  1. I really appreciate all the replies! Dan, over the years you have ALWAYS provided knowledgable, sensible advice, boy do I wish you were closer 😊. There is a shop here in Lindsay, John's Quality Auto; they have a wonderful reputation for being honest and thurough, I think I will be taking all my future work to them. Thanks again😊

  2. The hut will be there for you and your son to use; as if it were yours. It’s a waist for it to sit empty; so I’d be happy to share with you guys. Let’s just hope we get enough cold weather to freeze the lady up solid? Dan.

  3. Just read John’s google reviews. Sounds like a place worth trying? If you ever need a mechanic’s ear to chew on, over a vehicle’s issue, please feel free to call. (Will PM #) With contra, you may not be going South this winter? If so and Lake Simcoe/weather cooperates; I’ll get you a key to my fish hut. We could work out details, when time comes. Cost to you would be helping me with hut location. LOL Dan

  4. The moisture gets in through the reservoir/fill cap vent hole. We here at the shop try and follow the manufacturers maintenance schedule; not the businesses sales manager's. When something in the maintenance schedule comes up, we let the customer know, we explain why and then stand back and let them decide; no pressure sales. Cliff I just had a look through your car's schedule for the 48K and there no (Not that I saw) mention of a brake fluid change/flush? Just check level and condition. So I guess if it looks clean leave it; if dirty change as required. I didn't look through all of the different 8000Klm intervals; but the one's I did, again doesn't suggest replacing the fluid? The one thing I did notice (had to laugh at Toyota's paranoia),was to check & adjust the driver's floor mat. LOL Here's something to think about. Unless Toyota are doing these servicing's at no charge to you; they cannot void the warrantee, if you take your vehicle elsewhere for these servicing's. As long as you have it documented that the service was done on time and the recommended or its equivalent materials are used. Dan.

  5. With my son heading to the west shores,I decided I would fish with a couple of close buddy's. We met on the river bank at the same time. Had some good conversations . Amazing what we have in common, and somethings we debate. Myself,is just a sitter and listens mostly. Gets real excited when he hears the fish jumping. On the other hand, I, is one that likes to debate everything. Like ,should we have walked all this way when there are other spots that we can park at and a very short walk ? Myself pipes up and says, what are you talking about ? Listen to all the fish jumping around. Of course, me, being the just fish and shut up and enjoy the things nature had given us guy says , were here now and we are not climbing back up that hill. Both myself and I ,were very thankful me brought the rope. All three of us have bad knees and the rope will sure makes things easy getting back up that 40ft hill . Me,myself and I, got our gear ready. Still using that mojo rod from John Francis .Coffee and eggs for the morning breakfast on the ready. Once we could see our float, ( seems we all have bad eyes ) we began fishing. Didn't take long before our float went down, set the hook and we are all excited. Fish was landed. Great net job by myself, and of course,I, tried to take all the credit. We ended up going 1-6 in the few hours we were there. Fun time with a couple of close buddy's.

  9. Good point! I launch at some sketchy spots. We generally don't worry about getting the boat "just so" on the trailer. Instead...haul it out as is, and then with the buddy I was fishing with just give er a little nudge to centre. With a 20 foot boat (and corresponding larger motor!) you won't be doing any of that.

  10. If you have the appropriate tow vehicle.. go big or go home! My 2150 Baron is now, unbelievably, 13 years old. Doesn't leak a drop, still looks close to new. Can be a lot of boat for one guy to put on a trailer at a crappy launch though. Good launch easy pezzy.. Agreed value theft and liability is gonna cost you a grand a year.. Trolling 5/6MPH on the 275 burns about 0.6USGPH or 2.4 litres/hour and is much nicer than listening to the kicker scream to achieve Musky troll speed. So a 10 hour ''tour" and run in/out on GBay only uses about 30 or 35 litres. Now take that heavy boat for a long high power cruise and it can get expensive. WOT is 32USGPH/120 litresPH. Cruising the boat at it's sweet spot, around 32 MPH and 4200 RPM burns about 11USGPH/44litresPH.

  12. oh wow new boat purchase! fun. As a guy who only has a 16'8" I would say 18'10" is plenty of boat especially for a guy who fishes alone regularly. I guess if you are already looking at boats that big, storage (ie in your garage) and vehicle to tow are not concerns of yours

  13. Another 135km today. I never put that on the FZ07 in a month! The Mrs and I were out for just about 3 hours today and if the weather is decent tomorrow the goal is to do more. Loving this ride just as much as I love fishing! PS, Mr B (Brian) if I ever get a camera mount I will send you drift footage. Done it a few times now and NOT on purpost 95% of the time. The rear got out and spun at 70kph bumping up to 100kph to make a move and I was far from 100% on the gas. Even the Mrs who's been to race school said she's not sure if she can out run me.

  14. optima has recently changed who manufactures their batteries. Id honestly suggest Canadian tire AGM personally! Made by east pen deka...best warranty in the game and really competitive pricing. You can usually find them on sale too and save yourself the 15% tax.

  16. Mind you recalls and policies must be done at the dealership. but hey if they’re paying that’s OK. LOL

  17. You don’t have to actually go to the dealership to check for policies or recalls. Call whatever dealership, give them you VIN # and mileage. Legally they must tell you if there is anything outstanding on your vehicle. Sometimes government policies do work for us. LOL Dan.

  18. Well, I read the service manual from front to back, I went on the Toyota web site, and to be honest I don't know what to think. One spot in the service manual said 96,000 km, another spot in the same book shows it at 48,000 km ( this is a service book provided by the dealership). I think the thing that upset me most was that I was blindsided by the whole thing, I have never been told this was necessary prior to this and when i show up at the dealership all of a sudden "oh but wait, theres more"! The brake service I do understand, that was an extra $200.00 to clean and lubricate the calipers etc.. the pads, rotors and everything were fine, 90% of my driving is highway. Anyway, I do want to maintain my vehicle, I intend to keep it for a few years so I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet, I just get the feeling that I'm being taken.

  19. Thanks that is much appreciated. By the way I'm told that the Whirlpool parking lot is now a pay for parking lot like the lot at the Glen so take some change or a credit card. The Glen parking is $10 so I'm betting that's the same at the Whirlpool.
