If you want more muskies Pigeon is the place to go. Good for you on hooking one. Putting those little Pigeon muskies flat on a carpeted floor is perhaps most detrimental to them as you remove their protective slime. Boga grips also tend to extend their vertabrae causing further problems despite hammering big hooks in them for capture. A big musky net or cradle and leaving the fish in water while removing hook helps a lot. Good luck in the future.

Very nice that you put your gf on some ski's. That area of Pigeon is my favorite for catching them muskies.

Ya constant thunder/lightening last two hours here in Toronto but not much else. Kinda like having strobe light in windows
-
Now Tornado warnings for entire Lake Huron shoreline area. Severe thunderstorm warnings for Georgian Bay shores over to Huntsville. Looks like these storms came to fruition. Look out folks....

Those clouds are actually called mammatus. Mammatus are found on the back end of severe thunderstorm complexes only. You might see them today but they don't always occur.

Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod
ehg replied to SirWhite's topic in General Discussion
Buddy, re-read the post. I recommended that the OP doesn't use medium bass spinning gear for targeting musky. Then mentioned that i use Medium-Heavy(Carolina-rigging) gear for Kawartha musky which i find personally more than adequate enough for the endless 32-40 inch muskies i catch. Thats all. I didn't go against anyone else's recommendations which were all fine. But, 100 lb test and heavy musky gear seems like overkill for the Kawarthas exclusively. Please don't personally attack me for nothing. Have contributed here for many, many years for many species and techniques successfully. Thanks -

Yawn! -
That storm kicking up is scary stuff. Lightening when out on the boat is scariest. Great video though!

Ya, all of southern Ontario east to Belleville/Pembroke now under Tornado watch. Never seen this before. That F-3 last weekend in Goderich really has made them cautious.

Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod

Dude, i have fished Kawarthas for musky hardcore for almost thirty years. I think i know what i am talking about many 100's of musky later. An assumption of not having knipex, long needle nose pliers, cradle, etc... is wrong. What do they say about assumptions..... -
I think you are right. After that F-3 hit Goderich last weekend they seem to have a larger area and way sooner warning of potential. The watch extends from Parry Sound down to Windsor and nothing is to happen still for hours. Maybe nothing will happen even?

Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod

Using a medium bass spinning outfit is not a good idea. Much of what you are using depends upon what body of water you are fishing. In the Kawarthas the fish are usually 32-40 inches or 5-15 lbs. There really is no reason to get over the top musky gear for the small Kawartha muskies. If you are fishing Georgian Bay, Ottawa River or St. Lawrence R. You might need heavy braids and heavier musky equipment as hitting a world record size fish is possible. Personally use MH bass baitcasting equipment as i fish Kawarthas exclusively. Still feel like i am effortlessly winching in the fish too quickly. Where are you fishing? -
A very sad passing indeed. Because of his leadership separatism is now off the Canadian political agenda. Truly wanted to make a better place for working class (majority of) Canadians.

Thanks for taking the time and putting together this report. The FWIW at the end has a ton of useful insight for musky hunting.

Followed by one fully decked-out, big sharp dressed rooster. Handsome fella! Probably one of the greatest fishing pictures ever. That char is incredible. As good as that trip was for your soul, by taking the time to share the experience with others will spread good karma all around. Many thanks

That is a super nice chunky big walleye musta been around 8+lbs. You live in a great area for fishing. That jig is called a Jigging Shad Rap. Thus the chunkier profile. Here is a link to them. http://www.rapala.com/products/lures/jigging_rap/

Some very nice fishes! That new approach is paying off.

Nice job there Shawn. Thanks for posting, for sure there is more good ones you will catch.

WOW! Lac Seul must surpass Lake of the Woods for greatest multi-species freshwater fishing. It must take super skills and determination to hit that many brutes. Thanks for sharing.
-
Wow... that is some good fishing

Stoco Lake might be a good start since it is sorta near. When i started trying musky 25+yrs. ago knowing an exact weedline on a Kawarthas lake and constantly trolling up and down it with medium sized lure (Rapala J-13) was a great place to start. Find a good musky lake with a clear weedline and troll it.

McDonald's is closer and i buy the $1.39 small coffee/muffin things. Much better price and quality than Timmies now frozen food or burnt/watery coffee. Developed a hate on for Timmies when they didn't take debit(like everywhere else) over a decade ago but was all i had when coming back from fishing. Timmies=ripoff

Looks like the fishing was great. What an awesome trip for the kids. The bald eagles are showing up in the Ontario reports all over this year. Good stuff!
