  1. Buck lake has good access, and the fishing is good too. Pike, bass, and walleye. Nice sandy beaches as well. The name of the lodge escapes me at the moment, but we launched there no problem. S.
  2. I've been out with Werner a few times as well. Always pounded fish! Him and Big Jim are worth the price of admission, simply for their antics alone quite the characters! You will have a great day, no worries. As long as conditions are decent, and you have a decent captain, they should have no problem finding fish. You may find yourself fishing closer to Toronto, than you are St.Catherines, so be prepared for a long boat ride. I would think you would start in close and work your way out. If you don 't mind catching lakers, I'm sure your captain could put you on them non stop all morning. There are lots of fish out there, and they're relatively easy to catch if you have a decent day! S.
  3. The boat hasn't even been on plane yet. Let him get it up on plane, and then add some in put. I think he got to the point where the boat was just about to break onto plane, and he let off instead. I've never seen an 18ft aluminum boat with trim tabs. I thought Mike added them to his to slow down his trolling speed...... S.
  4. Line-x is costly, but its the best thing going. We got ours done in PTBO. Just google it, it should come up. The name of the place is escaping me right now. S.
  5. I would call this negligence of the parent as well. I will never understand how a 2 year old can be unsupervised long enough to leave the property, get into a pond, and drown. So tragic, and so preventable. S.
  6. I like the red hooks, but not because I think fish can't see them. They don't rust!! Great concept for a guy like me who doesn't take the best care of my gear! S.
  7. This is what I'm thinking too. Don't start changing things, or adding things yet. Run it a few times and get a feel for how it works. They are all different. S.
  8. This is a good route when the 401 is plugged. I don't get west of bowmanville too often though, so its 401-115 for me. S.
  9. Your probably right, but better safe than sorry. Its hard to judge the size of it in the photos, and they look very similar, other than the size. I still wouldn't go near it, unless I was sure! S.
  10. I don't think you even got to the point of trimming up. I think if you'd have kept on the throttle, the bow would have come down, and then you could play with the trim. Sounds like you were almost at the point where you need to start trimming up, but let off the throttle. Again, its hard to explain. Getting someone to take it for a rip, who has more experience in a bigger boat would help. Just hammer it, trimmed all the way down. There is nothing to be afraid of. Once she breaks, and the bow comes down, start trimming up a little at a time until revs come up, with no added throttle. I don't think this is a porpoising issue. The best thing you can do is run the boat more, and get used to it. Every boat handles differently. S.
  11. I would say that's hogweed for sure brian. Stay the hell away from that stuff. Very, very nasty stuff!! Great lookin water there bud. The stream fishing is keeping ya busy. I'm sure it clears the mind as well. Oh ya, happy fathers day! S.
  12. Your right, you shouldn't have to change anything but the trim. I still have a feeling it was those lake erie rollers, but I could be wrong. I'd take it for a run on some smaller water first, just to see.
  13. Yep, thats correct. trip up = bow up, trim down = bow down. If your porposing, trimmed down all the way, you need to lift motor, shim the motor, or put some weight up front. When you say there was a roll on the water....were you on lake O? I have a hard time running wide open in a roll without bouncing all over the place. A chop is a different story, she will cut thru it, but a roll feels like I'm porpoising. I'd take it for another ride on a better day to get a proper feel for it. If you have a livewell up front, fill it up. Are your batteries for the TM up front? S.
  14. Look for a place that sells bricks and you should find sand. I know a few places out this way, but its probably too far. I could fill a truck for free if you were close enough and own a shovel! S.
  15. Well I will tell you something right now. If those same people were born and raised up there, they would care more about the fishery, than they would a few bucks in thier pockets!! Whats going to draw their beloved tourists up there, when there are no fish left? Think about it. This other guy you talk about has a lot more credibility than you, Garnet. How many years have you spent monitoring the lake?? He is also an avid fisherman, and hunter, so don't even go the tree hugger route. Stick to your bass tourneys. The lake can't take the pressure on the walleyes, and they are much more sensitive than dirty old bass. Nobody wants to keep a bass for dinner anyways, so they all go back. Enough walleyes get eaten out of there in a season, let alone a tourney killing another seasons worth in one weekend! If those pics aren't proof enough, I don't know what its going to take to get the point across. Where did all those dead fish go? In the garbage? Maybe your council members filled thier freezers? Its pretty clear to me what went on up there. Maybe contact your friends on council and ask them to read this post. Maybe they have some input on the matters? I'd bet my paycheck they don't say a word!!! S.
