  1. beautiful fish, glad to hear its still swimming.
  2. Blue Beacon will be your best bet for boat rentals. There are walleye in the lake, but in 6 years of guiding and fishing it heavily, I have landed 1 and lost 1. Not even worth targetting IMO. Pike fishing can be excellent this time of year. Suspending jerkbaits and spinnerbaits will get you some takers, the fish are moving out deeper now, try in the 7-15 foot range. Green weeds are a bonus!
  3. Our better fish were in 8-14 ft.
  4. They're pretty good with their own brand.
  5. nice job! Glad you got home safe
  6. Really hard to say. I didnt weigh it, and i'm so used to judging bass weight. I remember thinking holy crap this is heavier than I expected. Could be as low as 15, as high as 22 maybe. I would guess around 17 or 18, but again, no clue.
  7. Here's the way I see it. The sensitivity that comes with a higher quality graphite is extremely important when fishing slower baits that you want to have that feel... in this case I'd go with a tournament legend or avid, if you're chucking spinnerbaits, you're going to know when you get bit, regardless what rod you're using... I still wouldnt cheap out on a rod, but the Premier will more than suit your needs.
  8. It seems to be a very hit and miss lake. Some days are awesome, some are brutal. Shallow water fish are very affected by fronts and what not. Worth a trip, but be extremely careful for stumps and rocks. I didnt even start my outboard the first 3 times there.
  9. thanks all, it was a very enjoyable weekend
  10. Well, I finally got some food into me after a long and exhausting weekend. Thank God for Domino's delivery in 20 minutes. Saturday was pike opener in one of my favourite areas, I havent missed it in quite a few years and didnt plan on it this year. So when I got the invitation to a good friend's wedding, I had a dilema. I'll make it work. Saturday morning, Up super early and off we go. On the water by 6:30 and first fish in the net before 7am. Landed a bunch of smaller 2-4 pound fish up shallow and finally made a move out deeper. Right decision! We got into some really good fish and I finally broke my PB with a 43 incher (and tied my fiancee so she cant hold it over me now... hahaha). Got most of our fish on jerkbaits, a few swimming a grub as well. A grub is an awesome "follow up" style bait and I always chuck it after getting a follower that wont commit. It put a few good ones in the net for me today! Off the water by 11am, back home to Barrie, shower, dressed, off to the weddingin Mississauga. Awesome night, maybe too awesome for our 5:00am wake-up. Stayed in Mississuga, up at 6:00, a later than we'd hoped, but earlier than expected haha. Got home, boat hooked up, and back to the water. Fishing was a lot tougher with the sun, but managed 3 pike, 2 small and one decent one. Going to bed now I think. Enjoy

  12. I'm all about the SPRO Frog when I'm throwing them, but I'd still much rather just throw a jig anyways
  13. Believe it or not, until this morning, I had never experienced a steelhead trout opener. I had historically always spent my last Saturday in April chasing brook trout in small watersheds across western ontario. I have always enjoyed it, and liked avoiding the crowds. After LOTS of coaxing, I joined a buddy in the GTA to chase some "upper reach" chrome. We arrived at 4:18am to the river and there was already about 30 cars and a half dozen bonfires going. My buddy started fishing before me, but I made my first drift at 5:38am and had my first fish in my hand at 5:38am, a little smolt. By 5:41 I had a 4 pounder on the bank. By 9am I had gone 6 for 20 (not including the countless smolts and parrs). I lost so many fish to the wood and poor hooksets. Everything before 9am was on small white roe bags. By 9am, with the high skies and GIN clear water, the fishing died. I managed 2 more fish by 10am drifting a scud pattern and called it quits by 10:30am. No big fish today, mostly little 3-4 pound cookie cutter fish. Didnt take many pictures as the action was fast and furious when it came. I wont say where I was, but I can say I spotted many OFNers including Silvio, Kemper and Snagmasteral from across the way.
