  1. Actually, the window to fish quinte is quite huge. Guys have been fishing it since late november/early december thru the ice. The season is open for all but 10 weeks of the year, so you cant say the window is small or non existent. The window hardly closes, you just have to go do it.
  2. Thanks for that lol.....we got 6 between 3 of us. Saw lots caught too.
  3. Macho minnow/mr. Champs and buckshots have been working best for me. Gold is always my go to. Sidewinders, smoothies, and jiggin raps are always in the line up too. I prefer mud minnows to shiners, as do most quinte anglers. If you want spots to try, pm me. I wont post those details online, but be happy to help. I was there all weekend. Kinda slow saturday evening but sunday morning was decent. S.
  4. Shoot me a message of you go. I work that week, off the 2nd and 3rd. I can show you a few spots to try. S.
  5. You wont know if you don't go. I'd go. I fish there quite a bit. If there's ice, there will be fish. PM me if you need details, hell, I may even be able to join you and show you around a bit. The fish are moving INTO the bay in the winter from Lake O. They spawn in the rivers and stage in the bay, so the later the better. That said, first ice is the best time to go. I've caught them all times of the year though. S.
  6. So in other words, you got your butt kicked LOL Nice speckled lakers! S.
  7. If you can't find them let me know, I can get you a pair at my local store. They had lots of them. S.

  13. I've never seen Gibsons Finest freeze.
  14. I was keeping a buddies rotty/pitbull for a few weeks while he was away for christmas one year. We had a HUGE tray of chocolate baked goods ready for christmas. We left them sitting on the kitchen counter, wrapped in saran wrap. When we got home, the tray was empty, saran wrap barely moved, and the tray still sitting where we left it. Dog was fine. I admit, I was terrified, but he was just fine. Also had a 90lb chocolate lab (ironicallly lol) that ate a full 2lb solid easter bunny. Thought for sure he was done for, but nope, no problem. That dog would eat anthing that fit in his mouth, I swear. S.
  15. I have never looked into it, so I can't say I know anything about it. What I do know is that I can legally fish (freshwater IE: Atlantics) as a non resident, with a resident who is immediate family. I'm not sure that applies to hunting or not, but it may......having immediate family on the island is the key in my situation. I know there are loads of moose there, and not getting one would almost be hard to believe. I know my dad has his picked out well before the season opens LOL S.
  16. The last time I was in NFLD, we saw 17 moose, in a 12km drive. Had 2 cross the river we were fishing within 75 yrds. My dad has to keep a fence around his garden to keep the moose out of it. Its rediculous. If you've never been to the island, go. Its magical. You have a really good chance of getting your moose there. Its just money. You only live once. I've never looked into it, but I would think if you did it right you could do it a lot cheaper than $5000 per person. I know I could, but only because I have immediate family there with guide licences. Driving there saves you a ton of money. Flights to the island are rediculous. Its a long haul, but it would be a lot less logistically to get your gear there, and your moose home as well. Its really not much different than driving to NW ontario for a hunt, except for the ferry ride. S.
  17. I"m keeping my boat ready for Jan. 1st opener here lol
  18. Me too. The swivel is handy to have on your line as well. Btw....i never reel the swivel through my rod tip with a fish on. Ever. If im icefishing i use a shorter leader....about the length of my rod, so 28-36" or so. Thats enough. The swivel will take out the ceramic in the rod tip for sure after a while and you risk the fish taking a run and breaking the leader if the swivel gets caught. S
  19. Use a smaller swivel. Mine reel right through the guides easy. Micro. I generally tie an improved clinch, to improved clinch knot though.....hasn't failed me yet. Simple and effective. S.
  20. The scotty 1050 is what I have, with the portable clamp on mount. It has a counter and works great. I run 10lb cannonballs off it no problem. S.
  21. I have a scotty, and a big john short arm that both work great. I tend to prefer the scotty for ease of deploying the ball, but the big johns are nicer to look at. They both work flawless though. S.
  22. You think it doesnt happen? It does all the time. Cats too. My buddy found his cat in pieces on his front lawn. How do you think his 5 yr old daughter felt when he had to tell her it was eaten by a coyote? I know a few people who have lost dogs too, and one was a king sheppard, so yes, yotes do kill pets and livestock all the time. The farm my wife works at constantly has yotes circling their two dogs. One is a 90lb lab, the other is a 100lb king sheppard. He can't let them out at night without bringing a loaded shot gun and a big light. Where I live, there are a lot of them, and they are a nuisance. I'm not saying what these guys did is right, but maybe that yote was a problem. S.
  23. No need for lead. Steel shot works fine.
  24. I'm all for hunting these dirty birds. I'm not saying there will be hunters out in masses, with boat loads of decoys setting up killing them in piles, but at least if we can shoot them while waterfowling it would help, even just a little. I just want the protection removed from them. I'd shoot every single one that came in range, and if I found a spot that had a few, I"d set up on them just for fun. Do I think hunting them is a good way to control their population? Nope. Not at all. Is it better than nothing? Absolutely. Would I invest in some gear to target them? Hell yeah I would. The bottom line is more needs to be done to control these vermin, but being protected isnt helping. I think this bill is the first step to removing protection, so its better than nothing, and I fully support it, and I hope all anglers and hunters do as well. S.
