  1. Got out of work at noon today figured i'd head down to Quinte just past Belleville for some ice fishing for walleyes. Had everything ready to go the sled, the sonar all my ice rods, jigs and spoons. I was quite excited knowing i'd get into some fish. I knew it would be windy and chilly but that was no big deal, so off we went. The 401 was open and the drive was uneventful and fast. Went past the spot where the horrific pile up was eastbound past Coburg, but still all was clear. Buddy then says 'look how dark it is ahead'. Next thing we were in near whiteout conditions, a few kms. past the accident sight. Saw a few cars spun out way over down ditches, soon we were doing about 40 km/hr. It just kept getting worse and worse, we were know doing about 20 km/hr This squall wasn't just going to be driven out of after a couple of km. It was getting evident that it stretched down the 401. Near Trenton it was obvious we had about 50 km still to go but at 20 km/hr it would take forever. The visibilty was ZERO, lots of cars off the road etc... So i decided to head back home westbound to Toronto on the 401. The drive home was more of the same except the squall was all the way now back to Bowmanville. I was disappointed by the long drive and lack of fishing, but super happy to be home in one piece after that. Certain moments out there were the scariest of my life. Driving blindly for a 100 km or so isn't fun. ehg
  2. Awesome report! Usually i'll leave a little after dark, maybe will stick around longer. I'm going to give it a shot Saturday evening down there. Thanks for update. cheers, ehg
  3. That is one huge bog perch! Nice report, ehg
  4. I was thinking the same thing about all Largemouth entries over 26 inches. Any pictures? But anyways, good to see Stan Sharp (fishinfool) in the walleye category. ehg
  5. Yup, looks like about 200 more posts to go. cheers, ehg
  6. I would concur. Found success in deeper water off Ceaserea using jigging raps tipped with small minnows at sunset in the past. Found Quinte to be better choice for walleye despite extra half hour drive. ehg
  7. Very nice report. The videos really are a nice addition. Thanks for post. cheers, ehg
  8. Looks like this site will hit the 20 million page view mark today. I remember posting about the 2 and 3 million mark seemingly not long ago. Kudos to the administrators etc... for this successsful site. ehg
  9. Been contemplating pike on quick strike rig at the Leslie spit for years. Maybe this year. Thanks for update! cheers, ehg

    Ice fishing

Likewise! Friendliest people are met on the ice. Also was the best oppurtunity to see the biggest walleye of your life. Simcoe by the Talbot R. was awesome, but now closes March 15th. Quinte still coughs up big ones. cheers, ehg
  12. Bickford park, one park south of Christie Pits, Lew. Those hills are pure ice not packing snow. Fast and fun. Looking forward to some ice fishing soon. cheers, ehg
  13. Just got in from morning of sledding. Jeez, its chilly here in Toronto. Hills are icy downtown, from back of the house. If this cold keeps up should be decent ice on Quinte or Cooks bay next weekend. cheers, ehg
  14. Good luck with all that! Two months ago I lost vision in left eye due to MS, slowly regaining sight however. Went fishing once since then and casted like crap. Soon you will be good to go. cheers, ehg
  15. The report on the 57" and 58" muskies brought into Marc Thorpes boat were pretty darn good! Also the report on all the other 50"+ muskies caught in his boat early this past summer wasn't shabby either. Might have totalled 10,000 page views between them. Snag's scottish salmon post was hilarous! As well as the little note from Crazyhook to ChrisS was pretty funny. You know what i'm taliking about CH cheers
  16. I've met the friendliest people of my life while ice fishing. Has a way of levelling the playing field for all. Also have caught all my PB walleyes ice fishing, 16 lber on Simcoe numerous 10 lb + fish on Quinte. Don't do it too much but like the ice fishing. Herc you need to get someone to take you out for successful perch on Simcoe or walleye from Quinte, through the ice and you'll dig it for sure. cheers, ehg
  17. Had the same 12 ft. Thornes for 25 yrs, till recently stolen. Very seaworthy lil' craft. Used it on Pigeon and even parts of L.Ontario. Best pic is in my avatar of me with sheepshead from March this year on L.Ontario cheers, ehg
  18. Bill, Thanks for the kudos. Was able to do some decent reports as the 12 footer allowed for access to places were there wasn't a decent launch nearby( T.O islands, Pickering outflow). No need for upgrade, 12 ft. is what i need. Ain't easy to find good used cartopper online as i'm finding out. cheers, ehg
  19. Hey Stan, You're right they'll need to bail alot. HAHAHA! Bought that boat and motor for 500 bucks with paper route money when i was 13 yrs.old around 25 yrs. ago. Maybe good for scrap, but i think some teens were trying to be gutsy to there peers. It's gonna be a pain in the butt trying to replace, it had a deep v-hull. Used on Pigeon all those years, and even on L.Ontario. No picture since it was sure no prize. Maybe Santa will be good to me. ehg
  20. Caught most species of freshwater sportfish in Ontario this year, no PB's however. This is probably the most interesting fish for me from this year. Spat up by a 12 inch brook trout. First time in 30 years i've seen a Rainbow Darter. Sign of a healthy Lake Ontario trib. ehg
  21. Had my 12 ft. tinny cartopper chained and locked to a tree in my buddy's backyard in downtown Toronto, well he went out the other day to find the chain cut and the boat gone. Luckily the motor was off and stored. It's surprising since the boat was obviously unappealing. That's life in the big city! Now i have to get a cheap 12 ft. V-hull cartopper soon. Actually might use it more in the winter months. C'est la vie, ehg
  22. Born in Montreal, then Oshawa for too long. Toronto since 1989. ehg
  23. I think that April is actually the worst month for fishing, unless your into carp or have a Great Lakes boat for spring salmon. Yup, musky closes province wide Dec. 15th. cheers, ehg
  24. You have found something most Canadian freshwater anglers would die for. Really awesome reports! cheers, ehg
  25. Last weekend was truly a tough time to get out to what little areas are still open. For sure more steelhead and BOQ reports to go, then the ice ehg
