  1. Good shootin byes! I have to admit that I find it hard to believe that you guys were on Terry's boat and nothing got broken!!!!!!! LOL HH
  2. Well, I had Floro on my spinning outfit for a couple of years. i used it all year round (Seagar sp) and as cold as -30. I never had a problem with it. It might have been that it was 6lb test and therefore more "subtle" then the thicker stuff, but it worked great for me. HH
  3. This is taken from an old cormorant thread for this site, years ago... Cormorant Recipe Having shot your cormorant, hold it well away from you as you carry it home; these birds are exceedingly verminous and the lice are said to be not entirely host-specific. Hang up by the feet with a piece of wire, soak in petrol and set on fire. This treatment both removes most of the feathers and kills the lice. When the smoke has cleared away, take the cormorant down and cut off the beak. Send this to the local Conservancy Board who, if you are in the right area, will give you 3/6d or sometimes 5/- for it. Bury the carcase, preferably in a light sandy soil, and leave it there for a fortnight. This is said to improve the flavour by removing, in part at least, the taste of rotting fish. Dig up and skin and draw the bird. Place in a strong salt and water solution and soak for 48 hours. Remove, dry, stuff with whole, unpeeled onions: the onion skins are supposed to bleach the meat to a small extent, so that it is very dark brown instead of being entirely black. Simmer gently in seawater, to which two tablespoons of chloride of lime have been added, for six hours. This has a further tenderising effect. Take out of the water and allow to dry, meanwhile mixing up a stiff paste of methylated spirit and curry powder. Spread this mixture liberally over the breast of the bird. Finally roast in a very hot oven for three hours. The result is unbelievable. Throw it away. Not even a starving vulture would eat it. Why would you let your dog? HH
  4. These guys are nuts! Admirable job, but still flippin nuts! HH
  5. it an annual rite of spring, Joe vs the Robins. They like to nest on the under the decking of my main floor deck. They have been doing this since I moved in 9 years ago. They can build it pretty quickly, to the point where I have to check and destroy daily. It's not the nest itself that is bothersome, it's the mess they leave within a 10 foot radius of the nest. HH
  6. My former boss had a place on Kashabog (sp). They were robbed/broken into on a regular basis. The OPP described the theives as "mom and pop Kettle out doing their grocery and small appliance shopping. They stole food, small appliances, anything they could easily carry out of the cottage. OPP "promised" to keep a closer eye on things, well you can imagine how that went! They eventually put in a security system, that would alert them at there home in Toronto should anyone be breaking in. The darn thing went off so many times, it was nuts. They eventually sold off the cottage, too much worry and driving 2 hours back and forth, every time the alarm went off. Cops were sure it was always the same people as they would come back after some following their initial break in, to scoup up all the new things that insurance replaced. OP, I wish you luck. HH
  7. Long term forecast is calling for cooler than normal and rain until at least the middle of the month. I have a trib of Highland creek going through my backyard and it has been roaring for a couple of days now. Pretty darn soggy out there. HH
  8. Well, we have one Canadian team left, let's go you oil!!!!!! HH
  9. Simon, did you train Rolloff to shake the water off himself away from you? My dog would run up right beside me and shake! Still laugh out loud watching this! HH
  10. Yah, as an owner of a Lab, I kept thinking that it was my dog out there chasing the ball, which he would do all day! I think I'll re-watch it as my day hasn't been the best so far, but that video will help a lot! Thanks again Simon! HH
  11. Simon, the first time I watched that I was laughing so hard, I had to go back and watch it again! That has to be one of the funniest things I have seen! I felt like a passenger on the trips out and back and yah, when Rolloff shook the water off his back, tears! Thanks so much for sharing this! Hysterical! HH
  12. Nice Brian. I know this means a lot to you and I am very happy for you both. HH
  13. I think Babs is going to use this as a learning lesson and will have the team where he needs them for tomorrow night. I thought the ice in Washington was way worse than the ACC. HH
  14. I was sitting in the end red seats. For one period, the Leafs goal was in our end. I don't need to re-watch anything, I saw it with my own eyes. And I saw things that folks at home missed when the camera followed the play. Bill, I am not singling out Zietsev, I agree the whole team played poorly for most of the game, but some stuck out more than others and Zietsev looked out of place and a few moments late all night. Soft as well! HH
  15. From my view point, it wasn't the ice. They were out of sink. Passes just out of reach that last game were tape to tape. They got out worked and out skated for most of the night. They didn't look like a team that wanted to win, they looked like a team that thought they would use their talent to win vs their proven winning method, out skate and out work. Bill, normally I would agree about not sitting a defenceman, but Zietsev was a liability all night. I don't know what his +/- is, but he looked soft, scaredand unwilling to get dirty. Playoffs are dirty. HH
  16. It looked from my seat like the Leaf's thought that the Caps were going to mail it in, right from the puck drop. Both goalies looked awful, the Leaf's D were fighting the puck all night and frankly, it looked like the Leaf's were going through the motions. It wasn't until the Matthews goal, that we saw the real Leafs. Alas, it was too late. Babs will have their heads back on straight for Friday's game. I would sit Zietsev, he just looks lost out there. Four beers plus tip... $70.00! We did get a "free" 100 year Leaf's towel and a Leaf's car flag though... HH
  17. Not the first person to tell me that! HH
  18. Buddy called me yesterday... i am off to the game tonight! Go LEAFS GO!!! Gonna be hard to get any work done tomorrow as I am pretty sure I will lose my voice tonight. The wife will be happy! HH
  19. Correct me if I am wrong, but if I recall the pic correctly, the fish had grass and leaves all over it. Not the best plan of attack for safe release of the fish. HH
  20. Thursday's game had numbers in the 2 mill range and Saturday's numbers were approaching 3 mill. So, numbers similar to Blue Jays although I expect them to keep on rising as the the fortunes of the team rise. HH
  21. Well, United thought he was special! Special enough to be asked off the plane. I have been bumped, once leaving Toronto and once they attempted to bump my wife and I in Paris. We were lucky that a group of high school kids (25) were on the same flight and volunteered to stay a day in Paris, all compted. Came close to getting arrested at the airport, armed cops and all, but we got our flight and we both made it to work the next day. I agree that the "victim" acted like a spoiled child, but I don't agree with airlines' bumping policies. HH
  22. Lew, load that thing up and hit a local antique dealer and pay for an evaluation. That way you will be pretty sure as to it's value and you and the potential buyer can avoid buyer/seller remorse. Make a morning of it and take you lovely wife out for breakfast! HH
  23. I believe the old saying goes something like this... "No good deed goes unpunished". HH
  24. As always Simon, I enjoy watching you and Roloff catch fish! Pretty far from boring and I couldn't find a political thread! LOL Perhaps a quick check of the jig and a brush by with a honing stone, would get you more hook ups? Either way, colour me jealous! HH
  25. OV, no shots after the first period. not sure what happens to him in the playoffs, but he disappeared as he usually does in the playoffs and international play. Still would like to see someone nail him to the boards, but unlikely as he hardly ever gets into dirty places as he flys by looking for the one timer. HH
