I think you are right Bucktail the old record was disqualified and this 22lb 9oz Bull Shoals walleye is now accepted. Interestingly the Ontario record fish was a 22lb 4 oz from the Niagara. Not much smaller. Personally i think there still is a world record walleye swimming in the lower niagara, L.Ont., and especially Lake Simcoe. ehg

This moon thing should be happening over next couple of hours if you can see through clouds. ehg
-
This will be a daylight event, coloring the moon copperish. The only March full moon is called 'Full Worm Moon'. ehg

Wouldn't pulling braids be better?

I concur! From 4:30 to 7 pm i was in a vehicle downtown going from Front/ Parliament to Dupont/Dufferin. Usually a 30 minute drive during rush hour became 2 and half hours. Every main intersection was gridlocked the worst being up University and Dupont from St. George. Same experiences with fancy cars spinning out and people being ultra timid. Still have the pain in my neck. ehg

I'll second the Cooper's Hawk guess. nice pic, ehg

Usually if i want to find a productive spot to ice fish on Simcoe or Quinte, i'll look for old ice holes with cig butts, urine and especially blood stains around them. Works for me. Thanks for post, ehg

In the late spring/ summer when all fish have an open season the fishing reports/ topics verge on overkill. But thats a good thing. This year the ice season was about a month behind leaving not much reports. Usually when people leave or stop posting they have personal non-fishing issues. Personally i miss the badgering and bickering of the first board when deleting posts was more difficult. cheers, ehg

The tourney thread doesn't show up on 'General Discussion' page i think people might be missing it. Hope to get out Sunday or so to start contributing. Seems laid back enough this year. cheers, ehg

You probably couldn't go wrong at either place. Bass and even pike usually hit topwaters on the many quiet bays of Kashawakamak on July evenings. There are some walleye a little deeper there as well. Good luck, ehg

Hey a rare report where someone rented a hut and nearly did some catching. Next time out you will get the fish landed. The finger thing is rough! ehg

Walking around Simcoe and drilling with a manual auger is a hardcore approach. You got some decent perch for your efforts. Nice report and pictures! ehg

Have been out on Simcoe many times in the last week of March. There's always a foot of ice even after a few days with temps in the teens. Maybe a little ice break up near popular shoreline access spots. You should have no worries. ehg

Thanks for update and tips. Ice fishing closes there on Feb. 28th. Very nice catch. Gotta love Quinte and the chance at a monster walleye. Good stuff, ehg

I think all the snow blew in my driveway Lew. We got lucky here in Toronto, not much snow really, no school closings etc... cheers, ehg

Thanks Camillj for that link explaining how the 'syndicate' gained control over the land and waters of Lake Scugog, south of Hwy 7. So the term 'navigable' was used only for people in transit not for use recreationally. The owners of that area law firm, Osler etc... still exist, and have the top pile of floors at First Canadian Place. I've worked for them. Very interesting read! Nothing is black n' white. Great post. ehg

Great report, looks like a good time was had and some bonus fish were caught. You left at the right time i'd guess. Went down there as well today after work. Didn't get on ice until 3:30ish stayed till 6:00 or so. No fish, some hits. The wind did get brutal, forcing me to constantly use the skimmer. Some pics of the wind This car was abandoned the whole time i was there. Great report again! Nice to see some fish caught. ehg

They say those squalls off Georgian Bay could continue for next 5 days. Maybe you could post snowpile pics eventually? Have fun digging out, ehg

Maybe once you decide on final location you could post directions. Might make trip down work pending. cheers, ehg

Brifishrgy, Since its your first trip down i'll give you a few tips and locations. A few locations that have ample parking and access include; The bottom of Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. south off 401 before Belleville. Walkway way out to green bouy about 18 ft. of water. Massassauga Pt. Conservation area south across Bay Bridge then east, follow signs. Also has good parking. Try about 20 ft. or deeper of water and watch the ice here because of currents. Further away could try Long Reach. south off 401 Marysvillle rd(49), across bridge take left on Rd. 35, go down to Quick short run rd. Try 20-25 ft. of water. Swedish pimples, Mr. champs tipped with emerald shiners produce best. Hit the bottom, pick up slack, then continue lifting spoon off the bottom, let it fall, repeat. Tightlines in Pickering , Brock Rd. just south off 401 eastbound has good emerald shiners on way down. Or try what others said about Belleville bait shops. Hope this hleps and good luck, ehg

Cooks Bay, Lake Simcoe Report Sunday Feb 4 2007
ehg replied to Clampet's topic in General Discussion
Getting your wife out in those conditions is the most incredible thing. You are right though the clothing is available to keep people warm. Nice video of the auger in action. Less than 19 seconds through 10 inches of ice is impresssive. cheers, ehg -
Went out this morning to check my minnow bag/box to find a solid 8" block of frozen minnows. Looks like i will be taking your advice Headhunter. I'll try Quinte again next, usually hook minnows through back off head on jigging spoon, so they die fast anyways. cheers, ehg

Sounds like it was a brutal weekend everywhere in Ontario. Good thing i turned around from your description DT10Sam. Anyways if anyone in around T.O needs a few dz. fresh emerald shiners i have some. PM me or heck i'll put them on your doorstep if your close, i'm around Little Italy. cheers, ehg

Judging from your avatar, i suspect i've met you. Your name wouldn't happen to be Grim Reaper would it? Welcome to this site, ehg

Thats the way it was Clampet! Especially with 18 wheelers still ripping by at high speeds within inches. Pulling over wasn't an option. 3hrs and a 100 km of driving the length of a squall wasn't expected today. The pictures don't do it justice. ehg
