DRIFTER_016 Posted June 12, 2019 Author Report Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) Took the afternoon off work and went to the cabin. Got the dock in. Needs work, the ice did some damage. ? Forgot to mention. Water temps were between 37F and 42F. Edited June 12, 2019 by DRIFTER_016
DRIFTER_016 Posted June 23, 2019 Author Report Posted June 23, 2019 3 day weekend!!!! Got a little bit done but not as much as hoped I would. Seems I was really tired. Got to the cabin after work and after lugging gear up the hill I chilled and watched a movie. Went to bed right after at 8:30-9:00 and didn't wake until 10:00AM the next morning still tired. Slept most of the day on the couch. Got up at 6:00PM for dinner and a movie. Went to bed at 9:00 and woke at 9:00 the next morning. Finally felt refreshed. Got a few of the ceiling joists installed properly finally. Still a bunch to go. Also got some of the electrical rough in done.
Old Ironmaker Posted June 24, 2019 Report Posted June 24, 2019 Check your blood sugar level. My brother told me the other day he felt the same. He checked and it was 3.0, not good for anyone not on Diabetes meds, not good for anyone actually. When I was diagnosed with Type 2 in 97' I was over 50 lbs. heavier. You have to care of yourself in order to enjoy your magnificent 3ork. When was the last time you have seen an 80 year old carrying an extra 60lbs? Not often I bet.
akaShag Posted June 24, 2019 Report Posted June 24, 2019 Hey Dave, all work and no play, etc etc............ How are the bugs? Doug
DRIFTER_016 Posted June 24, 2019 Author Report Posted June 24, 2019 4 hours ago, akaShag said: How are the bugs? Doug Very bad this year as it's been quite cool so they have not burned off yet. Skitters were brutal when I got to the cabin on Thursday evening. The blackflies, deer flies and horse flies haven't even started yet. Except down at the boat launch. The horse flies were abundant there.
akaShag Posted June 24, 2019 Report Posted June 24, 2019 Eastern Ontario has had about ten feet of rain this spring, and there is standing water everywhere. In the woods, the mosquitoes will just about carry you away. I look like the goalie for a dart team........... Doug 1
cisco Posted June 25, 2019 Report Posted June 25, 2019 May sound crazy but folks around here seem tired and quieter than normal. My guess is the 'ying/yang' thing where all the euphoria over the Raptors win is now being counterbalanced with a bit of a 'low'.
DRIFTER_016 Posted July 1, 2019 Author Report Posted July 1, 2019 Got some more electrical in and installed some insulation this weekend. Left early on this holiday Monday due to less than stellar weather. T'was rainin' and gusting up to 50 MPH. For some reason the parking lot at the ramp was empty.

akaShag Posted July 1, 2019 Report Posted July 1, 2019 wind gusting to 50 mph = no bugs! Speaking of which, funny thing, I was up at my camp today doing some work and was hardly bothered by bugs at all, just a few deer flies. Guess the bugs took the holiday off..........

DRIFTER_016 Posted July 16, 2019 Author Report Posted July 16, 2019 Been at the cabin since Saturday and don't have to go back to work until August 19th. For the first time in three summers I've actually gone fishing!!! Felt good and I managed to go 2 for 4 on Saturday and 6 for 7 yesterday after dinner. No big ones, just nice eating sized lakers. So here's a sunset pic!!! ?? 1

AKRISONER Posted July 16, 2019 Report Posted July 16, 2019 man, seeing your dock damaged just has me thinking "i know that feel bro" holy crap, ive spent more time this year in the lake fixing docks, marine rail systems etc than any person should ever have to. Thats just the docks, never mind the boat house which is also now falling over ?
DRIFTER_016 Posted July 19, 2019 Author Report Posted July 19, 2019 Got some work done!!! ? Working on finally getting the ceiling joists all finished up. Lots still to go but it can wait. Lots of electrical rough in and insulation work. Kitchen wall. Even started the plumbing rough in. Did I mention electrical? ?

Always his work is neater than the Pro's. I've set up this thread so my wife can't see it. Akri you are right, the lakeshore of Erie and other Great Lakes was a mess this spring. The shoreline erosion is big news everywhere. Large chunks of ice the size of VW's bent super duty steel stairways and railings on breakwalls 15 feet above the new lake level. The shoreline restoration contractors out here are booked for the next 2 years. A great profession for some younger folks to get into. If lake levels stay as is, and the scientists say it wont be changing for the foreseeable future actually some say for a generation, shoreline restoration and protection will last someone enough work for a lifetime. Cost me over 5 grand last summer to repair and bolster our breakwall, and I got a deal because I pulled both permits. A $1500.00 savings.
DRIFTER_016 Posted July 22, 2019 Author Report Posted July 22, 2019 Didn't get much done today. Way to hot for this guy. Way too smoky as well. Pulled some more wire and put a bit more insulation in. Don't like installing it in hot weather, way more itchier when you are sweating.
DRIFTER_016 Posted July 28, 2019 Author Report Posted July 28, 2019 Got a bunch of stuff done over the last week. First section of insulation in the ceiling done. Got the first bunch of soffit boards on the West side installed. And a bunch more ready to go. Got the grout done on my hearth finally. And the stove in place. Need to finish with the West side exterior before I can get the chimney installed though. Master bedroom wiring and insulation is done. Lower section of the front wall electrical and insulation done. Did I mention wiring? 1
DRIFTER_016 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Report Posted July 29, 2019 Got the West end soffit completed on the main part of the roof today. Now I can put the fascia on and install my SAT dishes. Then finish the siding and trim work before disassembling all that scaffolding and moving it again.
DRIFTER_016 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Report Posted July 31, 2019 Yesterday was a resupply day so no work. Did get out fishing for a bit after dinner though. Fish were super aggressive. Lost more than I landed but it was fun. Today was a rain day so I slept in and did inside work. Roughed in the closet in my bedroom. Got the ceiling light wired in. It's a recessed housing that runs a low voltage mr16 bulb. I bypass the 110 to 12 volt transformer and go direct and hook to 12 volt DC system. It's currently running off one of my flasher batteries. I also got the lighting in the closet temporarily hooked up. They run of 5 volts DC through a DC to DC converter off the 12 volt system. Right now they are running off the battery that came in the packaging to demonstrate the light. There was a little push button on the package. Outdoor work tomorrow.
DRIFTER_016 Posted August 2, 2019 Author Report Posted August 2, 2019 Got the West side fascia and the SAT dishes installed. Even had time for a little fishing after dinner. It was a nice night so of course the fishing was slow. Went 3 for 5 with a couple of knockoffs. Had more hits last night when it was blowin' and rocking out there. ?
