FloatnFly Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Anyone know where I can pick up some free skids in decent shape? going to repurpose the wood from them
wormdunker Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Our local building supply has them for free during the summer months.
moose Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 check kijji or go behind any factories or industrial units
hirk Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 My work in Scarborough has some you can have
Garnet Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 The pallet factory in Bowmanville puts out scrap wood that includes pallets sometimes. East of Liberty on baseline.
DanD Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 If you're thinking of picking up pallets from any of the places mentioned; make sure you get permission to take them. The one store I share the building with, has had a number of people charged with theft and trespassing, while they were trying to take pallets and other items; that the store owner keeps outside behind the building. The private security company that patrols our area usually catches them midnight shopping. Dan.
jedimaster Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 How many are you looking for? I get them free here but I am in BC. We have a warehouse in woodbridge that would also likely have HT pallets for free. We use them a few times and when a piece cracks we have to pay to dispose of them. I use the for kindling and building some outdoor type stuff.
FloatnFly Posted January 14, 2015 Author Report Posted January 14, 2015 I think i would only need around 4 or 5, this is what im looking to build http://www.instructables.com/id/Lift-top-Pallet-Coffee-Table-with-Landing-Gear/?ALLSTEPS

FloatnFly Posted January 14, 2015 Author Report Posted January 14, 2015 My work in Scarborough has some you can have I wouldn't be able to pick them from Scarborough until Sunday or Monday
hirk Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 It would need to be mon.-fri. Before 4:30. Text me 1st before you leave. 905-440-0773 How many you want?
bare foot wader Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 that's a cool coffee table, thanks for posting that link
lakerguy Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 If you can get them from a brick company, they would be hard wood skids then just a thought
DanD Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 of course, i emailed a couple local places early this morning, just waiting to hear back from them Sorry I didn't mean that you wouldn't ask first; it's just some people think these skids are junk, going to the landfill. Some skids have deposits on them that the supplier that sent whatever product on these skids wants them back. My post was meant as a heads up; so you or anyone else didn't get in trouble for such a small thing. Dan.
wdodgetruck Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 By the look of the blocks , you should try to find a U S chep pallet . If you could find 1/2 pallets they might be the way to go.

FloatnFly Posted January 14, 2015 Author Report Posted January 14, 2015 that's a cool coffee table, thanks for posting that link no problem, im going to build it with out the 'landing gear' as they call it, i don't need it to roll around
grizzlybri Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 My work has allot of scrap skids, but looking at what you want to build i can't see them being any use to you. Great looking table however
wdodgetruck Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 I think that you will need pallets like this .
Fisherman Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) Small point, some of them are treated, probably not good for indoor use. http://www.1001pallets.com/pallet-safety/ Edited January 16, 2015 by Fisherman
FloatnFly Posted January 16, 2015 Author Report Posted January 16, 2015 I think that you will need pallets like this . its not the shape of the pallet or size, you have to disassemble them, its more the distressed wood look that your after, and since pallets are a little roughed up, it makes them really nice for making rustic furniture
