  1. The reason for the recent drastic rise in the number of diagnosed Autism cases is the result of new guidelines outlining what falls under the Autism spectrum. Until recently, the spectrum of disabilities was limited. These new guidelines have expanded who qualifies as being Autistic. With more kids/people qualifiying, we have a huge spike in numbers. The government should be ashamed of themselves, for spending our money, to hide the truth from us! Just another example of how they work for themselves and not us! HH
  2. I'd like to thank everyone for their responses and more than anything, for keeping the discussion civil and respectful! Some very interesting points being made and I think it's a very useful discussion... getting people to think! HH
  3. I know I may be sticking myt neck out here, but I couldn't resist posting this to see what opinions you folks may have. Here's an article I found - don't lambaste me... I didn't write it! Also, I have not expressed an opinion on this publically, just looking for your thoughts! Debunking global warming myths By LICIA CORBELLA CALGARY SUN The British documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle is, well ... great. The program, which aired last Thursday in the U.K. to much buzz, has since been watched by hundreds of thousands of others around the world via the Internet. It exposes numerous lies and myths presented as fact by those who believe in the unproven hypothesis that human-created carbon dioxide (CO2) is the driver of the Earth's warming climate. The same broadcaster -- Channel 4 in the U.K. -- that recently exposed the extremist ideology being preached in Britain's supposedly "moderate" mosques has now similarly helped to tear away the veil of lies and religious zeal surrounding the global warming industry. The film features an impressive group of experts in the fields of climatology, oceanography, biogeography, meteorology, and paleoclimatology from reputable institutions such as NASA, MIT, The International Arctic Research Centre, the Pasteur Institut in Paris, the Danish National Space Center and the Universities of Winnipeg, Ottawa, London, Jerusalem, Alabama and Virginia. That should help top the claims there is a consensus of scientists who believe in man-made global warming. Expert after expert in this film blasts craters into the theory that CO2 -- which only makes up 0.054% of the earth's atmosphere -- has ever driven climate. Ice core records, in fact, prove the opposite, that CO2 lags warming by as much as 800 years. The main cause of warming is, not surprisingly, the sun. "The analogy I use," says Dr. Tim Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg, "is my car's not running very well, so I'm going to ignore the engine, which is the sun, and I'm going to ignore the transmission, which is the water vapour and I'm going to look at one nut on the right rear wheel which is the human produced CO2. The science is that bad." The film starts off covering indisputable facts. There was a Medieval Warm Period that was warmer than today -- that led to incredible wealth in Europe when the bulk of the continent's great cathedrals were built and when Britain had thriving vineyards. Then came the Little Ice Age that started in the 17th century and was so cold London's Thames River would freeze so solidly festivals were held on it. About 10,000 years ago, during a time known as the Holocene Maximum, it was much warmer even than the Medieval times. Dr. Ian Clark, Prof. of Isotope Hydrogeology and Paleoclimatology at the U of Ottawa, notes polar bears (which have become the poster-animal of the global warming industry) survived that sustained warm cycle and that volcanoes produce more CO2 every year than all human activity. What's more, prior to 1940 temperatures on Earth were rising long before industrialization took place. Then, when carbon dioxide emissions rose markedly in the post-war economic boom period, temperatures fell for the next three decades, again, in direct contravention of the theory being espoused and believed by so many. Ironically, in the 1970s, just as scientists started predicting another climate catastrophe -- an impending ice age -- the planet started warming again. The documentary ends with a quote from Dr. Fred Singer of the U of Virginia. "There will still be people who believe this is the end of the world, particularly when you have, for example, the chief scientist of the U.K. telling people that by the end of the century the only habitable place on the Earth with be the Antarctic and humanity may survive thanks to some breeding couples who move to the Antarctic. I mean, this is hilarious," he says with a chuckle. "It would be hilarious, actually, if it weren't so sad." See the film at: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog?entry=24760&only HH
  4. Hey Dutch, not to be argumentative or anything, but your statement does prove my point! Technically you own your land, but if a level of governemnt, provincial or federal, as you stated can appropriate your land for their use, then to my mind, it's only a "paper ownership". Decisions regarding the future of that land are not necessarily the owners. Here's what I mean; If I buy a car, I'm considered the owner and noone can tell me where I can drive it. As long as I follow the laws of the road and make my payments, it's mine! If I buy a house and shortly after the government comes in and tells me they are putting a road through my front lawn, I have to sell... that to me anyway does not constitute "ownership"! It's fubar as far as I'm concerned... just one of many things that annoy me... sorry for the hijack and absolutely no confrontation intended, I appreciate the info you provided. HH
  5. Fishin in Methane would be fun, until the first guy goes to light a smoke! HH
  6. A little off- topic but... it's my understanding that as a home owner you are just that! The Municipality owns the land your house is on, not the home owner! That's how they can take it away from you for a highway or airport etc... You own the structure, not the land. Now with regard to the posted question, that's a problem I'd like to have! I currently have a mutual drive, which we agree to keep mutually available and I don't have a boat. Most people are fairly easy to get along with. I've found that if you give a bit, you'll get a whole lot back in return. Take'm fishin, there's always the old "rogue wave" story about how he fell over board when your back was turned! HH
  7. Welcome to the board! Great into and I'm most impressed that you spelled "inquisitiveness" correctly!LOL Hope you have a long and productive stay! HH
  8. It went down!!!! I thought I was having the big one "Elizabeth!!!" Cold sweat as I started to think I may have to do some work today! Thank goodness it was a short time! HH
  9. I believe that Lew is correct, they can be found at CTC! Black, well that may be a harder find! HH
  10. Hey great boat! The only thing I've heard about the Tundra's is to keep an eye on the transom. They had a problem with the transoms cracking on the bigger models, but mostly from guys who are tournament guys runnin full speed across 3 and 4 footers trying to get back in time for weigh in! If you watch what your doing and use common sense, you have no problems at all! If you can find a way to do it, I'd reccommend looking at a Lowrance as an alternative to the humminbird. HH
  11. Congrats on your purchase, you'll be happy with that combo for a long time to come.... now, the fly in the ointment.... what line ya gonna spool that reel with?!LOL HH
  12. Great fish and report! Too bad you had to "white out" the background shot!!!! HH
  13. WOW! Thanks Gary! Incredible video! I really like the enthusiasm the driver has for his exploits! HH
  14. If your in the Toronto area, there is a shop on Queen Street, north side, just east of Parliament that is an antique tackle shop. Now, I've never been in, but is would suspect that they could give a good idea about pricing, rarity etc... Hope this helps? HH
