I'm with ya on that, Bill...hence their nickname "Cabbage Dragons". As temps get colder and the weeds die on Shield lakes, don't over look offshore rock piles and points that stick out into the deep basins. Musky will station themselves on these spots to intercept migrating forage fish. The colder it gets, the bigger and slower you want to get..

I was about to suggest he invest in some wading booties….not so much now.

Hi all, Been having a blast with the crappie this year here on Wabigoon lake. The FFS (Active Target) really helps narrow down which spot to sit on and its pretty fun and informative to watch fish reactions and behaviours in real time. Nothing fancy, jig and minnow on light gear and line.

Wow…you were really paying attention! Cool! Yeah, anything bright works good in the stained water, however I did really well with black jigs this year, mind you the bite was so aggressive some days you would probably catch them with a Smokey tied to some anchor rope.

Not much shore fishing opportunities in Cancun itself. If you have a rental car, the best DIY option would be to drive south about 90 minutes, past Tulum, until you come to a bridge at Boca Paila. That time of year, there is good fishing for juvenile Tarpon (10 to 30lbs), Bonefish, Snook and the occasional Permit. Fish both on the lagoon and the flats on the beach side. Keep an eye out for the croc's when wading....I've seen them up to 12 ft long. If you want a great day out, get in touch with Miguel Encalada at Fin Chasers..him and his son are great people and guides. They fish Isla Blanca which is about 45 minutes north of the Cancun hotel zone. They will pick you up in the morning at your hotel for a day of fishing in a panga (small outbord skiff). In January, it will be mostly juvie Tarpon and Snook. I've been out with them 3 different times, and it's always been a great fish filled day. Even small Tarpon are a blast...think of a 20lb Smallmouth...the acrobatics are insane..The Snook are like a Largemouth on speed. I like a fly rod, but spinning tackle is fun too..The fishing is in the channels and cuts of the mangroves...the water is never more than 6 ft deep and it's always dead calm. AND he gave me a package of moose tenderloin!!!!! Plus a couple packages of ground moose. Apparently his wife does not care for wild game and he doesn't cook it for himself. This package of backstrap (loin!) had indeed been in his freezer almost a year, but had been wrapped in saran wrap and then butcher paper. There was no freezer burn, thankfully - but the saran wrap saved it of course.

You'll likely have to look a bit deeper for the green weed. I'm a fan of cabbage... find the cabbage, find the muskie.

in concept, i guess it could work...but honestly, what do i serve to gain by replacing my existing stainless prop? My boat is already fast, probably too fast when im alone in it, I guess some fuel efficiency? Man thats a lot of efficiency to make up for the difference in cost

usually deeper healthier weed Coontail, cabbage typically holds up much better than milfoil as it gets later.

Agreed. They are so much more colorful and green compared to the LSC fish which seem to be much more pale (but are bigger)

Noticed that the weeds are looking pretty tired... lots dying off now in pigeon. Still some nice green stuff but I did not see a nice big bed of greenery

It's hardly new ... it's actually been around since 2012. I've driven various boats with Sharrow props multiple times over the years. Yes, its works well. And yes, it's very, very expensive. Especially when you hit a rock. Worth it? How much do you spend in fuel every year? For 99% of Canadian fishermen, it would be very tough to justify.

I can not get over your craftsmanship Spiel, I wish I had your talent and know how. You never mentioned when dinner was going to be ready. I can barely remember the last time I had a big scoff of Walleye, it and Halibut being my favorite.

So I was supposed to be at my hunt camp with a buddy for a couple days with one overnight, doing some camp work before deer season. BUT!!! I have a rotten cold, so yesterday after we did pretty much a full day's work he got out of Dodge to avoid Typhoid Mary. In the meantime, he had given me a package of moose backstraps, which I had thawed for last night's supper that did not happen. Gee heck, I had to cook them tonight and he did not get any. 😉 So I hit them with a shot of soya sauce and some seasonings, and pan-fried them to rare, then fried a couple free range eggs in the pan juices. (I gathered those eggs this afternoon at my son's farm) And some corn on the cob, picked fresh this morning just north of me. AWESOME!

I just started feeding these guys every morning, six of them, a week ago. Should have been doing it years ago, too late smart. I've been feeding them dog kibbles that Matty doesn't like and some beef wieners that I don't like. I expect in the next couple days or so I will have at least two of them eating out of my hand, came pretty close this morning. Magpies are in fact super intelligent. Same as crows, they recognize faces and will quite often bring gifts to those that feed and look after them, it may be a pine needle or a leaf or something shinny they find and they will go out of their way in search for the right item that they are happy with to do so, pretty special I think.

Nice fish. My favourite body of water in the Province....especially the NE end up by Chamberlain Narrows. We often don't see another boat all day. There's a 60 up there that I've locked eyes with on a few occasions. She's a real tease..definitely has a thing for gold and black Medusa's, just won't commit. My buddy jokes that one of these days we should just put a foot and half long live sucker on a quick strike rig...but I just can't bring myself to do that..
