northernpike56 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) Hey all I went for a walk up at loweville park to try and see the salmon spawning one more time. I saw 2 guys snagging with big spinners and spoons and earplugs stuck to big treble hooks. I told them that they wernt allowed to be fishing there and they ignored me. I continued on my walk, turned back eventually and they were still there (20 minutes later). I pulled out the camera and they instantly stopped fishing, so they knew that they were snagging in a sanctuary. Is there anything I can do about these idiots? I have pictures of them but no ID (lisence plate, etc.) Would It be worth it to call the MNR? Edited September 1, 2012 by northernpike56
mike rousseau Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Nope... I've been told they have to be caught in the act... I've tried reporting people by giving a license plate #... No good Next time call the Mnr hotline and tell em where this is taking place... They can get there in 5 minutes sometimes...
cuzza Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Would've been better to call the MNR while they were there probably and left them to it. Well done speaking up
Rod Caster Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 We have found our Mob leader Unless your much bigger than them, touching their gear could be asking for trouble. They are buttheads however, so they deserve it... anyway, no point in me preaching your own safety. I would call your local MNR and get an email address where you could send the pics and report.
scugpg Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Still call them and note the area! Might get a few more patrols down there. Calling it in immediately should get someone there, can't the police show up as well if a CO isn't available? Remember most cell phones and cameras have video camera on them now, doesn't hurt to snap a pic and take a video. Don't take matters into your own hands, you never know how someone will react. Just disgusting what people do to those salmon. what the hell is wrong with them
northernpike56 Posted October 22, 2011 Author Report Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) It really bugs me that these guys can get away with this stuff. I'll be adding the MNR number to my phone. Edited September 1, 2012 by northernpike56
Roy Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 They were running spinners with earplugs on them??? And you knocked over their rods and stepped on them??? wow.
northernpike56 Posted October 22, 2011 Author Report Posted October 22, 2011 They were running spinners with earplugs on them??? And you knocked over their rods and stepped on them??? wow. monster 5 of diamond spoons in rapids less then 3" deep, blue fox #5 spinners, and huge trebles with 2 earplugs stuck onto them.
Pikeslayer8 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Nice work NP56 knocking over and rod stomping. I don't understand the ear plug?
northernpike56 Posted October 22, 2011 Author Report Posted October 22, 2011 Nice work NP56 knocking over and rod stomping. I don't understand the ear plug? I've never tried it of course, but from what i've read, snaggers use earplugs because they float (so the big treble hook suspends in the water column) and when a salmon gets close they'll set the hook really hard and try to snag them
woodenboater Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 I heartily applaud your letting them know you're onto them and taking their photo, however, tbh, I'm not feeling the need for stepping on their gear no matter how satisfying it may have felt. Seeing their arses burned by CO's would have been reward enough. Chances are you may get another chance to see them caught and this would be supremely cool.
vinnimon Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Calling the local opp may have been an option until the mnr shows up. Dunno if they can do that. But for destruction of personal property. No soup for you.
Remastered Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Here's an idea. How about not letting them know your there while you call the MNR? Rod stomping. Is that legal?
OutdoorDan Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Way to come across two poachers and manage to come out the bigger ass.

Remastered Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 cutting the line always works, or at least gives you some pleasure lol.. LMAO Can't argue with that. Neither can the poachers if you tell tem about the MNR.