  15. Opps! double post!
  16. Thanks for the kind words everyone! I simply put an old friend and a relatively new friend (Gerritt) together! My old friend had a real need for some help and I saw Gerritt as a good fit! Best of luck Gerritt... Marcus is a great guy and I'm sure you'll enjoy working for him! HH
  17. Guys, don't get me wrong, I like my Convector! I simply don't put the hours on a reel that others do. I was only relateing a friends experience, a friend who puts alot more hours on the water than I. The over size handles on the Convector are great! I really wish that Diawa would put bigger handles on their line counters. I felt I would not be doing H.G. any favours if I did not pass along what I've learned and heard from a very reliable source. Good luck on your purchases HG! Regardless of what you end up buying, you'll have fun! HH PS... Tightlines in Pickering had the best prices I found, when I was looking last year! Beat BPS by about $20.00.
  18. Interesting Fishmaster... not to steal away from the thread... I have a buddy who charters and he bought 4 Okuma's this year and only two are still working today! The worm gear on both are toast. He has Sealines he's been using for 12 years that are still working to this day! I've caught many salmon on my Sealine! Everyone has their own experiences and loyalties and I for one am very happy to hear everyone's experience! HH
  19. I agree, the Diawa Heartland is also a good alternative. I can't agree with the earlier reply regarding the Okuma's! They just don't last as long as the Diawa Sealine. Gear problems are their down fall... althought admittedly, I really do like the extra large handles on the Okuma... for the money, I'd just pony up another $30.00 and get the Sealine! HH
  20. Very cool video. I wonder if a pilot of a real b29 would be inclined to do some of the stunts these guys did, like fly up-side down and inverted rolls! HH
  21. My wife is a city girl through and through! The first time I took her fishin, we were on the French, near Alban, renting a cottage from Moonlight Bay Camp. (18 Mile Island area). I took her to a small bay, loaded her rod with a jig, a worm and a bobber and told her to keep a close eye on the bobber and if it moved to set the hook and reel it in. Well the sunfish, perch and rockies were very cooperative that day, unfortunately for them, my wife didn't pay very much attention to her bobber and the fish almost always swallowed the hook! She got very up-set that she was hurting the fish (and feeding seagulls) and we both decided shortly there after that she should concentrate on what made her happiest... holding the front of the boat down, reading a book and catchin some rays! Since that time, I've had the pleasure of the having the best looking balast of any boat in the water! She doesn't fish, but gets a real kick outta watching me catch fish and spending time on the water, enjoying what mother nature has provided! Sure does love to eat'em to! HH
  22. Not the Ugly Stick but... Shimano TDR 1801 - eight foot heavy action - for dipsey's and in-line planner boards... BPS had them on sale for $26.99 around Xmas and they can be bought for under $50.00 on any given day. It'll do everything you want and not break the bank and will match up with that Sealine very well! HH
  23. Somewhat related to the topic... two years ago I got a phone call from an insurance company asking me about purchasing life insurance. They seemed to know an aweful lot about me so I asked them where they got my personal information from? The told me they had a business relationship with Direct Energy and had all of D/E's customer info! I freaked!!!!! I called the Privacy Commisioner in Ottawa, who in turn, asked me to document the situation and they would follow up. I did and about 6 months later, I received a letter from them stating the following; Direct Energy had put a "flyer" in my bill envelope which indicated that they were going to do this and if I didn't want my information shared with another company, I WOULD HAVE TO SEND BACK A COMPLETED FORM to them, to stop the swapping of info! Apparently, like Ted Rogers negative billing scam, it's incumbant upon the customer to say no! Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I can't remember the last time I looked at all the junk mail that comes with so many of my bills!!!?? Anyway, as a result of my letter and the ensuing investigation, my name has been removed from the list, but I don't think that there have been any changes to the way D/E does business! Privacy is a huge concern these days, be sure you know what and who you are signing up for and always look at the junk in the evelopes. You could be signing up for something by not responding! HH
  24. Awesome! HH
  25. Very interesting read! Thanks for posting. I think I know some people who could learn a thing or two from these trout! HH
