Just to be clear on my Bolland statement... I would absolutely like to see him back, but as an UFA, why would he stay on this hornet's nest of a team? Management has had a history of not necessisarily making great decisions. I would think that he could land the same deal in a ton of other places and not have to deal with the circus that is Toronto. (And likely have a better chance at success as well!) HH

One game into the season and you have replaced that game with just about any game played last year and you wouldn't know the difference! Same inability to drive in runs a key times. Same mediocre pitching staff that will end up over-working a good bull pen. Same mediocre defense and nothing will change until Gibby is gone. Unfortunately by the time that happens, it will again be too late for this season. HH

Yes, there are some "questionable" guys playing in this curent leaf team and I think most fans know who they are... But, I think that the biggest challenge they face is a complete lack of leadership both off and on the ice. I'll take bets that Bolland is gone after this year and really, did we get anything out of him? I'm sure management had hoped he would fill that void, but obviously not. Dion is not a leader... end of story. It's gonna be a real challenge to get any free agents to come to the Leafs for obvious reasons. Trades are their only hope. Randy is not the problem... IMHO. I'm expecting the drought to last well into the 50 year mark. HH

Had a visitor on the weekend! Critter talk!
Headhunter replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
How'd you know about the hole in the fence!!!LOL It gets filled in pretty quickly in the spring, actually, you can hardly see the fence once the vegetation grows in. All the neighbours are aware at this point. Last year, one night in the summer, my neighbour had no less than 6 foxes chasing mice in his backyard! Cats and small dog owners have been given the heads up. HH -
With all the critter talk on here lately, I thought I'd post some pics of some recent visitors we have had here at the house. A week ago Saturday, I was making lunch for the family, frying up some bacon. I looked out our kitchen window and spotted two critters, standing on my frozen pool cover. Unfortunately, pics were taken with my wife's Ipad and frankly, I don't even know how to turn the danged thing on! That said, just this past Saturday, last morning I was out for a bit, but upon my return home, I hear that we had another visitor. Now this one appeared to be very healthy as opposed to the two the previous week, both exhibiting signs of mange... no hair on their tales, dirty mangy coats. This fellow however, seems to be doing well. AS I am on a ravine lot, here in Scarborough, we do have quite a few critters from time to time, but only really see the odd fox... these guys are new. Warned my neighbours to keep an eye out for their cats and small dogs... hopefully no one loses a pet! HH

Rare footage of Kathleen Wynne as a child.

That pic must have been taken shortly before the tractor ran over her face. HH -
If you haven't seen "The Butler", I highly recommend it. HH

That has to be one of the worst photoshops I've seen!!!! Her head is just a bit too big for the rest of her! HH

Anyone else notice that Captain Dion fled the ACC without speaking to anyone after the game the other night... not what I would call a leadership move on his part. HH

Mortgage Advice - Break and pay and sign at lower rate? = save?
Headhunter replied to Entropy's topic in General Discussion
Wait 6 months, then approach a number of lenders, letting them know that you are in the market for a long term mortgage. I bet some of them would be willing to absorb any fees attached to your current agreement, in order to secure your long term mortgage. (5 years). Most may have an issue with fees for a 12 month early renewal. And I agree with what others have said, any money you were willing to use to pay fees to get an early renewal would be better used to lower your principle as opposed to lining the banks pockets. Side note- I treat banks just like any other business that is getting my $$$. I want what I want and I let them know that I am more than willing to go elsewhere, with all my business should they not be able to meet my demands. Banks aren't doing me any favours, I am favouring them by giving them my business... I'm not saying that this is the case here, I just find too many people approaching banks on bended knee thinking they are doing me a favour... and we all know what happens when we bend over! HH -

I think Dion looks tired... he should probably take the next 7-8 years off to gain some strength back. Leadership in a team sport is hugely important and as the "leader" of this still very much young team, Dion looks to be completely inept and has for quite some time. He does not lead by example, he does not do the dirty work required to win and my biggest fear is that he is establishing a performance standard that the young guys are told to look up to. And to make matters worse, he's virtually un-tradable given his current contract. At this rate, there won't be any Canadian teams making the playoffs...ba ha! HH

As I said, I don't think that the hit was suspension worthy and I agree, both players made bad plays. Kessel's leg could only get hurt if he got in someone's by accident, cause he sure wouldn't do it on purpose! LOL HH

^So you would have preferred that he had a concusion, a broken neck or fractured skull? Matt, I find your posts highly entertaining and I have enouraged you in the past to continue as well; I find it funny, but I think you may want to re-think the above post. I agree that the hit is not suspension worthy, but it could have gone very badly and I would think that everyone would be pleased that he is not hurt... HH

Does anyone else notice that Reimer seems to be the last guy in the rink able to track rebounds? He always seems to be looking around trying to find the puck and many times, he's a day late and a dollar short. We need Bernie back asap if there is going to be any hope of a playoff spot. It wouldn't hurt if Dion got this head back in the game as well! HH

why are there so many part time jobs in Ontario
Headhunter replied to Oggie's topic in General Discussion
Well, as the owner of an employment agency, I could probabaly answer some of the questons being raised here... Employees are paid out of either operating or capital budgets. A full time employee is a recurring cost, who's costs are budgeted within the company's operating budget, unless and until that budget is amended, those costs are expected. Temp workers fall into a separate budget that is typically based on specific need, that is not expected to be long term. Sure, in many cases it does end up being long term, but that is typically not the intention initially. A company can expect a full time perm employee's "benefit package" to cost them in the neighbourhood of 10k annually. I many cases, much more. Temps typically don't have those costs associated with their positions. Letting go of perm full time employees is expensive, given the courts willinigness to pay out large sums with or without cause... Temp employees allows companies to ramp up production quickly, should busness require it, without the associated "costs" involved in a full time perm employee. Temp workers are also "the cost of doing business" and much of those costs become right offs for the employer. I know I'm just craping the surface of this topic, if you have any questions, let me know! HH -
This topic has been addressed in earlier threads. I would encourage anyone who is interested in getting more info on this topic, do a search in General Discussion. Just type in Nipissing while you are in General Discussion in the search field. There are a ton of threads that will result, my tip would be to seek out the threads that have multiple pages and you will find the info you seek. I would start on page six of the search results and then work further back. NFN will not take steps to eliminate cormorants will be just one tid bit of info you will find. Happy searchin! HH
-
Shag, if you type in "Nipissing" in the search bar at the top of the page, you will find a number of past threads on this topic. We even had a member of NFN (Nipissing First Nations) who is a member here, chime in with some inside/different perspective information. I would encourage you to have a look if for no other reason, than to gain more info/knowldge. HH

Ok, now that was funny! HH

Boy, that looks like a lot of fun... I'd join them right away if I could only find my phone! Reminds me of a trip to the ball game with the family last year... I look around the stadium so many folks have their head burried in their phone, they could have saved time and money by just sitting at home and watching the game on TV... HH

Come on guys, everyone know it's a "Pickereye"! HH
