no complaints whatsoever with it. You can't find a better unit for the price IMO.....in that power range, with the same pixel count. It marks bottom at WOT in my boat (30mph).....Good size screen......I like it, and it does what I need it to do. I'm with the guys who say its not the fishfinder that catches the fish. If you can locate structure, and know how to catch fish, its all you need. Spend the rest of your budget on tackle. Sinker
  4. Awesome stuff.....that's what ice fishing is supposed to be like!! I had plans to do the same thing in the morning, but its not looking good with this rain pissing down the way it is here. How was the ice? Sinker
  5. You guys are old I wasn't even a thought yet. '75 was my year. Sinker
  6. I got a couple for my unit out of a bargain bin at CTC a couple weeks ago. No price on it, so I asked......they had no idea.....I offered $10 for them, and they said sure I picked up 2 for $10 Maybe check CT? Summer/winter transducer is the same thing BTW. They both work the same. Sinker
  7. I think I'd be a bit nervous on 3.5-5" of ice with my quad! nice going on the fish though, beauties!! Sinker
  8. Nicest people on the Lake!!
  9. Well, I went down twice I was towing my 2 man, with my son in it!! he laughed his ass off every time I slipped.....Great day for him out there today. We caught a bunch, kept 16 nice ones for dinner. Just ate them Found the same ice you did......around 8" give or take. Plenty safe. Casey's Huts was running huts out......had around 6 or 8 ready to go that I could see. They're running argo's for now, but getting the bombadier ready! It was ice as far as I could see from georgina to Thorah.....looks good. Sinker
  10. You need a good sharp small knife. I use a 4" rapala for perch. Has to be good and sharp, and you have to keep it sharp. I find perch are the worst fish for taking the edge off a knife. After a few, run the knife on a steel to get the edge back. It makes all the difference in the world. I do them exactly like I would a walleye. One tip I do is to cut down both sides of the backbone before removing the first fillet. I find once you remove the first side, the second can get a little sloppy. If you just cut along the backbone on one s ide, then fillet off the other side, its much easier, and better quality fillets. Sinker
  11. Hadden Rd off #48. Follow it to the end......ya can't miss it. Just east of the Ferry dock. Sinker
  12. I have no complaints at all using it thru the ice, just never tried the flasher screen. If I'm marking fish on the graph, I usually catch one. I'm confident using the graph, just curious if the flasher would relay the info faster? I'm going to have to try it out next time I use it.......just to see the difference between the flasher and graph screens when there are fish down there Sinker
  13. Has anyone ever used this flasher option thru the ice? My unit has it as well, but I've never tried it. I just up the ping speed and use the normal graph zoomed in when I'm icefishing. It works great, but I'm just curious if I should be using the flasher option instead? Would it be faster response I wonder? I know the graph takes a couple seconds to see it on the screen. Sinker
  14. You can get a 12 gauge remington 870 Express combo for under $500 pretty much anywhere. That's the smooth barrel, and rifled barrel with iron sights. Pretty good price for a very reliable gun. Once/if you get into it, you'll want a different gun for each type of hunting. Sinker
  15. Merry Brithday........or is it Happy Christmas? Either way, have a great day Sinker
  16. I like my hand auger too......but when we get 18 inches of ice, and you need a hundred holes to locate perch.......have fun drilling while I'm fishing Hand auger is great until there is a foot of ice.........after that it gets to be work. Sinker
  17. That does look good, but do you just hang the transducer right from the wire? You might want to fasten it to something, because the wire where it attaches to the transducer takes a beating in the cold weather if its just dangling. I have mine mounted on 2 pieces of hockey stick with a bolt thru them to make a T. One crosses the hole, the other has the transducer attached, and the wire ziptied to it......and hangs in the hole. Just keeps that wire from breaking at the transducer, and keeps it pointing straight down. Sinker
  18. Whats in the Yellow bag?
  19. I've been off since friday......till Jan. 7th. Getting in a couple last minute duck hunts, then its time to hit the hardwater. maybe I'll run into you out there someplace. i've got a green eskimo quickflip, behind an arctic cat puma. Sinker
  20. Make it the same length of the sled, so when you fold it up, it fits inside the sled. If your making a box sled, have the tow bar attached with quick release pins, then fit it in the box. I just re-read this and realized your making one for a clam........6 ft should be plenty. You should attach the bar along the sides of the sled as well as the front....... attaching to the front like the factory bars, is just asking for failure. You could make me one while your at it Sinker
  21. This whole post was a great read, but this one sentence says it all!! So true!! Sinker
  22. MMMMM......good spam......
  23. My toro pounds out the snow like there is no tomorrow. Not exactly sure on the specs on it, but it will eat its way thru snow deeper than the machine itself is. It just keeps on going and going........my neighbour seems to like it too Sinker
  24. Looks like you picked the perfect time to purchase Just be careful riding with no helmet. Sinker
  25. Only time my jiffy hasn't started was when it was out of gas. I haven't even changed the plugs or anything in it. Put gas in, prime it, pull it, drill holes......its really that easy. I've got a newer 2hp with the 9" blade as well, and it runs great, but seems to take a couple minutes to warm up. The model 30 with the 10" bit is kick ass. Sinker
