I'm pretty sure I was duck hunting right behind you in that first picture.....I could be wrong though. Glad to see you got into some musky action....the orange and black has been the ticket for me on sturg so far this season as well. I haven't targetted eyes since labour day weekend, but we did well on them then........I don't fish as much once hunting starts though. If your heading up there again, shoot me a pm. Yup, just keep at er......I find that's the most important thing with them......never give up!! I haven't been out fishing myself since the duck season opened, so I can't really help ya Jeff. The last musky I caught were all on an orange and black, 1oz spinnerbait though.....I caught about 20 of them on the same spinner. I was hitting the deep weed edges, and transitions from mud to rocks. Most fish were on the weed edges, but hooked a few good ones on transitions.......16-25 FOW.....rocks to mud.....just zig zagging along that line trolling about 3.5 mph. The weed edge fish were all casting though.....I like to cast more than troll, so I catch more casting. Sinker

Sure you can.....its called a waypoint. Not sure how that unit works, but on mine, I just push the mark button twice and it saves it. Then you can go back and edit the waypoint with name, or something you'll remember it by. SInker

My original post should have read 9 years, not 19. But still, its cheap, and I use it at least twice a week, from early april until well into december every year. When I bought the boat, it was decked out, but a tiller. Its still a tiller, I just took some of the stuff out that made it look nice......I just wreck all that stuff doign what I do in it....lol. Duck hunting late in the fall will wreck a nice boat quick! You could call it a utility now.....but with a nice floor and lots of storage. I don't need anything bigger or better.....I'd just wreck it anyways. Its just a starcraft.......16wb I think.....can't remember....I painted over it Its deep and wide, rated for a 40, but the same hull with a console is rated for a 60. Edit: There was one just like mine for sale in the classifieds, but a console. Sinker

I was having the same trouble earlier in the season. I think GCD has the right idea. I switched to a rod with a little slower action and it seems to have helped me out. The extra flex in the rod seems to keep the hooks in, even on lightly hooked fish. Sinker

I've been thru a few boats as well. Inboards and outboards.......the set up mentioned above is the best for versitality and ease of use. I can launch mine alone with a car, fish big water or small back lakes.....troll all day long, or cruise around at 35 MPH. My kids can tube/ski all day long behind it, the wife is comfy........its just the perfect size for a family of 4 with a dad who hunts and fishes like a mad man. I break ice to get in, in the spring, and break ice to get out in the fall. It gets lots of use, and little maintenance required. I'd say in the last 19 years I've spent $500 in maintaining my engine. More on the boat, but that's just in accessories. I've got a '93 40 mariner, on a 16 ft deep and wide Starcraft. Sinker

Just another vote for the Shimano Clarus rods. I have 4 of them, and love them all. I have from ultra light, to heavy.....all great rods with lifetime warranty. All mine were $100 or less from Gagnons. Sinker

Alot more parts to break/fix on an I/O. I'd take the outboard. Easy maintenance, easy repairs........and you can run them later into the season. Sinker

Poorly presented live bait will not out-perform plastics. Poorly presented plastics won't catch much either........its all in the presentation. If you put the right bait in the right place at the right time......bingo! I know, not much help is it...... Sinker

The foam is good because you don't need vapour barrier, and you don't need air space. What it adds up to is more room for insulation, and less cost on vapour barrier. Most new homes with rooms over the garages have the dropped ceilings in the garage sprayed with foam. I'm not familiar with the product you want to use, but I would definitly use the expanding foam to insulate under there. Whatever the cost, it will pay for itself over and over. At our cottage, I used the pink closed cell foam between the floor joists. I put 2 layers of 2" foam all the way through. I got it for free, so price was not a thought, but it made a HUGE difference. Now the floor is always warm, and we don't use as much wood in the stove. Sinker

If you took a 14 ft aluminum out, with more than 1000lbs, you'd know it wasn't really that safe! Common sense will over rule the stamped plate..........it should anyways I have a 16ft deep and wide that's rated for 850 lbs or 5 people, but that's after a 40hp tiller, trolling motor, 2 batteries, and fuel. 1250lbs max on the bare hull! I haul 3 guys and up to 6 dozen duck decoys, no problem. The whole rig is right around 2000lbs......without decoys. P. S....I don't do great lakes.....but it will handle water I'm not willing to run in!! Sinker

I just can't see the justice there. They were charged just over $15/fish. I know a guy who kept one laker over his limit and got charged over $300.......what gives. These guys should be banned from fishing for life. And charged enough, that they have to pay for it for the rest of thier lives. At least they did get caught......most don't. Sinker

It should be getting better by the week now. I want to get out this weekend for a shot at them. This is the last weekend until hunting season starts........then my rods gather dust for a while. By thanksgiving its usually on fire. Sinker

Fish the jig right on the bottom. Just drift with it, or drag it just fast enough that the tail is working. You can tip it with a worm, but I never do. Walleyes bite really light, you may think its just weeds. If it feels different, set the hook. Worm harnesses work good too......rigged on a bottom bouncer. Troll SLOW along weed edges or shoals. Stick to the deep weed edges and you should catch some walleyes......might get lucky with a musky. Sinker

I think its safe to say we're all fisher people on here. Never cleaned a fish before? Its just another fish head........ A lot of people seem to get a little over excited when it comes to a dead musky. Sinker
