Happy Birthday Bernie!!!! (aka Nipissing)
Bernie replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Wow. thanks! Hey Wayne ..Forgot I told you that.. Must be getting old... Anytime at all Cliff and Carole. -
You read it right Wayne. I think they open it up just to get an idea whether or not the population is increasing or not. If I recall they are making a slight comeback but very slowly.

Hiya Maverick. Welcome to the neighborhood. I am 20 miles south in Powassan. Yep, Deepwater point area is a good winter fishing ground. Not too sure about the regs on Trout lake. Not a trout fisherman but they have been trying to revive the trout fishery there. Over the last few years I think they may open it up for a couple days for Lakers. P.S If you need someone to check out your Skidoo let me know. I think I know someone who can fix it.

The myth started years ago when batteries were made in wooden cases. It was true back then because the electrolyte would soak into the lime in the cement neutralizing the acid in the battery. The cold temperatures slow down the chemical reaction in battery's, it's usually hot temperatures that will accelerate deterioration but the colder temps is where it shows its weakness. Most of my auto battery sales are in the fall during pre-winter inspections. The new style battery electronic testers are amazingly accurate but I still use the old style load test to verify. Got to say that I prefer the Interstate line of battery as well. Sell several brands but the least amount of problems with the Interstate.

Up in my area back then I can remember (barely) having to crank the phone handle to get the operator and telling her the #. It was a two or three digit at the time. We only had 3 channels on TV up here until 1980, four if you could speak French. Thats about when cable came to town.

LOL Dan. Are you sure you want to start this? I will reserve my right not to answer this question on this boat until 2 or 3 years from now.

Went out to the cottage for an overnight stay yesterday. Was the ice ever rumbling last night, almost like an earthquake. It would shake the cottage on some of the largest shakes. Was talking to Marc at Anglers Haven on my way home today and he figures it was because of the rising water level. Took some shots while I was out there. A shot of my place in the sunset. On my way home today took a shot of where the truck went through during the mild spell. They are trying to get it out. They were flooding the area around it for the last few days to make it strong enough to lift. Apparently the towing operators slid a snowmachine into the hole so now they have to get it out too. You can just see the roof of the truck sticking out.

It's a sad thing really. Our local Lions club has done great things for our community. The local arena, swimming pool, ball park, playgrounds, and much, much more were either completely or partially funded by our club. We try very hard to add members to our club each and every year. We may get a couple new ones but I'm 50 and there are not too many younger than me. Recent changes to ticket sales (more government Bull) make it even harder to raise funds for new projects. Without community oriented clubs like Lions it will make it difficult for some projects to begin or continue. I wonder what will happen in the future? It seems like our way of life is deteriorating badly. Fewer people go out and socialize at local events as well and become community strong.

Heres to add to Joe's good point of view. When you shop local you support yourself to some degree. Your local guy pays taxes (lots of them). These taxes support your community. Eliminate local businesses and who picks up the taxes required to run it? You do. Chances are your local guy understands this and would support the local businesses as well. He/she probably gets hit daily with can you help support our ball/hockey/boy-or girl scout etc. club or donations to fishing events. The margins are not as large in a smaller store as they would not have the buying power of the large box stores. But repair service means a lot. Big box stores seem to miss the boat (no pun intended)on that often.

Came across this. Might be worthwhile. Wonder if it applies to ski-doos too? http://www.timminspress.com/ArticleDisplay...=Brandon+Walker

My son Nick is down there working the Crestliner display. It's his first experience at the boat show so take it easy on him folks. He's a good kid. Stop and say hi to him for me if anyone goes by there. And tell him to be careful driving my truck down there.

$180.00 a year for me. Full coverage. On with a good many other vehicles.

Right on Wayne!... I already refuse to watch them until they quit ripping us off. I still am a leafs fan but cant support them in their current state. The problem lies above the level of Ferguson.

Hi Wayne. I run my ATV on the streets around our town as they are allowed. No passengers allowed-even with a made for 2 people machine. But on the lakes and unmaintained roads 2 can go. 1/2 the posted speed limit on streets. And they are enforced here. Lights must be on. Love mine around town.Easy to park and great fuel economy. Also use it for pushing cars in from in the town. Towing operators are crazy priced so if I can save my customers a buck or two.....

An hour and a half in a boat @25-30 MPH Beans. In good weather. Took 2.5 to get there last year in rough water. By vehicle would take about 2 hrs. Its a long way around from the south end.

Yes Mike. Maybe enough will wash up on my beach to build something.

Here are some pics as a result.

Heres a video of a fish hut on Nipissing featured on our local papers website. It's a little far away but you get the idea of how fast they will travel. http://nugget.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=849265

That much water should bring up the lake level a little bit anyway. The rivers around my area are sure flowing hard. Lots of road closures as well.

Woodsman I believe that reply would have been best in a Pm. Out of respect.

Hey Bill . I know how you feel. I had an ATV stolen from me about 10 years ago (No key in it). My heart sunk because I had just purchased and finished overhauling and was ready to go deer hunting. No insurance was on it yet.....Geeeeez. I'm still mad as hell when I think about it. Some low life dude never did get caught because I never did get it back. Yet some here say thats the way society is and its your fault it happened.?????? Something is terribly wrong with that statement. Its sad we need a key or a lock for anything really.

Picked this from another board. This is Callander Bay. Doesn't look to good right now. Hopefully get a cold snap soon. Lots of reports of blown away shacks on Nipissing too.
-
Ouch. Hope all goes well for you Jack. All the best for a quick rebound.

Glad to see all went well for your pet Rich. She will be up and around in no time.
