FloatnFly Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 I was always taught that in farming their are 3 types of animal; a]Vermin, b]work animals, and c]livestock. If group b fails to earn its place it joins group a or c lol we have a customer that names their cows before sending them to market
OhioFisherman Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 I was in the Tampa Florida area for about 5 weeks in 2009, the news there had a couple of reports of horses being slaughtered in the fields for their meat. The news claimed it could be sold for 40 bucks a pound, dudes really must not like beef?
EC1 Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 I've had 2 experiences where I've came across horse meat, once in Japan when I was 9 and I freaked out about eating a "friendly" animal, and once in a French restaurant in Chinatown. My second experience with it was an absolute amazing one (Horse tartar)! I don't think they are serving that lately, so I'll be looking for my own horse meat in the future.
solopaddler Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Have never tried horse, but it wouldn't faze me. When I lived in the Philippines I ate dog more than once and it was delicious. Many years back on one of my long solo expeditions in the far north I ate a chubby little groundhog. At the time it was maybe the best thing I'd ever eaten in my life. Best beware if you ever survive a plane crash with me high in the Andes.
Rod Caster Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Is that why you bring meaty-Bill along with you on your middle-of-nowhere trips? ....Camera-man??? Suuuuuure

SirCranksalot Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Best beware if you ever survive a plane crash with me high in the Andes. The advice I've gotten is that if you go on 1 of those really adventurous trips you should always take a vegetarian with you. In a real pinch you'd eat them first!!

SirCranksalot Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Vegans taste like chicken mmmmmm. Art That's an alternative method of finding out if someone is a vegan. Usual method: How can you tell if someone ids a vegan?? Don't worry, they'll tell you!!
Gerritt Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 Being dutch I grew up eating smoked horse meat often enough. I really enjoy it. I found a shop located in Trenton that carries it. G.
