There are places you can fish where you can generally get out of the bad stuff... that being said, better to be safe, then sorry. Bring extra gloves, hats, socks... what ever you need to keep warm. Also, at the end of the day, don't forget to turn your float suite inside out and allow it to dry over night or you'll be getting into a cold damp suit the next morning! Also remove the liners from your boats and allow them to dry out over night. HH

The best coffee I've ever had was in Spain. Actually, they don't sell coffee like we do here, everything is basically a Cappuccino! Very strong and very tasty. After drinking that stuff, I found it very difficult to drink the "dirty water" most establishments serve here. HH

Well, here we go again! I have been using mono with my boards for at least 12 years. I like the way that mono stretch and imparts action on your board and in turn, your bait. I also like the fact that mono will stretch and act as a shock absorber when a big wet sock hits it hard. As well, when fighting said sock, it's considerably more forgiving then no stretch. I've been watching many Quinte reports over the years and it seems to me that a lot of talk about going 6 for 10 or 8 for 12, but those folks are losing way to many fish, IMHO. I think it can be attributed to a number of things; -not paying close enough attention to their rods/boards -hooks not sharp enough -using no stretch with boards. Unless you have a very soft tip rod, your gonna pull the hooks out of too many fish (1 is too many fish in my book!LOL) since most will continue trolling while fighting a fish. It aint complicated, simple is always better. The vast majority of the fish caught this time of year will at least be over 5 lbs... you won't have a problem identifying whether or not you have a fish on. Now if you were fishing in the spring, no-stretch will definately help you identify a 1 or 2lber being dragged behind your boat!LOL KISS has always worked for me! HH

Zib, I hope this thread helps you in your decision making process, it looks like there's some good info here, however as already mentioned, I just don't get why trout threads go south so fast? Every time I consider taking up trout fishing and learning more and or asking questions, threads like these make me give my head a shake! I'll stick to the Picker-eyes! Picker-eyes fisherman just don't get all that hung up on stuff, just to catch a 4lb fish!LOL HH

I have a two piece set up, Mustang bomber jacket and Buoy o bouy bib pants. I purposefully bought over size bib pants and am very happy with the set up. I get plenty of flexibility with the 2 piece, the bib goes almost to my collar bone so my back stays warm. I checked the Mustang site re survival times, 1 piece vs 2 piece and yes, the one piece will keep you alive longer, but not much. CLiff, check out Cabella's for pricing. As I may be in a boat with Gerritt one day out of the two and would really like to help him put a double digit in the boat. As G's boat is smaller then some, we may have to work smaller water and I was hoping that Picton Bay would be a viable option. Thanks again! HH

The largest pickeral in virtually any body of water will always be open water suspended fish. They will spend their lives following schools of bait where ever that may be. Yes you can catch resident fish jiggin Thompson's point or any other point that has easy deep water access... but if your wanting to catch a trophy Quinte Picker-eye, trolling will net you more consistent results. The pickeral-eyes arriving from Lake Ontario are following the schools of bait into the bay and gorging themselves. As an opportunistic creature, they will attach an easy meal, resembling their prey. Using blades (worm harnesses) will catch fish, however, due to the slower speeds these baits require, you will restrict the amount of water covered and therefore lower your chance of encountering schools of feeding fish. You also will have to contend with more "garbage fish" as they will attach a worm harness every time. If you happen to follow the PWT, you would know that virtually 100% of the pro's troll first, second or third, as their options for catchin fish. There is a reason. Gerritt, if you want to catch some eaters during the GTG, I can help! But if you want to catch a PB, leave the jiggin rod on shore during the day, cover a lot of water trolling, seeking active fish and you will be rewarded. FYI - fall trolling speeds on Quinte start at 1.5 mph and you will catch them up to 5mph as well. The key is to cover as much water as possible, to find active fish. I've caught fish down as deep as 40ft on Quinte and it has not been an issue with survival as in order to get the bait down that deep, you will have atleast 200ft of line out. If you take your time, they will be fine. It also help is you slow the boat down, so you are doing less draggin of the fish. In the last two to three years, I have found Dipsey's to be a challenge in securing fish. I really believe that these open water fish are extremely boat shy and as such, the dipesy is just not gettin the lure far enough away from the boat. Lead Core off in-line planer boards and long line boards, far away from the boat should serve well. Also, many folks concentrate mainly on deep fish... early in the day, any day that has a two foot chop or more as well as cloudy days, consider the top 15-20 feet of water to be a potentially active area. You won't see the Picker-eyes on your graph, but you may/will see the bait up high... another option for yah. Just be aware that if you get a double digit picker-eye hit your bait with only 40-80 ft of line out behind the board, you will not have any problems knowing whether there's a fish on that line!LOL Actually, watching them slam a shallow running bait is exhilarating ... "someone grab that rod before it breaks the holder" HH

I got real lucky when I moved to my new house and found a barber, yes a barber to cut my hair! I don't want loud music, I don't want gle in my hair, I don't want some young floozy, dangling her bosoms over my face while she washes my hair... hold on a minute, maybe I do!LOL Jimmy is his name and he cuts all the hair you need cut, without being told!
