Well after a long weekend that has me wanting to never "enjoy" the lake on a long weekend ever again, I got back at 'er on Tuesday with a family on Simcoe. It was nice to not have jetskiers doing circles around us and other boats coming to anchor 10 feet away, we had the lake almost to ourselves! Water was kind of rough in the morning but we got into some good fish. Started up shallow without much luck, a couple little 1 pounders on the dropshot slammer. Moved out to 25 feet and we started catching them again. A lot of smaller (for Simcoe) fish in the 2-2.5 pound range but 2 fish in the 4.5-5 pound range. Eve got a bonus largie, small, but it counts! Good day out and EXTREMELY well behaved kids! Wednesday I fished a small 16 boat tourney on Scugog with a good friend. Neither of us had ever fished the lake before, funny since I spent 4 years at Fleming College in Lindsay, I spent that time fishing Sturgeon or towing elsewhere. We figured we would just go fishing and we'd stumble upon them. We had a small limit early, but the lake was tough and NOT my style of fishing LOL. Finally in the last hour we figured something out and put our 4 biggest in the boat. We placed 2nd but I'm not exactly itching to get back there! Even had a nice musky to boot! Don't get many of them in "my waters".

Depending on the series and the lake, sometimes they're released at the docks, sometime they're taken out to the main lake and dropped. Obvious locations may be void of "keeper fish" but they'll always be somewhere else. There are so many fish out there, you just have to find them.

There are likely a lot fewer anglers, but the education of those anglers is much higher and the internet definitely has a lot to do with "secret" spots being given away. If I said publicly that I was smashing whitefish on Long Shoal, I guarantee I'd see 30 boats there this weekend, its the way she goes.

G-Pool has been fishing tough this year, the tournament weights are way down. I won an 18 boat tourney there today with 14.80 lbs. That weight shouldnt be winning tourneys out there!

I made a seperate post on that, we came 2nd with like 13lbs, winners had just over 16. It was a tough bite for sure, our best bite was between 1am-2am

Simcoe is hardly better than Couch when the wind gets up. You're fine on both lakes as long as the wind is 10k or less, when it gets higher than that a 12 foot tinny is not a nice place to be. Any smaller lake in the area holds fish... sparrow lake, bass lake, little lake, lake muskoka, kashe lake, six mile lake, gloucester pool, severn river, lake eugenia, lake scugog, balsam lake, cooks bay all are decent options

Legend XCalibur 179 with a 75HP Mercury 4 Stroke. She's no speed demon but handles Simcoe's rollers better than any bass boat I've had out there.

IMO Power Pro is far and away the best braid out there, but I have heard nothing but good things about Spider Thread ... not to be confused with Spider Wire. I had nothing but issues with both SpiderWire and Fireline. I'll stick with what works and use Power Pro til death do us part.

I had the day off but decided to relax, watch a whole season of trailer park boys and not fish. By 2:00pm when I finished Season 5, I decided it was too nice of a day. Tidied up around the house so as not to be murdered in my sleep, then picked up my dad and we were off to the lake in search of some big smallies! We made a long run to my spot from last week and got into a bunch of fish in the 2-3 pound range. Fun, but not what we were after. Swamped the front of the boat twice heading across the lake to another good zone, the wind picked up pretty good. Glad we did! Pulled up to my waypoint in 30 feet of water and first cast with a dropshot, my bait was in the water maybe 3 seconds and it bolted sideways with a 4 pounder on the other end of it. Tangled with about 15 more in the 3.5-5 pound range even after the wind died down and the sun started to go down the fish were biting good. Friday night the Barrie Bassmasters had our first and hopefully annual Night Tournament on Lake Couchiching. We fished from 8pm to 2am Having never fished at night before with the exception of twice for walleye about 6 years ago, I had no idea what to expect and didnt bother to pre-fish for a small fun tournament. It was a random draw tournament and I got drawn with my dad which was cool. I decided to spend my hour and a half of light fishing for a big largemouth bite in the heavy cover. That didnt pan out for us. So we went to fish a bunch of feeding flats that I like in the late afternoon and early evenings. We managed 6 bites all night and landed 5 of them. We got 2 fish on jitterbugs and 3 on straight black senkos. We weighed 13 pounds and placed 2nd. 1st place had just over 16lbs and they said they caught all of them in a 20 minute span in one location the size of their boat on black tubes. I had a lot of fun and I really hope to do it again, heck maybe I'll head out tonight!

It's funny that this thread turns into an argument about the "lack of originality" of my tattoo. The whole concept of a jumping bass with an angler silhouette is something I'd always wanted, and when I saw that original it was almost to a T of what I had imagined. Take a peak at it and it is very different, I've gone with a very japanese style water design, added the Barrie Spirit Catcher to the backdrop which is representative of my hometown that I love and the sunset backdrop when complete will be very different. It is original to me and I can assure you I spent my "hard earned money" on exactly what I wanted.

What til its done... the base is similar, the tattoo when complete will be very different

I run 15 lbs power pro with a 15foot leader of 10lbs XPS fluorocarbon line. Hasnt let me down. Vanish on the other hand, let me down many times!

Funny I did pop a couple liqui-gels before I went. The 6 hours of work will be over 2 sittings, so not too bad
