Cudz Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 1. I was out fishing with a friend today and we were drop shotting tiny tubes and micro senkos for perch. All of a sudden my friend hooks into a big (relative to the perch we were catching) pike. He hooked it perfectly in the side of the mouth. Hard to catch pike on a drop shot setup when the hook is attached directly to the 8 pound line. He was using a tiny pearl 2" (yes 2") senko. The pike was about 9 pounds and we even managed to land it. I have a pic as well but it is on my friend's phone. 2. The other day I caught a 10" crappie on pearl 10cm x-rap. (not so unbelievable) 3. I have a tackle box full of $10-$30 lures and I threw out a popper that I bought at dolarama for a buck. After only 2 casts I caught a 16.5" 2 pounde smalie. Too funny.
danbouck Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Gave a buddy a cheap (very cheap) 2" plastic lure from Scotland and he pulled in a 4 pound smallie.
purekgw Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 i was using a huge musky lure just for laughs and caught a 1lb small mouth the back treble hook was in its mouth the lure could have eaten the bass.....
Sinker Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I caught a 9" crappie on a musky spinner bait last week....I dont' know what it was thinking? Also been getting lots of eyes on musky baits this season so far......they'll eat anything it seems. Sinker
ccmtcanada Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I was jigging for walleye with a white/pink twister tail and a 10 pound pike slammed it. Amazing I brought it in considering the 6 pound mono without a leader.
Cudz Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 One more for you. About 20 years ago we were downrigging for lakers on simcoe and I was reading fish at about 25 ft over 90ft of water. Because the LCR 2000 was such a basic finder I assumed the suspended fish were just clutter or false readings. I threw out a deeper diving big rapala fat rap and caught a 7 pound whitefish.
Musky or Specks Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Heres some of mine Labour Day Salmon while musky fishing a buchertail Smallmouth on same buckertail same day And my ultimate a nice steelhead on a rouser which is a 8" glide bait for musky
Rombo Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I was fishing for pike with a 8" jointed rapala and caught a 3" rock bass
Hillrat Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Had a honkin big Perch latch onto a rattlin rap once while fishing for pike, but I guess that wasn't too strange. By far the weirdest is not once but twice nhow I have seen my roomie hook into a big Muskie while we were fishing for Bass. First time was on a 6" Senko. Got it in the corner of the mouth then ran under a log or something under water. He fought the thing for a good long while, the whole time rubbing his line back and forth across said log. Just when he was about to give up the fish came ouy and after a few mins he landed it. Think it measured out to 41". The Second was while casting tubes for smallies in a river. Again, corner of the mouth, and the fish was landed. Lucky sot...
danc Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I've witnessed both Lake Trout and Pike in the thirty lb. range caught with 1 1/2 inch jigs intended for Brook Trout. In fact my good fishing Bud caught a mid 40's Pike last weekend under the same circumstances. It happens too often up here. The fewer Pike that I catch, the better.
pokerdemon4 Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) Heres one from this year on a musky stalker. Edited June 27, 2008 by pokerdemon4
charlied Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 i had a rock bass hit a rapala J13 will fishing for pike.
Cudz Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 Perch are a bit nuts. My friend actually uses Rapala HJ12s for perch. They love it. I have also caught small rockbass on big spinnerbaits. This winter, a student of mine, caught a 50" musky on tiny rapala ice fishing jig. Corner of mouth caught and landed.
tibbs Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I put a plain hook in the water on the dock and i was about to put a plastic on then a small bass hit it and i got it!
Rombo Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I put a plain hook in the water on the dock and i was about to put a plastic on then a small bass hit it and i got it! I've done that many times off the dock
Cudz Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 I caught nothing on something! That has happened too often. lol
kemper Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 20 lb carp on a Xrap 22" Walleye while floating roe for trout in late february watched three pike landed on roe in early march
gone_fishin Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 40+ pound carp on a perch coloured floating rapala... hooked in the mouth. very strange! landed on 6lb test mono as well...
jace Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 9-10# coho on a bead and skin herring rig. I would estimate the hook traces to be around 6# line tops.
Reef Runner Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Catfish on a roe bag on the Credit River last fall. Many suicidal perch attacking my musky spinnerbaits.
Oktravis Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I was chucking spoons off the pier for salmons in the fall .I watched a 20 lb carp chase down my 2\5 blue little cleo and just smash it. It chased it for a good 6 ft before inhaling it I landed it in shock.
timmeh Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 This past winter I caught 2 pike while bottom bouncing worms for trout, which I thought was quite unusual. The really strange part was that I landed both of them even though I had a 4lb fluro leader on.
BillM Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Had a 4lb OOS smallmouth smash a TopRaider while fishing the French river during the muskie opener.
