Another problem that occurs with grease filled hubs is rust buildup on the surface the seal rides on. This ruins the seal. As mentioned before as the heat builds in the hub the air/grease expands, when you back into the water over the hub this quickly cools the hub sucking water inside. For all the time it takes before you use your trailer for first time pull the hub off and take a look. If necessary to replace bearing make sure the seal surface is clean and smooth. Also a good idea to coat grease outside the seal to help prevent seal surface rust. The oil filled hubs excel but they too need to be maintained. also make sure your tire pressures are good. You cant tell by visual check. USE THE GUAGE. Look at your tire sidewalls at the same time. Trailer tires are notorious for cracking. Better to check them before you head out. How many times have you seen trailers at the side of the road with a tire or a hub off?

A compass would also be a good addition. Oops..i see its already been mentioned

A good quality reel,2000 or 2500 series. I dont know anything about Daiwa reels. I use Shimano. The quality of the drag is vital. If you hook a fish with a weight over the rating of your line the drag is adjusted so the fish can take the line off the spool without breakage. The mono line is mostly a filler for the spool but also serves to prevent the more slippery braid from slipping on the spool. I have caught 20 lb pike on 6lb test line with a properly adjusted drag. The lighter the line you use will create ease of casting and less tangles. The biggest mistake I see with new fisherpeople is a spool that is not filled close to the lip. Stretching the line out after you spool it will help avoid tangles too.Use a line that has little or no "memory" I like fireline but have not tried some other types that others here have mentioned. Make sure the spool is full(level). This makes for less resistance of the line off the spool. Use a line with little or no memory to prevent tangles. A lighter or smaller diameter line works best (I prefer fireline) A good rod makes for good distance and casting control. 2000 series Shimano spinning reel is what I prefer as well for using jigs for walleye..

I think some of you guys need a bigger yard. A place to work on your boat and motor. A place to build a garage to get out of the house for some peace and quiet. A place where you can whip your rod out in the backyard ( casting practice OK ).
