  1. Yeah, stay away from the cotton stuff. There is a saying " in cold weather, cotton kills". It holds moisture, not wick it away from your skin. The poly pro stuff is great. I haven't tried the under armour gear yet, but I have it on my list to Santa S.
  2. A chipper/spud is a steel bar with a chisel like end on it used to chip ice. Get one, its the first thing I grab on new ice. Like GB said, chip, step, chip, step. When the spud goes thru on one crack, that's your hole. Fer gawd sakes, be careful out there!!!! Newbies, on new ice is scary!!!! S.
  3. You really should wait for the boat show. If you have the cash to spend on a boat, you can make a great deal there on a brand new boat. You also get to check out a bunch of other boats, so you know whats out there. I know if I had your money, that's what I'd do. Why are you in such a rush? Its December.........you can't use a boat for months. Take your time with a purchase like that. BTW, I was looking at a 22' Starcraft Center console, with a 175 merc saltwater, 9.9 kicker for 10G's. Both engines were 2007's, the hull was a late 90's in mint condition. There are lots of good boats out there for the coin you want to spend. I wouldn't buy that princecraft, I just never like thier hulls. Take it out on bigwater beside a lund or Starcraft and you'll understand why. S.
  4. Hey, that's my address!!!! I don't agree with what they do at CT, so I don't go there to get it!! Do you think the kid that carries your ammo in a locked bag has a PAL?? I highly doubt it!!! S.
  5. How many lives have been saved by the registry?? I've had all my stuff legal from day one, and I've NEVER been asked to see my registration papers/PAL. The only time I use my PAL is to purchase ammo. Its a HUGE money grab. S.
  6. Don't believe everything they tell you. Your better to go for a drive and see for yourself. I've been told by them before that there was no safe ice, only to go up with no fishing gear, and find plenty of ice over 6" thick. I'm sure the big lakes are ice free, but some of the small back lakes are probably doable now. S.
  7. Sweet! Me too. Off till the 4th, then my same weekdays off! Lets get 'er done! S.
  8. Trilene won't slip all the way thru with braid if you melt the end off. The melted end gets stuck.
  9. The key is NOT to go thru the ice!!!!! S.
  10. Hey Tony, I'm going duck hunting in the morning, then thursday getting my ice gear ready. When are you done work We got some fish to catch up with buddy! S.
  11. Nice work jaques. When I was a kid, me and my old man made one on a deer antler.......it was a lot of time consuming work, but boy did it turn out nice. I only wish I got to keep it. My old man still has it, and uses it all the time. S.
  12. Good on ya for getting out. Most people would say "its too cold for fishing". Its all in the adventure.......just getting out in those conditions is an adventure in itself!! I'm sure you guys slept well after that cold!! S.
  13. uni-uni
  14. Nice set up Lew. Congrats! S.
  15. Yeah, I wouldn't put carpet in a boat again either. All it does is hold dirt and stay wet!! S.
  16. Screw BPS!!! They aren't worth the drive! I've been there 4 times, and left with nothing 3 of those trips!! Its over an hour drive for me too. I stick to my local small guys that treat me great, and get what I need!! S.
  17. Nice bass Mike!! s.
  18. Right on Cliff!! Excellent job!! S.

    Rice Lake

Rice lake in bewdley froze over last night. Ice as far as you can see. BJ's has a dozen or so huts ready to go, and bait on the way. S.
  20. What makes the Kawartha's any more dangerous than say.....simcoe? Icefishing is dangerous, anywhere you go. Lose touch with common sense and good judgment, and people die in the best of conditions. Looking at this opportunity as a manner of killing people is wacked if you ask me. Placing bets is just sick!! S.
  21. B-ville cops have always been Pricks!! I'd be pleading not guilty to a charge like that. I'm sure the judge would throw that out. Especially with a witness from the DD company. S.
  22. 8" is fine, 10" is better. S.
  23. Very happy to hear that Cliff. Take good care of her, she deserves it. S.
  24. Its now pooring rain here. What a mess. We've got about 6-8" of wet, nasty stuff on the ground. I wish I had of covered my boat. It took longer to clear it out, than it did the driveway!! She's ready to go for the morning though! S.
  25. Yeah, your impellor should last longer than that for sure. I've had the same one in mine for almost 3 years now. I ram my way into marshes, and shallow water all fall, and no issues yet. It still pumps like the day I put it in there. Warranty won't cover it of course, but it still shouldn't have gone bad that soon. Suck up the $120, and if it happens again in low hours, get the housing checked out. Maybe there is a burr or something in there that is wrecking the impellor? S.
