  1. Its a manual auger Wayne LOL S.
  2. Yep, your blades have been damaged. Replace them and it will work again. Doont bang the blades, dont cut old holes, dont cut thru junk in the ice, dont push down on auger, and never touch the blades with anything but clean ice. They need to be razor sharp, no nicks or dings, or they wont cut ice. S.
  3. I cant wrap my head around warmer water at depths under the ice. Its not physically possible. Warmest water will rise. Like Burtess said, water is densest at 4C. In winter, the warmest water will be at the bottom. In the winter lake surveys ive done, water was the same temp at all depths. For what Art said, yes, pressure will change at depth, but thats water pressure, not air pressure. The barometer has a huge impact on all living things. If you dont believe it, get a proper barometer and pay attention to the days there is a good bite. I'll bet my pay check its with a rising or falling barometer. Stable high, or low pressure will also have a good bite, but you need 3-4 days of stable pressure. I have a proper barometer here, and I can tell you, when the pressure is moving up or down, the fish are biting almost every time. There are other things that have an impact like wind, and weather etc, but the barometer is a pretty reliable instrument to track fish and game activity. My next thing to watch is the moon. Has a HUGE impact on all creatures. S.
  4. The water under the ice is all the same temp. Once it gets too cold, its ice. Cold temps are usually associated with high pressure, or post front conditions, which generally make for a tough bite. Its not actually the temp, but the weather systems that bring them. S.
  5. If the motor is too low, a 1" high piece of hardwood on the transom will make a world of difference. I have to do that with mine, and it improves handling and performance a lot. I have a longshaft transom with a 40 tiller on a 16 ft widebody starcraft. S.
  6. Doing the work with firewood keeps you in shape. I actually think its good for you. I enjoy it. I'd rather do that than sit on the couch and watch the guy fill my propane tank anyday. That may change when I'm old and grey, but my grandfather cut his own wood until he was 90 years old, so I have a while to go yet. I swear, it kept him healthy, and prolonged his life just by being out side and doing a bit of work at his own pace. Its good for ya! IMO, you can't beat wood heat. I know I'm not saving any money by burning wood, but I enjoy it. Its kind of a lifestyle I guess. Had wood heat my whole life. S.
  7. Those would be perfect for ice fishing. I wonder if I could find them in my area somewhere.....hard to find good ice floats. I should make some. S.
  8. I've burned more wood already than I burned all last winter. Had to bring two more BUSH cords into the wood shed this week. I hope that's enough!! If I cound my hours of cutting/splitting/stacking firewood, I'm probably further behind than guys running oil/propane. S.
  9. I dont have time to input all that data. S.
  10. Sign shops usually sell "sign board" which is essentially marine grade plywood, only cheaper. S.
  11. Yep, specks and splake are hit or miss. You either get them, or you don't. S.
  12. Thats the place. On cty rd 15 in northport. S.
  13. Doesnt yamaha still make small 2 strokes? Ive seen them at hastings marine...I wasnt looking for one, so didnt pay much attention. S.
  14. No bungalows that I know of, but sunset cove has decent cabins and hut rentals for a fair price. Ive never stayed there, but they are in a good location, and the ice is good where they are right now too. They come up on google. S.
  15. Im older than you might think, but I work outdoors all day, and my days off are spent outdoors too, so I get climatized I guess. Its the newfie blood S.
  16. I still use it for specks and splake. Best set up going, and fits in my pocket for the long snowshoe in
  17. I dont even use heat in my flip over clam. Most of the time I just flip it half way as a wind break and thats good enough. S.
  18. Works best under a slip float IMO. There is nothing more sensitive. Best when in a hut, but if you maintain a slip float outside, its a very effective way to catch fish on minnows. A willow gad with a spool of line, hook and sinker will catch just as many fish. S.
  19. My buddy has the same boat with a 90 2 stroke and its a DOG to get on plane. Not bad once it up on top, but takes forever to get up and go. 3 guys and fishing gear, we have to put a guy in the bow to get on plane. Honestly, I dont think the 115 will be much better, but i'd definitly suggest getting it. S.
  20. looks great! The leftovers are even better! s.
  21. I prefer a slip float to a tip up all day long.Just sayin... s.
  22. In most townships, its just as illegal for a cat to run at large as it is a dog. Go do your thing. Nobody is going to enforce you running your dogs. I wouldn't think twice. S.
  23. Hey Art, thanks for the info. Do you make those damascus blades yourself, or just the handles? That would be an interesting hobby, and I'm sure a lot of time invested. They look awesome. S.
  24. Good lookin dog. Sled dogs have a mind of their own, but very smart. I adopted my dog from a member here and he's been a great addition to the household. Had him 5 years now, and I'm lost without him! S.
