All the channels were iced over at the islands as of March 21st (yesterday). One islander i spoke to yesterday said there is still up to 8 inches of ice in main channels. Could be gone by this weekend however! Remember pike season closes as of end of March 31 st. till May 5th. cheers, ehg

Well thats unfortunate now your stuck on shore PP. Had larger boats i trailered but have better accessibilty to some waters, without waiting at the launch, with a cartopper. Still can fish larger waters like Lake O or Quinte, just with caution. cheers, ehg

Tried around the foot of spadina for about half an hour after work and nearly froze in the wind and rain, so packed it in quickly. Obviously your perseverance paid off. WTG, ehg

Georgian Bay for the heaviest fish. This fish caught a couple years ago was only 53.5 inches long but weighed 63+lbs. Imagine a 58 inch GB fish that fed like that thing. St. Lawrence/ Ottawa R. around Montreal for longest fish. In the last 10 yrs. no place has produced more C&Red 58 inch to 60+ inch fish than this area. For some reason they don't get as bulky as the Georgian Bay fish. Even though the world record is supposedly a 67 lb. Cal Johnson fish, the only musky caught without any contraversy is the 65 lb Ken O'Brein fish from GB, that's the world record thus far IMHO. In the past i've read that Lac Seul have the most accelerated growth rates of musky, in the summer. To bad they have the long winters up there. Lake Ontario probably has a WR fish swimming in it now, but that's like finding a needle in 100 haystacks. cheers, ehg

Just a thanks to folks for PM's, links and advice. Ended up finding the exact boat i was looking for thanks to this post. Will be picking up the boat on Saturday. cheers, ehg

Sometimes in cottage country fishermen are busy being the 'provider', women might find that sexy. Otherwise hanging out in a boat with another dude fishing has the appeal of a lawn bowler. I don't wanna see 'Moobs' really! ehg

Thanks for the replies so far folks! I was unaware of Supershopper looks like a good link Fisherman. Looking for a 12ft. V-hull not a jon boat however, since i'll try larger waters occasionally. This helps quicken my search already. Time is of the essence, what with kids, job, and all. Thanks again, ehg

After about 4 months of searching craigslist, Kijijii. Star classifieds, etc... i still can't come up with a used 12ft. alum V-hull boat. Looking to cartop since living in downtown T.O leaves no room for trailer. Seems like many others are posting wanting the same thing. Anyways, contemplating just getting a new 12fter, so i'm curious if anyone knows of a boat place that has a selection of smaller fishing boats (even used boats) within an hour of GTA. Thanks in advance, ehg

Actually the pike season re-opens in Toronto on May 5th, the first Saturday in May. So no pike fishing in Quinte or Lake Ontario and adjacent waters April 1st to May 4th. cheers, ehg

Took these pics last year on May 31st. It was 39 Celcius that day! Warm weather is not far away. My 3 yr. old in awe of a chub. After fishing fairly hardcore for 25 yrs. i was in awe of this little rainbow darter coughed up by 13 in. brookie i had caught. First time seeing one! Out of a Durham trib. ehg

Trib fishing question...any trib fishing in the summer?
ehg replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
You could run into a large fish of different species near creeks mouths after most trout go back in the lake. You have to hit headwaters mostly for trout. There are still a bunch of little specks, browns and bows up there. Waders are a must., usually dense brush and no one to be found. Caught these fish last year between late May and late July, in eastern trib headwaters. Pleasant quiet waters half an hour north east of Toronto. -
Age of Earth- 4,500 million years Age of exposed Canadian shield- 3,000 million years Dinosaurs and jungles in Alberta area- 70 million years ago Maximum glacial coverage in Ontario (1 km thick)- 21,000 years ago First traces of human existance- 8,000 years Heavy industrialization- 150 years Cries of global warming (climate change)- 10 years It's true there has been a warming trend, but it sure does take away from poverty and general human explotation as political issues. Good fishing, ehg

Today on Simcoe ....the usual great day...

One of the most successful Simcoe ice reports this year. Nice going, ehg -
As a wee lad in Oshawa luckily the creek was 100 yds. from my house, the first steelhead i ever caught was caught on an orange jointed beno from the Oshawa Creek in 1977. That's 30 yrs. ago, musta been a versatile lure! This thread makes me feel kinda old. cheers, ehg

Thanks for the report. We will probably see a couple of more T.O pike reports before the season closes Mar. 31st. There are some big ones there in March like the one in my avatar. cheers, ehg

Don't know specifically what pictures you are looking for but saw these Newfie/Lab snow shovelling pics before.

Lac St.Louis Fishing Report.Marc,Mike,Roy
ehg replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Nice to get the kids out for a good day of fishing. Great report! I'm surprised that the St. Lawrence is seen as troubled after seeing amazing bass and muskie reports from there last summer. Again great report, ehg -
Like the video and the music is a laugh... Nice report! ehg

I've caught my 3 or 4 largest muskies on 3 inch jig/grub combo while walleye fishing. Had even bigger muskies i couldn't bring in while fishing for pickerel. Some of my largest bass have hit musky bucktails. This is one of my largest Kawartha walleyes which was caught trolling big jointed musky lure. ehg

I was thinking the same thing! Maybe they don't count in the tourney? Here is a nice pic of one.

Very nice pics. Thanks for posting. Ended up seeing some of the eclipse as well around 7 pm, in Toronto, through broken clouds. Good stuff, ehg

The practices outlined in the news link surely have to be controlled. If not 15 yrs. down the road the Credit will be nicknamed 'Little Ganges'. Kinda explains the coconuts in this picture i took last March of garbage on the Toronto lakeshore. Also a racoon carcass in there. Saw over a dozen coconuts there that day. The CVC spokesperson did say that, "Anything that is placed in the river that is not naturally found there has the potential to affect the health of the river." Like non- native browns ,chinooks, etc.... Anyways, the Don or Etobicoke creek are probably better choices for discarding expired items, from my uneducated enviromental viewpoint. ehg
