Big Cliff Posted September 18, 2021 Report Posted September 18, 2021 I have a guy in California that wants to buy my motor coach and is insisting on paying for it by PayPal. I am worried that it could be some sort of a scam and that once he takes delivery he could claim it wasn't as advertisied or something. Any thoughts?
Fisherman Posted September 18, 2021 Report Posted September 18, 2021 If he's insisting and not open to other foolproof methods, I see a red flag fluttering in the breeze.

Ya, that's sort of my feeling but I don't have any experience with getting payments through PayPal
Fisherman Posted September 18, 2021 Report Posted September 18, 2021 Don't know if you are aware and I don't know the amount but it goes by a percentage. When completing a transaction through PayPal, the seller must pay a PayPal fee. The buyer isn't forced to pay any fee. The fee the seller pays is calculated for each transaction and is represented as a percentage of the total transaction plus 30 cents.
woodenboater Posted September 18, 2021 Report Posted September 18, 2021 (edited) I'd run from this sale if it were me. they can send certified cheque maybe ? not sure how safe that is though. as noted, paypal for a sale this big is a red flag. I use paypal for lots of transactions but not for something this huge, and usually with people I have references for. cdns get email interac transfers. good luck and also what fisherman said....seller pays fees which can be substantial Edited September 18, 2021 by woodenboater
OhioFisherman Posted September 18, 2021 Report Posted September 18, 2021 If you buy something with PayPal and don't get what you paid for they step in and? or? refund your money. I might wonder about sending a check to Ontario from California for a big purchase from a private seller? Not sure what to tell you, both parties need protection?

Spiel Posted September 19, 2021 Report Posted September 19, 2021 I deal with Paypal frequently Cliff but I would run away from this transaction immediately. 1
Terry Posted September 19, 2021 Report Posted September 19, 2021 You didn’t give much detail. But I get concerned about any site unseen deal. there is no safe way to do sales like this lots of fake certified check and cashiers check scams and fake bills too but I would walk away from this one 1
ketchenany Posted September 19, 2021 Report Posted September 19, 2021 i have no experience in this PayPal crap and will never use it. i completed my first Kijjiji purchase last week i was nervous but it worked out the seller was very honest. But then a simple garage door fix did not go well, a few years back. put in parts I did not need and demanded payment!!!! Keep safe and aware, a lot of people are not trustworthy. A
Big Cliff Posted September 19, 2021 Author Report Posted September 19, 2021 Thanks for the replies, I think I am going to pass on this offer, it just doesn't feel right. 4
