BillM Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Apparently not far enough Still lots of light pollution (I was just south of Parry Sound).. IMG_6438-2 by billmarz, on Flickr
Whopper Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Well done Bill A couple years back we were taking pics about the same time on the same subject matter only we were a couple hundreds miles apart but both were very similar
Rodbender Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Nice one Bill it's amazing how far North the light pollution is now
misfish Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Nice pic Bill. Now for the stupid question. What do you mean by light pollution ?
Rodbender Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) The bright glow in the bottom left of the pic from a city or town street lights etc try taking that pic here or where your at Brian it's all just a glow might get a star or two but nothing like that Edited August 28, 2015 by Rodbender

BillM Posted September 4, 2015 Author Report Posted September 4, 2015 whicked picture Bill, you should take one next time you are up in the winter, i always find the sky is exponentially darker mid jan- feb Winter is great, but no Milky Way.. It's only visible from July > Sept.
AKRISONER Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 aha! putting the pieces together, hmm the winter sky does seem so much darker and maybe this is why. Ive seen the sky one evening so clear and dark that the stars began to feel like a cieling, it was actually astonishing, the entire sky gave the feeling of roundness with consistent brightness in the stars right down to the horizon line. Awesome photo none the less.
Dave Bailey Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) Beautiful picture. Instead of going that far north, stop at the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky reserve, west of Gravenhurst: http://rasc.ca/torrance-barrens-dark-sky-preserve Edited September 11, 2015 by Dave Bailey
BillM Posted September 11, 2015 Author Report Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) Barrens is great for star gazing but not so much for long exposures (Still way too much light pollution).. I've been there a few times. My next mini trip will be up to Agawa Bay on Lake Superior. Edited September 11, 2015 by BillM
spincast Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Nice shot - not as outstanding as the one you got up on Nipigon ( I really likes that one), but still great detail given the circumstances - and just s little more convenient.

I'm kicking myself for missing my Nipigon trip this year. One of the best places to take photographs!
Rodbender Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) What lens did you use for that I'm looking Tokina 11-16 wide angle for my camera Edited September 15, 2015 by Rodbender
