  1. Great explanation carpstarter. That is the best I have read or heard and the picture really helps. Kind of like the "A,B,C's" of it all.
  2. First time I ever saw a windfarm was in southern California 1989. Pretty neat sight, come along the highway and round a hill and there were hundreds of windmills on the hill sides. I didn't look at it as an eyesore but something really neat and unexpected to see. No more of an eyesore than the CN Tower is or any other man made structure that blights the earth. If we can capture the wind and harness it why not? Hell of a lot better than nuclear or coal generated electricity.
  3. It's not only Chrysler giving away a truck. It all started with a Kia dealer down in the States. I owned a Dodge Royal Monaco years ago. A guy at work told me I had to be a masochist to own one. Guess if you were to buy 2 new Dodges you would be really sick, at least according to him.
  4. Born Hamilton/Stoney Creek. Father moved us to South Florida when I was the age I was in the picture here. Back to Hamilton. Raised and lived most of my life in Burlington. Now in Hamilton.
  5. Lay a picture on your plate, pour ketchup on it and enjoy. Non toxic... Naw, the paint balls are made in China and contain lead.
  6. Hope it's a good one Lew Happy B Day!
  7. Well actually we who live in the "Armpit of Canada" AKA Hamilton often relish in fine snow free weather while all of our neighbours around us are digging out of that awful white stuff. We watch the local news and see Buffalo, Barrie, London digging out of a blizzard and we are basking in sunshine gently filtered by pollution. Now with all that said we are to get about 4 cm tomorrow and we do get hit extremely hard if there happens to be a Nor'easter brewing over Lake Ontario. So far this year those of us lower city dwellers (including Burlington) have only seen a stray flake or two... so far.
  8. Knew it would come to this eventually, it all began with the seatbelt law years ago. Not that I'm against safety and prevention as I do wear my belt but the invasion continues and will do so until we are so over burdened by rules that we will become a police state. Now a question: How many of us have noticed that whenever someone is being dumb behind the wheel they are usually screwing around with a cell phone? Solopaddler; I'm glad to hear all are fine after the accident.
  9. Why haven't you phoned or gone back to Crappy Tire to rant? After you do it will be interesting to read about the results. I would have done that before making a post about it and then posted your epic as a warning about getting scammed.
  10. Does anyone ever consider why some non-union companies are decent employers? Ever think that perhaps it is a way to keep the union out? Just a thought as anyone from the Hammer knows, Stelco was unionized after a long nasty fight in the 1940's, Dofasco the other steel giant down the street remained non union and did treat their employees with respect and fairly. Why? Some around here say it was their way to keep out the United Steelworkers and others say because Stelco management were cruel while their counterparts had respect. But then it is all history now, US Steel = Stelco and Dofasco is Mittel. Oh well. I really don't think the unions are the culprit when it comes to the North American auto industrie's troubles. Everything goes boom and bust and this could be it's turn to go bust. And as for Canadian built vehicles, some the Toyotas and Hondas are built here in Ontario. These cars are more Canadian than some of the N. American vehicles that many of us are driving. IMHO. Cheers to all.
  11. Don't know who wrote it except that he signed it Larry. Wonder if it's Larry from Vermont, you know the guy, has 2 brothers, his brother Daryl and his other brother Daryl.
  12. Just got this in an email from a good friend, thought I'd post for all. Apparently it's hanging in a Canadian bar somewhere.
  13. Yes sadly that is mostly true. However, my mother's next door neighbour was broken into on a Sunday afternoon about 2 weeks ago. They went through her basement window and stole some jewelry. Two neighbours described the 2 that did the deed and they were caught. Four houses in the neighbourhood were broken into that Sunday afternoon. They apparently went door to door to the houses without a car in the driveway, if someone answered the door they just asked if so and so (name) was home and then would walk away after being told you have the wrong house. Finger prints and witnesses must have helped to apprehend them. Unfortunately since they were 13 and 15 years old they will probably just get a slap on the hand and treat the whole incident as a joke. BTW Mattones, this was in Burlington. Sorry to hear about your car, hopefully your report will assist the police Oh yeah, the neighbour luckily got her jewelry returned
  14. I'm feeling much sorrow for his family just as many of us are. It is a sad day indeed. However, I can't get over how quickly some jump all over a comment. I didn't see any blame in Fishinfor autographs comment. He was merely stating what was the reason for this boy to leave home and as he later explained it is such a trivial matter with such a horrible outcome that is hard to fathom a reason as to why. May he rest comfortably and my wishes that his friends and family will soon find peace in their thoughts.
  15. Why can't they get over the dam? There is a ladder around the other side of the island. Although built for walleye wouldn't other species use it? Dunnville fishway
  16. For Wimmins anyway.
  17. Knew a guy about 10 years ago, tried crossing at Detroit one day, didn't get through, rejected by the customs agent. His criminal charge was something to do with drugs. He never said to me what the charge had been but he was found guilty of it many years before so whatever it was the Yanks didn't want him on their land. Better get everything all cleared before you make arrangements to go, no point in booking anything only to be rejected.
  18. Guess your son thought he was catfishing Bad, I know, couldn't resist. Glad to hear the cat's OK.
  19. Where'd ya catch the tuna? But seriously, sounds good!
  20. You hit it on the head Bigugli. I really thought that people would get it when it was driven into our heads at young ages by doing clean ups around the town. Hopefully though it sunk into a few people and they have remembered what it was like to clean up after others. Good idea on the charity.
  21. The guys are right on the mark. Also as a footnote, if you are flying from Buffalo, or whatever US airport to another US destination you don't need a passport to fly. It's only needed if you are flying into the States.
  22. Looks like some of you are just as thick between the ears if you can't see the sarcasm in my comment. Guess some don't see sarcasm or irony as humour. Lighten up will ya! Geesh! Oh well... at least I added a couple of logs to the fire. I don't agree with fees, but then again maybe the idiots that leave a mess behind everywhere they go will wake up when they are hit in the wallet. I see this problem anywhere I go. It doesn't matter if it is public property, a private park or boat launch, people just don't give a damn! If I had a nickel for every Tim Horton's cup left behind on a store shelf, park, sidewalk or fishing area that I've picked up. Maybe I am pretty thick between the ears because I honestly thought that all those class trips we made back in grade school to pick up garbage around Burlington, the times my son went out on the same missions when he was in grade school or the kids groups I myself led in the townhouse complex where we used to live to pick up litter would make a difference in peoples conscience. Guess I was wrong. There are still too many slobs around. I also heard a couple of years ago that the school litter clean up days ended because some "parent" didn't feel their kid should be picking up trash. WTH!
  23. Tried the lower on Monday. Didn't try just below the dam but there were quite a few boats anchored there. Didn't see anyone hitting anything in the rest of the lower including the 3 of us in my boat. The parking lot on the Dunnville upper river boat launch was overflowing with trailers. Looked like that stretch of river must have been crowded with hopeful fishermen and ladies. Good luck tomorrow and think of me at work.
  24. So then, I am concluding from all this conversation that this $40 fee is basically a trash clean up charge. OK, fill up the pick up with all your junk, pay the 40 bucks and dispose of your garbage. Pretty cheap dumping fee I'd say. That would teach them a lesson!
  25. Wanted to head there today but a toothache has stopped me in my tracks and will be spending some time at the dentist instead One day off and look what happens. Looks like you guys had a great day. Congratulations
