  1. +1 It also evaporates and rains down on the rest of the world.
  2. Sounds very logical and difficult to argue with. An addiction is an addiction but at least this one is only mental. I had to do the same thing many years ago for different reasons. A decade later I now have priorities, limits and rules that silenced the constant need but it sounds like your addiction is too powerful for that. Don't feel guilty about picking up a rod and bobber while sitting at a doc with some else. Just make them the #1 priority, maybe not hold a rod and don't forget.
  3. There are a few very vague things in the ad. -reel is good as a backup? -rod is from the fishing canada series -condition of rod? Unknown. Condition of reel, well it is a backup reel because it is dinged(?) so I guess the seller doesn't think it is much good. On top of that the guy says "Make me a serious offer!!!!" How about posting a serious ad? so the purchase is questionable......this may be a deal or not but the OP will learn a bit from the window shopping at least. Personally I would not travel more than 10 minutes to see it and would not agree to the price on it by via email.
  4. some thoughts: 1) Doggy door sounds like a good idea 2) Industrial type heating with propane or other fossil fuel a bad idea due to expense and or carbon monoxide issues 3) Teach the dogs how to open and close doors properly 4) build them on outside shelter that shares one call with the house (so it will get he heat off the house
  5. I don't buy it.....there is no way that guy is from Quebec. Its for sure that the toque and red snowmobile suit are photoshopped in. On the other hand that fish looks pretty authentic.
  6. OK...thanks guys. I know what to look for...thanks for the insurance and map tips too! Stuntman
  7. Feeling a bit better.....sickness in my stomach lessening....more at rest thank you This incident happened while the boat was on the trailer. I have not seen people put any type of basic protection around their motors while on a trailer....does anyone here do that? thanks guys....more posts are welcome.
  8. Thanks for the input 2 Tone Z71. I don't see any wobble in the shaft when turning it by hand (it does not spin freely, I think that is normal due to being engaged). The engine has not been run since the damage so fillings will not be present. Its just the play in the shaft I wonder about.....from your post I am thinking that this is normal on most motors. Correct? Anyone have a late 4 stroke merc they can wiggle for me? stuntman
  9. It causes the need to ask about outboard motors. Broke the fin, broke a prop but do not know if I broke anything else like the prop shaft! How do I tell if there is damaged the lower unit without putting it in the water? Should there be any play in the prop shaft? The good news is that there is no fluid leakage. I am a total newbie on motors and and want to avoid another dumb move. thanks, stuntman (feeling kind of sad, need help...please)
  10. Beware of listening to the people at MTO...they do not have a clue. I tried to get a temp permit: -I talked to 6 people and got 6 different stories about licensing a trailer from the states. They do not know the rules and need retraining. -I bet if I went to 6 different offices someone would stamp the paper even if I did not have everything required. -Finally the guy is going to have to drop the trailer at my house and I will take the 1Km down to CTC to get it inspected for certification unplated. -"can't get a trip permit without the second customs form (CTC check), cant legally get it to CTC for the check without the trip permit." Check the link from a previous post: Certificate of origin is all that is required but CDN customs goes on about title in hand.....dealers will not give you ownership, just the certificate of origin. How does everyone else get their trailer around if a dealer gave them a certificate of origin so you could register it here? stuntman
  11. Check out the Holmes on Homes fan forum....they have beaten subfloor to death: http://www.mikeholmesfanforum.com/
  12. Awesome! I have a question....how would someone go about fishing such a huge glut of fish in water that shallow? stuntman
  13. I have gotten a lot of good help from the OFC members on buying the type of boat I would be happy with. Unfortunately, I regularly suffer from buyers remorse (even with good purchases, is there a pill for that?) when I am green to the market. So I guess I am just looking for a bit of reassurance, I could back out but the seller is holding on to it for me and I like keeping deals (even tentative ones) I make and am not worried about a couple of hundred dollars overspent; I hope I am in good form: -2007 Lund SSV-16 with floors and lights -2007 40HP 4-stroke merc (really too much power but it might help me venture a bit for salmon on Lake Ontario) -good bunk trailer with those guides on the side - 4 to 5 hours on the motor -I am all giddy about getting to take it out for the first time. -$7400-$8100 (exact price might be bad form) on the road and in the water. The seller is a co-worker of my brothers, but really neither of us know the seller. Its more motor than I need but I think its a boat that will be versitile and outlast me. Any opinions? stuntman
  14. A LOT of used private sale bass boats mixed with some dealer postings here: http://www.bigfatbass.com/cgi-bin/classifieds.cgi stuntman
  15. You had to go all the way to Virginia for a boat?!? That must have been some deal. Google maps may help with a fast route but I bet CAA or AAA will have the safest. have a good trip. Stuntman
  16. CBC radio said that people saw flares last night so they were concentrating on a particular area. Does everyone keep a marine radio handy? stuntman
  17. Thanks for the link, tons of info. stuntman
  18. I need someone to save me from 20 minutes of telephone on hold time: Boat registration: When is it required and when isn't it? Pelase keep in mind I am talking about smaller aluminum fishing boats and not those monster salmon boats on Lake Ontario. thanks, stuntman
  19. There are a lot of set top DVD recorders out there. Mine was $100 came with a TV tuner and several sets of A/V inputs; it works just like a VCR. Expect to pay $200, with tax, on a name brand one. DVDs will be about $1 a piece and record 2-6?hrs (LP, SP) The only problem I can think of you having is that the tapes are protected by Macrovision. Every try to record from VHS to VHS and the picture looks all twisted and funky? Thats Macrovison. As mentioned before you can get older stuff pretty dirt cheap on DVD, its all a mater of preference. stuntman
  20. Wow, nice boat. Great work, thats something to be proud of. Maybe there should be a "my rig" section or album? stuntman
  21. Hey there, I am pretty sure just about every boat and motor combination has been run by OFNers: In the market for a small 4-stroke motor and want to be able to troll with it too. How big is too big for this double duty? The boat is a semi V, about 300lbs. is 25hp too big? I love good advice, thanks, stuntman
  22. I am pretty sure that 6.2:1 gear ration means that for every gear ration question you ask you will get 1 good reply and 6.2 replies giving you the gears.
  23. Compared to the guys in the show I saw, those guys are wimps. The guys I saw wore no gloves and were elbow deep into some of those fishes mouths. I think there all a bit crazy, I'll stick to catch frogs with my bare hands. Stuntman
  24. I second this. I only had to jar the break loose with a reverse of 6" or so. Its the easiest and fastest, it worked for me and after that I never had to worry about it again. SStuntman
