  1. Was cleaning the garage today and found this old paddle (pics below) It was found by my daughter and I a few years ago. We recovered it from the bottom of the Scugog river. We were fishing and spotted it on the river bed, It was covered with green slime and zebra muscles. I dragged it home much to the disapproval of my wife lol. Anyway any thoughts or do you know anyone who might know much about paddles? I assume its of no significance but who knows, worste case it makes a cool wall mount. Sorry pics aren't great

  9. off hwy28 turn onto #2 head across to the stop sign, turn right on wood duck dr, decent concrete launch, you'll have to park a lil way back up the roadside.
  10. i love power pro slick 8 .....sounds like line twist or retrieving slack line? my wife and kids tend to do this often on spinning gear keep an eye out you get that one loop pop off then reel line over top of it and all hell can break loose. the next cast will"grab the loop and pull more line off, you end up with 2 ends coming off the spool at a time, most cases you can unwind it easily some times not so easy
  11. ha...this spring trolling a worn harness for walleye!! I got 2 LMB, one on each hook. I never seen it myself before that lol My daughter had given up until that point and started fishing again and got a 16 inch eye right after.
  12. Oh and i thought this was another fries and gravy thread

  14. Mid last week I got a chance to take my brother in-law out for an evening of bass fishing, He showed up with a brand new Spinning rod spooled it up with brand new line, I grabbed an extra bait caster outa the garage, and off we went. We only fished a short time when he decided he wanted to use a bait caster with spinner bait, I gave him the extra that i brought. he isn't that experienced with the bait caster but I past him my Lew's and told him to try that. He operated it with out any troubles so i used my old revo. A couple hours and a few dink bass and a bunch of smallie follow ups(that's another topic I need help with) My brother in-law says "oh" i look to front of boat and ask "fish?" "No I'm stuck" He's pulling up on the rod and I see it bob a few times "you sure its not a fish?" i ask....Well Yes it was, Next thing I know the whole boat is going for a ride!! I tell him to start reeling. The fish has yet to be seen as it turns and goes under the boat, I reach back lifting my 20hp and the trolling motor outa the water. I here a splash, look behind me as the fish has the rod bent right under the boat and has launched clear on the opposite side, At this point my brother in-law has both hands on the rod and I'm telling him to reel!! Long story short only the head was going to fit in my bass net! I got gloves and got the fish, got the hook outa his gums. My brother in-law wanted a pick so i lift it into the boat. he at least touched it but was too scared to try and hold it! I posed for the quick pick and got it back in the water. It swam off slow with its fin and tail outa the water, I thought i better make sure he was good so i put the trolling motor back in and drove over to it. before i could reach it it make a few quick kicks and swam down til it disappeared in the depths. Our hearts were pounding the biggest musky I ever seen in person and his first ever, it was an adrenaline rush to say the least. In all the events I never thought to measure it. Any guesses on a size because that the first thing i get asked when i show the pic. I'm including a pic I'm 6 foot 2 300lbs so it may not too impressive but it was awsome. I'm sure not too big for musky guys but a day we will never forget! Sorry for bad pic and If I'm not holding it correctly I'd love to tag along with a musky guy for a few lessons
  15. Ha I know it's tough sometimes but this is a lesson I've been trying to drill into my kids as they tend to question or argue with other kids about embellisment. tough to get kids to just let things slide weather it's true or not! Sometimes I like to go right along with their story like I believe the whole tale, some people need to feel better about themselves I guess lol. "Wow! Really? Thats awsome!" I think you know in your own mind what is believable and whats not so don't waste your time or breath arguing with the guy!!
  16. All tourny fish could be tagged before release, then you could confirm it was from tourny and who's livewell it was in. They could be held responsible...or you could do nothing and fish on!!
  17. The second wave came hard but has calmed right down. Hope the good stuff stays to the north!!
  18. round 2 here in Port hope its a lot darker and nastier then the one an hour ago, power is flickering as I type, police scanner reporting a tree down as I type as well!!
  19. I heard the rumor in town here last night. That would be quite the fish!!
  20. Was out yesterday on a stretch of the Otonobee River fishing for bass, I was throwing spinner bait. We came to this one spot and i had a musky follow up to the boat...I don't figure 8 or anything just watch him sink back down...drifting along a few cast later another smaller one follows up. Said to the wife they must be nosey lol. next few casts i see a big flash and my bait goes side ways but, no fish, we drift down further, that tree hanging over the water has me wanting to go a lil deeper so i say to wife I'm going back up stream. The next few casts gave me 3 musky, the first 2 not to be landed but the 3rd bigger one was. Got it outa the net, quick pick and back in. i tell the wife to throw up in the lil bay there, i watch as an other musky grabs her bait. 1000th cast for you i say. Now granted these were all small fish but in a 50 yard or less stretch there had to have been more then 1/2 a dozen musky? Do musky generally school like this or why were they all hanging out here?
  21. he threw the fight he wants out, I hope he lost some purse for that.
  22. I wish I coulda thought it threw more this bird may have had a better chance in the hands of an expert After the fact I thought the same....At the time I could only think about the poor guy on the loosing end. Yes mean doesn't describe the look in that birds eye, he had snapped and wasn't going to stop til the other was dead....I figured it would scare off as we approached, Never thought it wouldn't care i poked it with the net. At the time it never even crossed my mind my own safety. Thanks I'm glad to know there are others with a heart out there
  23. On Mitchell lake Sunday morn and we were ready to pack it in, waiting for the other boat we were with, we seen a loon who appeared to be struggling. I thought maybe a pike has a grasp on him so we moved in to get a look. It actually had an other loon pinned down trying to drown it and beating it with its wings.....What a site!! Never saw anything like it in my days. My natural instinct was to save the bird being attacked. That bird was on a mission to kill the other it didn't care we moved right up on it...I tried to push it off using my net (man they are beefy birds) but it wouldn't budge...i had to move the boat around and tried again this time it dove a few feet away and then came right back to attack. i gave the net to my partner and drove up and got him to scoop the wounded bird into the net. We drove off and left the attacker with a soar look in is eye, The poor bird was beat senseless and we released it way down the lake, I'm not sure he could even recover but I had to try. Looking back I wonder if I was wrong to interfere with nature in this way...it was human instinct or my softness that I couldn't let something be killed like that.
