  1. Its all about the adventure boys!! We'll find them sooner or later! S.
  2. Sweet rides fella's!! Ya gotta love the old dodge's. S.
  3. Hey Ron, what area of the lake are you fishing? I don't want your spot, just east end, west end, central.......etc. I'm going to start fishing a few spots from the west end to the otonabee next week, so I'll keep ya in the loop. If there is one, there should be more. I'd give that spot another good working over if I was you. How deep was it where you seen the one crappie? If I find anything, I'll let ya know. I haven't even tried yet, but I"m close enough that I can run out after work and start my search. Once the days get a little longer, I'll be spending much more time out there. All the slabs I've caught thru the ice have been suspended over deep water. Most times, the deepest water in the lake, but closest to structure. S.
  4. We use the Faber's at work for the kids to use. They don't get used on any hardcore trails or anything, but they hold up pretty well for what the kids put them thru. We haven't had any break yet, in 3 years, so we just ordered another 25 sets. The bindings I put on my wooden shoes are also made by Faber. So far so good on them, but I've only used them a couple times so far. S.
  5. Always use a swivel.........no matter what!! S.
  6. I don't trust TWN at all, when it comes to long range forcasts. Try this one, they are usually pretty close, but their short term sucks. http://www.accuweather.com/canada-forecast...;postalcode=K9V 1A3&metric=1&set=1 S.
  7. I don't understand the question. You should talk to the conservation authority who owns the property, and go from there. If your tresspassing on private property that isn't posted, your still tresspassing. If the landowner is there with a gun, all the more reason to stay the heck off his land!! You've admitted you know its private...... S.
  8. I like my wooden shoes. I just can't seem to find the right time to wear the aluminum ones..........unless its icy, but then I don't need shoes. I will sometimes wear a pair of those cheap, strap on cleats you get at CT, when I put on my wooden rackets. Its not the best rig, but it sure helps up and down the hills. What kind of bindings are you guys using on your wooden shoes? I have a new set to put on mine......can't remember the name of them. I"ll post a pic once I"m home. The traditional leather ones are OK if your just going for a short hike, but if your going into speck country, I want something that's not going to break on me. s.
  9. I've caught a lot of lakers the same way. After watching them eat up my chum, and not touch my jig, I put a salty on a bare hook, and let it go down with the chum. I had a fish on in minutes...........it works like a charm!! Its amazing how they will suck back a hand full of salties, but not touch one on a lure, or a live minnow. S.
  10. Osso electric sells them. They're on Bloor St at Ritson Rd in oshawa. Any electrical supply store will sell them. I usually get them for about $15. S.
  11. Yes, its true. The only lake you can keep eyes, in FMZ 17 is scugog. Check the exceptions in the regs. I've never seen a pike in sturgeon before, and I've fished it for a loooong time! S.
  12. Buy new ones, and make sure the spike on the bottom is sharp too. S.
  13. I have a feeling they'll be deep Cliff. I'd get out off the main weed edge, and start there. Straight out from your place, over the channel, over the flat, where it drops to 12 FOW again. I know I got them there in the fall, so maybe they're still there? S.
  14. Great report Holdfast. Always worth a read. Nice pike too bud!! I usually screw a piece of PVC pipe on the side of my bucket for a rod holder, but I didn't do it last year, and so far haven't done it this year either......I'll prolly lose a rod now LOL. As for the minnows, I keep them in my pail, and change the water frequently to keep it from freezing solid. S.
  15. I'm assuming you mean the 401, not the QEW? LOL If you need more help with the directions, shoot me a pm and I'll get you the proper directions from where you'll be. I'd still hit the bog though if I was you...............lake simcoe is less than an hour away too.........for perch on the east side. S.
  16. A bungee isn't going to stop anything 50lbs when you hit something doing 80km/hour. Its no joke, make sure your weight is secured good, or your wasting your time. That bag of sand will take your head off!!!!! I always used patio slabs in my trucks, with a frame braced to the front of the truck bed. Usually 6 slabs is good. It makes a big difference on traction. If your only adding a couple hundred pounds, you might as well not add anything at all. I found I needed 600lbs to make any noticeable difference, and the truck/van will ride better with that weight. You can still pile your cargo on top of the slabs too..........keeps things somewhat neat. S.
  17. Dedicated snow tires are like night and day compared to all seasons. I drive an AWD vehicle, and still run dedicated snows. I even splurge and get the best ones I can find. I wouldn't drive in winter without them. They are the only part of your vehicle that touches the road!!! S.
  18. Yep, thanks for clearing that up, your 100% correct!! S.
  19. I use whatever is cheapest!!!! Really, how much difference can it make?? S.

    Ice Line

I used braid most of last season, and found it pretty good. Any line will work though, and any line will freeze. There is no getting away from it. I find the braid has more positives than negatives.......especially in deep water. I always use a seaguar fluoro leader. S.
  21. Heres mine. Nothing fancy, but it gets me to the fish, and the birds every time. Starcraft 16WB w/ 40 mariner TILLER S.
  22. Tightlines will have bait. They're on Brock St., just south of the 401, on the west side. Frenchmans bay is west of Brock St, south of Bayly, between liverpool and whites rd. You probably want the whites rd access,to the boat launch, but I would have to look up street names, and I just don't feel like doing that right now. Head south on whites, and find the lake....... S.
  23. Try Caseys in port bolster. You get lucky there and hook into the odd whitey sometimes too. Great operation, they have everything you need there, and Leona is the nicest ladie on the lake!!! S.
  24. The service canada kiosk downtown should have them too. I bought a turkey license in there anyways.......... S.
  25. So, do you prefer an 8", or 6" auger Make sure and check as you go eh S.
