  1. nope. I would have less charitable thoughts myself. wonder if insurance company's would accept photographs of equipment ?
  2. What a great day on the water there BB and you guys boated some very nice ones. btw, is the Genesee still a bit murky
  3. if only that were true mercman, if only...
  4. and don't forget the bug dope. The deer flies just love to follow you out into the middle of the lake whereupon they'll get their ounce of flesh
  5. Bummer, my vacation ends that weekend when everyone else shows up. Is anyone going to be there the weekend before ?
  6. Have a Campbell Hausfield from CTC and it's 'ok', too loud for my taste but the price was right. Also have a Gast which totally rocks. Quiet as all heck compared to the CH. Both are around 2 gallon though so no heavy lifting...
  7. sorry, was looking at it on an iPhone so not super accurate and the site was slow. Seems like one fire is southeast of Chandos Lake and the other close to Limerick. Scary is that one burn is basically on the French River just south of the North Channel. Hope everyone heading out this weekend doesn't get covered in smoke and that the rains forecast for same period, put them out.
  8. Well there are a couple of fires in the Kawarthas so would think the Park is probably under a similar ban.
  9. Wonder if Frabill make a cradle that size
  10. Beautiful light from the setting sun. Riverdale Park has one of the best views of the city doesn't it ?
  11. wow. they're so very lucky this was summer and not spring or fall. try this link... http://bit.ly/N3c0Zd
  12. Hopefully I won't have to resort to the 'hold the fish up close to the camera' trick lol
  13. whew, I was going to make a quick trip this weekend to Wolseley Bay but am going to the West Arm instead. Heard the bite is pretty good there so far, according to the bin of entrails in the fish hut
  14. You'd think that a modern boating gps unit with a chip would have a setting that would alert you to border proximity/impending prop busters etc..
  15. :clapping:
  16. JB's is a candy store. I'll say no more
  17. If you're looking for fly gear, there's Wilson's Fly Fishing at Queen and Sherbourne. Otherwise, you're looking forward to traffic...
  18. Mind that if you are going motorized, you may need an Inner Harbour License to run those waters. This may be out of date info so check around to be sure. The Toronto marine police are pretty active in those waters from what I remember.
  19. I can see it now. Put one of those squeeze toys on a fat treble, wait for pike to chomp down and you'll hear the squeek from across the lake lol. course it'll probably either drop the bait or gobble it up good
  20. agree with Lew, if you can manage this. There's a nice one in the classifieds here as well.
  21. The J stroke is super easy to learn. I use that or an underwater recovery stroke to keep me going. The J can be learned, kinda, at a demo day I would think, if the people running it are smart. I'm a canoe snob so don't think sponsons are good for learning how to keep the open side up They have their uses though so won't discount that.
  22. So she's comfortable paddling solo then I take it. A short canoe is going to require some skills to keep tracking straight but will be a joy to paddle heeled over to the gunwale. Should be a few choices out there, depending on $$.
  23. Might be an old thread but still worth updating. Agree about being aware about initial vs secondary stability. I'd go with secondary every time. Flat bottoms, while they may feel very secure to those not super comfortable in canoes, will not have the stability when things get anywhere near rough. It's either stable or not. Rounded v or shallow arched bottoms will feel tippier or less stable initially, but will, when the chips are down, be safer imo (assuming one does not grab the gunwales). It will roll, if you will, with the waves and water whereas a flat bottom will not. Get used to the shallow arch, stay loose in the hips and you won't miss the flat bottom. Also agree with going to demo days to try different canoes and designs.
  24. Will the hotel just be a place to sleep or do you want one with stuff close by ? I presume you're driving so I hafta ask how you like driving in downtown Toronto as there's some roadwork on Front St. not far from the dome. There are a multitude of hotels within short walking distance from the dome. The Hilton Garden Inn is up the road on Peter St. (and stone's throw from MEC), the Strathcona is beside the Royal York (Front University) etc etc..
  25. I've never fished it but Cache Lake is a beautiful paddle. Rock Lake would be a good place to find bass.
