  1. Seems that a very distinct type of Great Lakes spotted musky has found its niche on St.Clair. I guess Canal Lake and Dalrymple have been overrun with pike, being smaller, shallow lakes. Balsam is next but we will have to wait and see. Still mostly nice Kawartha muskies in Balsam, tiger musky and pike are a little ways behind still. This is a situation that will take some time to be clear. Hope something will be learned by the efforts put into Simcoe.
  2. Had the wood burning stove going this weekend for fun. Brings a lot of merriment for family. Not a necessity so not a chore to deal with, even with my disability.
  3. That fish has some length. Maybe 5 lbs or so now but could be more when it fattens up. Nice fish.
  4. About 5-6 yrs. ago there was a thread on here about fishing these areas. There seemed to be largies all over the place in stormwater drain off ponds. These folks used Google maps to find areas and found bass in them. For some reason threads were locked and a website was formed just dedicated to fishing urban storm run off sites. Good luck with trying this...
  5. For a lake so close to New York City it is fairly empty that day. That is a real fine New Jersey musky. Congrats
  6. Wow! That is an incredibly beautiful fish. Not many of the Kawartha strain get past 51.5 inches. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Congrats on a very successful day! Going out with a guide must have really shortened the learning curve. Enjoyed the reading,
  8. All those fish are amazing. The coho and brown are especially fine specimens. Thanks
  9. Despite disagreement The Gods here have spoken. No other opinion is worthy. Even if you have more experience. "Know your water, Know your prey" - Fishtracker HaHa Mike Reminds me of back in September of 1986 when i worked at private Oshawa Golf Club. Kenny Rogers was playing at the Oshawa Civic auditorium. He requested to play a round of golf at the Oshawa Golf Club but was denied because he wasn't a member. I thought maybe they thought he was going to floss/snag/fly fish the Oshawa creek that runs through there. After watching the video you provided, thinking now maybe they were scared of his potential behavior. lol
  10. Since that activity was improper, awesome that it was addressed. Was checked by the young CO in Legend a couple of summers ago on Head Lake. Mentioned that we noticed someone coming off lake with about 7lb. walleye. Way bigger than new slot limit. He mentioned he liked the quality of our tinner. Nice guy
  11. Ya, the season closes in about 11 days. Forget about going back and fishing out of season. Most of the page views are probably repeat visits maybe 3 or 4 groups of anglers will visit a lake mentioned. More than likely they will catch a few smallies and perch (like FishLogic), maybe a couple of splake. No reason to alarm. Never seen an increase in fishing pressure from a post. Then again i don't fish tribs. Hard work and time catches fish. Those that do well are usually good fishermen that are respectful. No needless worries.
  12. Sounds like a great day, with your daughter, Lew. That area of Pigeon is my fave. Wish i was up there as well, muskies will always be caught by you eventually.
  13. I am with you on this. You caught walleye on the St. Lawrence R. and someone was critical about this ...Geez... Hope they enjoy there 5 hr. drive. No location seem revealed to me. Starting about 6 or 7 yrs ago i would do GTA brookie reports without mentioning creek. Would get many, many PM's from people looking for location.i obliged thinking i would share info. Would fish there in weeks later and never saw a soul or tracks from anyone but deer. Even years later never saw a single person around this location. At least MJL was inspired by these posts, for local brookies, so my intention was met. So much for 'thousand of lurkers' maybe a few hundred looked at post, many were repeat visits. Whether it was multi-species winter Lake Ontario posts or Pigeon Lake musky never was there more traffic or increased fishing pressure because of my post. The idea of 'thousand of lurkers' is a myth. Look at your page views on post. Saw the walleye report in question. Congrats on good day. BTW my musky rod is MH musky not MH bass which was stolen from car 10 yrs ago or so.
  14. Ya that is why i said not sure. Was thinking about pinks but other salmon are sketchy. Would be nice to see truly scientific evidence supporting successful reproduction of Pacific salmonoids in Great Lakes.
  15. Since 'bows are also called 'steelheads' in spring, Maybe these less desirable chinnies of the fall should be called 'blackheads' Not sure any of these stocked Pacific salmonoids successfully spawn in southern Great Lakes anyways. Goes to show that chinooks will hit lures when in rivers. Looks like it was fun.
  16. Hey Rizzo, whenever someone does a report of big muskies from the Kawarthas i remember as much as possible. Like Meely catching 50 inch fish on jointed Believers a few summers ago on Pigeon. The way you describe trolling spinnerbaits reminds me of an article i read 15+ years ago about some dude trolling big spinnerbaits on the Ottawa R. He would go fast, slow down and zig-zag all around over bumps topping off at 15 ft. He made a living guiding people to big muskies using this technique. By the miracle of modern technology i was able to find that article on the internet. Like most anglers he stretches the truth (and fish size) but this is a good article saying exactly what you are. http://www.gordellis.com/muskie/content/muskie-articles/article/muskie-master-bill-craig I will try this method in future...
  17. After many, many years of fishing musky in the Kawarthas 46" is my best. I remember you caught a 48" last year as well. Very well done! You are doing something right.
  18. Usually apricots fruit in late spring/early summer but it was cloudy, cool spring. Nectarines just ripened perfectly now. My neighbour just picked plums from his trees which grew in clusters like you described. Great season for the later fruits.
  19. Nicely marked fish. You would think it would be tough fishing there with all the activity around.

    How big?

Dude is a powerlifter/bodybuilder so he is thick around as well. Caught this thick 43" a couple of years ago, it is hard to estimate length of muskies from pictures. Both were caught suspended over deep open water resulting in nice silvery, clear colouring. Cheers!

    How big?

Seems like a lot of muskies posted recently are measured long. This one i measured at 35". Thanks for your generous estimates however.
  22. That is quite the bounty there Jacques. Homemade apple pie is a must! I have an apricot and nectarine tree. The apricot barely produced this year but the nectarines were aplenty. Looked much like your tree there.
  23. Have fished Pigeon Lake for last 35 years or so as my parents had place up there. I remember counting 80+ boats north end of Big Island jigging/drfting walleye back 30+years ago on a Saturday evening. Now if there is half a dozen boats there it is incredible. People are usually jetskiing, wakeboarding/waterskiiing instead of fishing. The big difference up there has been zebra mussels clearing the water making smallies, muskies and other sight feeders more abundant and sending the walleye into depth of weeds for cover. Head Lake is the weirdest lake. I have never caught a panfish there. When i first was there got skunked. Tried to catch a sunfish or rock bass to get something but to no avail. Have caught decent smallies and walleye there and saw a 48" musky caught there but no largemouth ever.
  24. Great photos Bald eagles, huge brook trout and great scenery, that area can't be beat. Many thanks
