What line gives a better fight when trolling? Some lines are heavy and take away from the fight. Do you like fish on downriggers, on the boards or dippy divers?

Thanks for any thoughts.

THough they take the most "bigger" fish for me, I hate fighting salmon on wire dipsey setups, ya its fun feeling 'em directly, but I prefer 14 lb mono with a clean spoon off the rigger for trout & kings

I have caught 4 pound or so walleye on braided dacron that would about jerk the rod out of your hand. My brother used wire and said it is worse, you need a lighter action rod? I have trolled for walleye and smallies on Lake Erie using 8 and 10# mono, nothing much for them to get into so it was heavy enough. Never used dipseys or down riggers. Guess a lot would depend on what I was trolling for, used 17 to 20 pound up north for pike, lost skis on it.

Power pro, or some other Spectra Fiber gel spun braid has almost no stretch and connects you very directly with your fish.

Spectra is a Honeywell product.

I fish with 2lb test tell everyone its 20lb test and crank the drag.

I loose just about every fish but people always say "wow, that must have been huge to snap that line"

Line???? Don't bother. If its a fight yer lookin for, just find yerself a catfish under an undercut bank and wrassle 'em out. That's the way men (and apparently some women) fish down south

When I troll for Lakers with my 'riggers I use Sufix 12lb.. with a get this.. a Trilene XL 10' leader

{ for a little stretch} tied to ball bearing snap swivel set up on a ..Meduim Light action 7' Berkley Lightnin' Rod ... beleive me every fish feels BIG... I 've brought in 23lb lakers and a few 10lb+

bonus Walleye on this set up...just use your drag system and you win every time !!

Good Luck !!

Well glen ill tell ya one thing when i am trolling with a 20lb wire set-up on my convector 30 with a 8ft okuma roller rod...and a dipsey...man when those big salmon hit man its down right violent, man im not kidding it will almost yank you right out of the boat....there is no strech on mason 7strand wire and man its just wicked...i love trolling with that wire...and no its not like what the oldtimers use for lake trout this stuff is state of the art...im gonna bring a wire rod to quinte as well...

:thumbsup_anim: Yes Clamp-It... I backreel when I can It usually depends on the set up I' using

my Lightenin' carries a reel that has a continous anti-reverse...so I have to count on my skills & my drag.

Good Fishin'
