Why do Fishing shows promote this ?
steverowbotham replied to AverageJoeFishing's topic in General Discussion
If you left a jig in its mouth, by accident or not, and it ate again a week later for you to discover this horrendous issue, then what does that tell you? It ate again.... I would never leave a hook in a fish's mouth if there was another option, but sometimes you need to. Ripping it out of their throat is going to do worse things to it, I can guarantee that. I fish 15-20 tournaments a season usually and I cant tell you the number of jigheads I have left in a fish's mouth and had them spit it out in the livewell. If its bleeding badly, pour some 7UP down its throat, it'll stop bleeding pretty quick and give it time to recover. I swear it works. Point is that it happens and sometimes the fish lives, sometimes it might not. But I can tell you a fish has a better chance of living if I release it than if it ends up in my freezer. -
Joey was also one half of the CSFL Western Team of the Year this season... well deserved!

Dont remember exact weights, we only had around 13lbs and winners were under 15. Not many big fish to come by but lots of scrappy 2-2.5's and some lakers to boot

congrats to MArk and Joey! HUGE bag!! In all the time I've spent on the lake, I've never beat 29 lbs... That is a huge accomplishment!

Not much of a report here as there's a lot to cover... Been taking some time off to look for full time work as the guiding thing has slowed significantly since labour day. Had a few guides in the past few weeks and the fishing has been steady. It's not on fire anymore, but we're managing decent numbers of good fish still. Mostly dragging tubes and dropshots in the 25-40 foot range now. Fished another tournament on Georgian Bay last Saturday with a good friend Brian Gardy and we managed to take another 2nd place finish... I forget who pointed out my apparent fondness of the 2nd place this year but its becoming more and more apparent. I had our club classic at Lake of Bays on Thanksgiving Saturday. Big fish were hard to come by but we got lots of fish throwing topwaters which is fun this time of year and we placed 3rd. I'll attach a bunch of fish porn to make up for the lack of report. I'll offer half price charters to the forum members starting Oct 30 through to the end of season.... Good fishin!

Smallie Report and a surprise *PICS*

Ya wierd, it does that sometimes haha -
Well last week I spent a day pre-fishing for a tournament on Balsam Lake, but the pre-fish didnt go very well, and I decided to fish the 15th annual Snowflake event on Georgian Bay. Ended up weighing 21.36lbs on Day 1 and 20.22lbs on Day 2 and placed 2nd overall! Not bad being that I've never been on the bay for bass! Yesterday, I met up with one of my best friends from college who's down visiting from the Yukon. We took the afternoon to fish Lake Simcoe for some smallies. It wasnt a spectacular bite, but we managed to tangle with about 10 nice smallies, and even got a surprise walleye fishing the deeper water! Great way to spend the day with an old friend!

Late September bassin and a big win!
steverowbotham replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
You're right, 200 feet is an acceptable distance. But as I wrote, he stopped the engine about 200 feet away and started fishing his way TOWARDS us, almost within casting distance and its a big area. We used the electric to work around the area and they would follow. Its just the situation thats frustrating. They had zero intention on fishing that area but saw us catch a fish and proceeded to then try and crowd us off the spot. It's not against any rule, its just rude. That being said, thanks everyone for the positive comments. -

Hey Ian, launching in Baysville on October 9. Weigh-in at 3pm I do believe. Although with daylight diminishing, they may change it to 730-330 -
Thanks everyone. We had a great day out there, lost a couple small fish in the morning but other than those we fished a perfect day and landed a lot of quality fish. The win clinched me another Angler of the Year title for our club, which is always exciting. Just posted the report.

I've been keeping busy with the bass fishing, as much as possible at least with the crazy wind we had last week. I had Kwan and his mother out last week on Couchiching and the bite was pretty tough, fish were shy but we coaxed a bunch into biting and lost a bunch to boot. Not a bad day overall and they had a few smaller one for the steamer. Sunday we had our clubs final tournament of the year and I got drawn to fish with my dad. Good choice of lake for it too. We were on beautiful Lake Simcoe, and a couple of my fall spots have been hot. With the calm weather we made a long run to a favourite spot and dropped the electric. As I was making my first cast, dad says FISH ON! A modest 3.5 pounder and a good way to start. We landed at least 15 more in the next hour. Crazy pace and good fish! Around 8:30am the wind switched East and the bite died. Ran to a new area and hooked a 5 pounder on my 3rd cast. A passing boat slowed down, watched and took off. We continued fishing the area, sticking the odd one here and there, when all of a sudden the same boat comes flying towards us and stops about 200 feet away and starts fishing his way towards us. Come on! I know I dont own the water, but have some respect. It's just etiquette. Anywhoo, we had a great day out there and weighed in at 37.00lbs for 8 fish. In our club, each angler keeps their biggest 4. Individual weights go to Angler of the Year scoring and total team weight takes the cash prize. I weighed 19.65 and dad had 17.35lbs With the win I clinched the Angler of the Year title for the Barrie Bassmasters. Club Classic will be in 2 weeks on Lake of Bays... hopefully I can get some revenge on those acrobati smallies that killed me this summer. Dad's 17.35lbs 4 fish bag my 19.65lbs 4 fish bag Today I had the task of finding some more piggies for an old co-worker. Tricky start but I found them in a different area and we were able to land about a dozen. Pretty tough bite overall though. So long for now, good fishin.

they do spawn in the spring, but eggs begin development much before that.

yea pretty dissapointing card all together. Stephens / Guillard was still entertaining but could have been WAY better Serra / Lytle was pretty awesome Dunham / Sherk again, was pretty awesome and Dunham got robbed big time Nogueira / Bader was dissappointing, judges made the right call with Bader Mir / Cro Cop was terrible. I miss the old Mirko!
