The zebra mussels have definitely changed the way of fishing on north Pigeon Lake where i frequent over last 20 yrs.
Sight feeders like musky and smallmouth have flourished there.
Walleyes that have more sensitive eyes are much deeper or are buried in weed growth.
Walleye catch frequency has dropped but larger ones are caught occasionally.
Caught my first crappie there about 20 yrs. ago.
Get a canoe and you will do much better there.
Caught some perch and sunfish and small largemouth.
Panfish maxed out at 8 inches and largemouth was about 12 inches. Small fish.
This river is in Wisconsin and flows into Lake Michigan.
Little murkier and less active today but saw usual walleyes and a pike.
A white sucker went slowly along bottom and posed in front of camera for a minute.
If was on a Kawarthas lake and had two choices of lure they would be,
Silver bladed black bucktail, and this perch Super Shad Rap.

Was checking out this link last couple of days. Nice walleyes and sturgeon.
Better view than last year.
Checked out the eagle cams as well but not much happening there.
Mike, have caught many musky on bass topwaters.
They are just snack size for them.
Never landed one on musky topwater (ie; Topraider, Jackpot, etc...)
Often went to set the hook and had big lure flying back at me.
Good Luck!
Musky spinnerbaits, bucktails, shallow minnowbaits no problems.
After numerous hits and muskies on over last 25 yrs. still haven't landed a topwater 'ski.
Gonna give this topwater musky thing top priority this year.
That is one of the most impressive displays of brookies from south-central Ontario have ever seen Shayne!
Thanks for taking the time to post 'em.
Oh yeah, the Subaru rocks.
I remember back 6-8 yrs. ago there was Niagara River get-togethers where not much was ever caught but you caught a real nice little tiger musky at the time. With the Kawarthas now being open later it should be easier to put 'skis in the boat.
Must be in the high 40's range, real nice.
I wondered if anyone took advantage of the later musky season in Kawarthas now.
That is pretty hardcore fishing
