ciceri Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Does anyone know if Canal Lake is open now? At least good enough for a canoe? Looking for some Pike action. Any tips appreciated. Thanks.
chris.brock Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 if the weather's clear, you may be able to see it here http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html
scugpg Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 if the weather's clear, you may be able to see it here http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html Where is the easiest spots to launch in Canal or Mitchell lake? Do you need to be real careful with stumps etc? Never been but wanting to go for some pike.
fish-miester Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 bridge north is best place to launch its on the north east side of the lake.. the bays are very shallow and can have stumps and rocks

Terry Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Mitchell has the better ramp right off 48 east , turn left as soon as you go over the canal at Mitchell
gone_fishin Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 the water level is pretty low on mitchell right now... there's no water in the swampy area on the south side of 48. which means the lake is down 2-3 feet from normal.
Kerry Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Re Canal lk: There is a launch on centennial dr off of 48 about a mile or so past the trailer park.Don't know if the lake has any ice left but you will drive right over the 'hole in the wall' to get there and it's one of the more popular shore spots because of the narrows. It's a pay and park launch.I think it's 6 bucks and your license # on the envelope. fish_d00d Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 I just called Sunset Cove at Canal Lake. They said the water level is still too low (I am disappointed too). Said you could probably get your boat in, but will be hard to get it out... give it another 2 - 3 weeks. I read on another post that Buckhorn may be good, though.
ciceri Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 Thanks guys.. See if we can't get out next week.

fish-miester Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 didnt see any.. and it was a 14' tinny with a bowmount
richyb Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Canal is only down maybe 2 feet at the most from its normal level. My grandparents live on the lake and i was sitting on grandpas dock having a beer and its only a foot or so from being at the normal depth.
cheaptackle Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Have they even started filling it yet? As I remember they used to drop the level for the winter, are they still doing that? Michael
scugpg Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Guys where would I get some minnows to head out from the Lindsay area to go up there? Emms still have them?
fish-miester Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 I ment to say its down 3 feet .. but i guess that was close enough.. as for the locks.. yeah I just am not sure when they pull the logs from the dams to start filling the lakes.. and as for Minnows.. Scugog I was I live in Lindsay and was over at both shops.. heard that Emms didnt have them on thursday and or they were waiting for more.. and im pretty sure the other shop had minnows.. cant think of what the shop is called but its the one a block down the street..

mistaredone Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 I tried launching at the public launch yesterday at Canal and it was too shallow me. I saw two boats on the water and the one guy I talked to said he used that same launch. Ended up putting in on Mitchell with no problem. Spent 5 hours on the lake with one 30 inch pike to show. Other than that we saw two small pike move and that was it.
fish-miester Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 ya the Canal Launch was a bit of a pain to use.. but we managed it. as for mitchel what did you get the gator on ?
mistaredone Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Things were slow so I went to the go to lure Mepps 3 long shartruce.
fish-miester Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 hmm very true. my buddy I took out was using that too with no luck while i fished with just about everything else trying to get one. where did you find her? deep - shallow - flat - drop off.. you dont have to tell me where you were fishing just currious where they are right now.. was on Dalrymple yesterday and saw some that were in pretty shallow but wernt interested