  16. Ya, sure did. But NONE of it will ever go back into the fishery!!! Maybe if they donated a few of those dollars into the fishery, I wouldn't be so opposed. The fellow who claims he was there would not Bull. He has been involved with the fishery on sturgeon lake for many, many years. Any member of this site who attended fleming college would know him. He is a stand up guy who knows his fish biology, and cares about the fishery. He has seen the changes in that lake take place in front of his eyes. He isn't just joe blow.....he has a scientific background, and a looooong list of colleagues that support him. Bottom line is, the tourney wasn't a good idea on sturgeon lake. It had an impact on the fishery for sure, and once the investigation comes to a close, we will all find out what "really" happened. Keep in mind, a lot of dead fish will sink, and never be seen again. Even the floaters will be taken by birds and other critters, before they are noticed by people. There is a lot more to think about with a walleye tourney than a bass tourney. Walleye use up to 3X more oygen than a bass, and require much colder water. Comparing this to a bass tourney is apples and oranges. S.
  17. I tried a pair as well. I used them for early season duck hunting, and they lasted me 2 seasons. Keep in mind, I only wore them about 6 times before they started to fall apart and leak. They're OK for light stuff, but if you want something that will last, get something better. With waders, I look for full replacement warranty. They always seem to get a leak, no matter how well made they are. The full replacement for a year is the way to go if you can find it. S.
  18. Bewdley used to be a great place to launch. They have since changed it, and you have to park in a parking lot that is 2.3km from the launch. I don't go there anymore, even though its the closest launch to my house. I launch off the north shore, on wood duck drive. Like said, find a weed edge, and jig, cast, or troll it, and you will get some eyes. S.
  19. No kidding. I had them nearly sink me on lake simcoe a couple years ago. They pretty near ran right over my boat. Water came in over the gunnels. I LOST IT! They didn't even check my safety gear, or ask for my PCOC. They just apologized and carried on. I was PISSED, and asked them for theirs. They didn't like that too much!!! I've never been asked for mine. Kinda like my gun license, and boat registration. Been checked many, many times, but never asked for it. One time had 6 cruisers pull into a field we were hunting, with a swat team on the main road. They still didn't ask for our gun licenses!! The landowner snapped on them for driving all over his field and they left with their tails between their legs!! S.
  20. Great idea Lew. You want to sell your old mesh? I could come get it friday morning. I could use a new one. Mine is out dated, and every hook that gets close to it, gets caught in it! I'm only about a half hour from you. S.
  21. I thought I had already posted that in this thread......I must be losing it I agree. Not a good idea. Too late in the season, water was too warm, and I'd bet my paycheck more than half of the fish weighed in are dead right now. No money from that tourney went back to the fishery, but lined some peoples pockets. Not cool IMO. The resource is worth more. Sturgeon has had a couple tough years, and was just starting to recover. I hope this isn't a set back for the walleye in there. I stopped fishing it all together. Not worth it for eyes anyways. S.
  22. Apples and oranges. The majority of Those trees are planted from a seed, just for that reason. If certain cultures need to release a fish for good luck, throw it in a pool somewhere, not a trib of lake Ontario, or major watershed. They should be fined the max. Just imagine if we did something in their country....you think we'd get off with a $500 fine?? I don't. S.
  23. Ya, they should have been used as an example, and fined out the At least then they would tell their friends to be more careful Just wait, things are going to get a lot worse, before they get better. You have to wonder how much of this is going on, that doesn't get caught?? S.
  24. Take a look here: http://www.teclausa.com/bert/products.html Or here: http://trojantackle.ca/ The only way to go IMO. I would never drill a hole for a single rod holder, when you can mount a length of track, to hold multiple rods, riggers...anything. You only drill holes for the tracks once. S.
  25. Tracks are the way to go. You can run everything out of them. They may seem pricey to start, but they are worth every penny. S.
