coreyhkh Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Hey just wondering if anyone here has a Go Pro camera I am looking at getting one and using it for underwater videos, mounting to my boat for cool shots.
fish_fishburn Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Go for it. They are awesome little cameras. Don't buy the cheaper cameras that are about 50 to 75 less. Cant remember the names of the others, but a few buddies have them and wish they had GoPro
danbouck Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I have a Kodak playsport and a GoPro, the Kodak is better in most cases but the GoPro is a good cam

Roy Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I got a GoPro Hero on February 14th but I haven't been out with it...yet. Tons of accessory mounts and such to look at. Something else to do for this summer. And yeah, Kodak is officially out of the camera business. A hard blow to those of us who grew up calling a camera a Kodak. Hey Agnes! Fido's taking a dump, get the Kodak!
trapshooter Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I have the GoPro HD Hero2 and love it. Easy to use (there's only 2 buttons!) and so versatile with how it can be mounted + underwater.
Curtisss Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 x2 on the Playsport. I like leaving the fish-eyes to the fish.
young_one Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) I've had my GoPro for over half a year. Lots of great footage from my fishing excursions. My computer harddrive is quickly running out of room with all the high definition videos. I highly recommend the "chesty" (chest mount) and spare battery is a must. I have a 32G Class 10 SDHC on the device. I can record close to 6-7 hrs (720P quality) of non-stop videos with 2 batteries. The wide-angle lens will capture more objects within the frame, but closeup subjects will look slightly distorted. Here are some of my outings recorded with GoPro HD Hero: Taken with the head mount Taken with the chest mount Taken with the head mount Edited March 20, 2012 by young_one
Djeep Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I have the hero 2 and its a great little camera, very versatile with burst pic modes and such. fish eye can be a little aggravating at times but the quality is awesome.
bucktail Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Dont buy the original Go Pro if you find it on the net for sale. They dont service them anymore, youll get an optin for some money to get a go pro2. It is awesome. I have the video of my big muskie from last summer on it somewhere. Remeber the go pro2 has a display which really is needed so you can edit on the fly.
Djeep Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 My go pro 2 did not come with a display, it is an extra option. A rather pricey one at around $100 I believe. Would certainly come in handy but will have to wait till next year with the gas prices.
Quebec kid Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 (edited) Go pro's are awsome little cam's we use one for POV (point of view) shots and uderwater footage. Some better cams are on the market for the price range but GoPro is easy to use and has a TONE of accessories. Here is a vid mostly shot with go pro, but dont confuse the shots with the T3i https://vimeo.com/38384860 this is kinda of a cool mount for edits, made with the "handle bar mount" (sorry not HD) Edited March 21, 2012 by Quebec Kid

GBW Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I got the HD hero at Christmas for $189 I think at Future Shop. So far so good but the GoPro CineForm Studio software keeps on crashing on me and have no clue what else to use to edit the videos.
12footspringbok Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I don't have one but I'm really liking some of the videos of guys fishing that do have them. Fishing shows without the Bull advertising.
coreyhkh Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 Thanks guys I got one today, I had to go all over London to find it.
GBW Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Thanks guys I got one today, I had to go all over London to find it. so what are you going to use to edit the video footage?
Terry Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 you have to convert to edit with most video editing programs
GBW Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 you have to convert to edit with most video editing programs nope, I'm a walleye guy and not going to convert to the others unless walleye is closed for the season...
Diltsy Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 My only complaint with the gopro is underwater. The footage is terrible. If you are looking to get a lot of under water shots you might want to look into an after market flat lens for the housing, though they are fairly expensive. If you search gopro focus fix or gopro blur fix on youtube you will find some DIY videos on how to fix the problem as well as before and after clips. Other than that I love the camera and can't wait to put it to use this summer!
