  1. He is an operator. Apparently he got off the trail in the fog and went through. In my opinion he shouldn't have taken that truck out there. Its a large truck with a diesel engine. Too heavy. Unfortunate but I'm glad he's OK, he's a good fellow. The ice never did get too good in the area he went down. There was quite a bit of snow around the islands during the cold and prevented good ice formation.
  2. Ha Ha HA..Rich ..you kill me....Great stuff. You and Sugarpacket look like you have a great time together. Thanks for the chuckle
  3. Every picture a large grin . Now I have one too. Thanks for posting.
  4. Love posts like this one Burtess. You and your daughter enjoying the day. I like the short video, the reaction when kids catch a fish makes everyone smile.
  5. None of us are smiling here but we really were. And we should have been. Nice bunch of fish that day for a great fish fry. For those that dont who we are. Gerritt, me, Wild Bill Hickok, and introducing the lovely and talented Corey. A pic from earlier that beauty day in June (only 6 months away now) The only fish I caught all summer. Nice hat eh Joe?
  6. Have 5 computers to maintain. 3 at home, 1 at the cottage and 1 at work. Been running AVG for about 5 years. 3 of them now are switched to Avast anti-virus. I find Avast is easier to look after and you don't need to manually update the spyware portion of it. I also think it runs a little faster. By the way, I haven't had any virus problems since I switched from Norton years ago. I occasionally use Limewire too so it works well. Mcafee sucks, it's as bad as Norton we used to use it at our business. Crapcleaner is a neat little downloadable program too. Run it about once a month to keep things cleaned up. You need to be a little cautious of what you clean but it will run a backup if you clean something off you shouldn't have.
  7. Love the report Mike. Congratulations Ryan . You will be out fishing yer Dad in no time!
  8. Good point Rick. There are some places on Nipissing that are still thin. With the mild spell it will make it even more unpredictable. Increased current flows after the mild spell is over will continue to erode ice for a while even after the cold returns.
  9. Good points Cookslav. Jose Canseco fish. I guess ball players on steroids still maintain their records. But I don't agree they should either.

When I was a kid the advertising line was "You are your own liquor control board". What ever happened to that? Why are we trying to blame people other than the ones drinking? No one wants to take responsibilities for their own actions anymore.
  11. If what Irish suggests is the case I have used an automotive rear defroster repair kit epoxy to repair a worn remote pad. It contains a conductor in the epoxy to renew the contact.
  12. Very sad indeed. Sorry for the families involved. A friend stopped by my shop today and told me he went through with his ATV on Nipissing today. He is an experienced guy on the lake too. Goes to show you really need to be cautious. Areas on Nipissing that had snow drifts and high current flow areas still only have a couple inches of ice.
  13. Living on the lake all my life and dealing with many lodge operators over that time I have seen many come and go. The ones that make it are totally dedicated to the job and were usually well off financially to begin with. Hard work and lots of hours are required. I have never seen one make it where the owner is absent. Take the advise of many here that know too. It can be done and I suppose it can be rewarding but don't count on doing a lot of fishing.
  14. On second thought maybe if you wait till next year there will be an on-line model so you can give updates to us all as you catch em' .
  15. Gerritt, if you make a decision on what you would like let me know and I will find out what $ for you. For what its worth, Lowrance seems to be the top choice by most, including me. I will be looking at getting one in the spring with colour and GPS capability.
  16. This guy raises some great questions in a funny way. This looks like a great way to get around in town. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M88k6Ipp3c
  17. A buddy sent me this on MSN. TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930s, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children , we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came o n. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K . We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms........ WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found t hem! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years hav e been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!
  18. Just remember -never bang the blades of any auger on the ice. Got my butt kicked as a kid for doing that. It doesn't take much to bend them out of place and they wont cut worth a doggone after. (Funny how you remember things when you get yer butt kicked ) Think I mentioned this last year when the same subject was up.
  19. How hard did you need to turn and how hard did you accelerate to get it?
  20. Hi Rick. Sorry about your pooch. I know how you feel about him. I know I would have no choice either. Hope all goes well in the future for you and Jack. Take care and have a Merry Christmas.
  21. I think the title tells all. And while I'm at it Merry Christmas to all OFC'ers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Anyone that hasn't seen the romantic sleigh ride Bud commercial has to see this.
