  1. And thats the exact reason why we need to be in thier train of thoughts when making decisions that might have a negative environmental impact and thats achieved via the development of a strong relationship based on trust and an undertanding that you wont blast out press releases on market wire every chance you can. Instead pick up the phone and call the MPP or MP and have the conversation that needs to be had over ths issue and those reading this and in particular the one who sent me a nasty email today know excatly what the heck I mean there!!!!!!
  2. I asked my Broker that and he said something similar...so when I asked if I could just join the club and use my own personal insurance ( which is better in my brokers opinion) I was told 35 bucks but I still needed to be a member of OFAH....talk about strong arming not the club but OFAH.....
  3. OFAH does do some decent work no question but no doubt the vast majority of monies raised go to cover internal expenses. Here is what I find odd. I also am quite involved with a conservation group, behind OFAH in size of course. Yet we still retain thousands of members, and to date have completed millions worth of conservation based remediation and another million on the books hopefully to start shortly. We are a not for profit group all directors are unpaid all executives remain unpaid, and to top all of this off we add our audited financial statements on our front page of the website so that transparency is there. IMO once a group gets to a certain point it needs hired managers to run it and then the ball starts to tumble.....with more money required to feul the administratative side of things. One of these days someone should ask OFAH if they will provide audited statements that disclose all salary compensation, expenses benefits and beyond of the paid staff. 10% of the monies going to conservation driven iniatives might be right or might be high or low no one knows as I dont know a sole from OFAH that has in fact seen the statements. Brampton Jerry there are a lot of groups that you can be part of that will adress your needs and concerns I just dont think OFAH is one of them at this point in time Another aspect, Insurance I wanted to join a local bass club ( of which I still might join) while I have no issues with the fee 65 bucks I found that part of it goes to OFAH as membership and that I must be a member of OFAH to join this club in order to get the mandatory insurance coverage from them. Now I have personal insurance that after looking at OFAH's and discussing it with my broker, the inusrance I carry is about twice as good as thiers and therefore really means that on the insurance front I dont need to join OFAH, but Im told I still do, go figure. Another is the Simcoe forest, and any one who has ever wanted to hunt this public property must be an OFAH member or you are not allowed to hunt it again from what I see an insurance based issue again....talk about shoestringing someone and forcing them to be a member of one group potentially agaist thier will to be a member of a group they really want. I know OFAH staff read here because the site has come up in some convo's Not a bash at all just some clear facts
  4. Humber and the mouth of the Don have been on fire lately
  5. Havent noticed the smaller males as of yet but ask me in about 4 weeks after we are done lifting and handelling a 1000 plus of fish... As for the lamprey theory is that the lamprey are coming in tight and feasting on fish that are in a staging phase
  6. gotta love when its a secret yet we need to pay
  7. 9000 is a complete joke and really is nothing more then the cost of business. I know of a river in Southern Ontario that has virtually no life in it due to run off out of a factory, they get fines etc and simply pay them because its cheaper to pay the fine then retrofit thier plant...
  8. dont see me with stringers these days too often

Orr is a decent lake with a decent Smallie pop some pike and some largemouth lousy ramp

  17. 2.40 is a great price Is the beef organic? If so at that price its a steal
  18. there are so many great farmers in Ontario within a 3 hr drive that provide some of the best beef imaginable. My brother a few back found an organic farmer who feeds the cattle according to your likes butchered a full cow costs us 1600 and we split it between 3 guys....always well worth the money Not a fan of prepackaged flash frozen anything, as in a vacuum seal it could be well over a yr old and then some...Im pretty sure OFA the farmers association has links to all kinds of great farmers
  19. Lew we all have stories to tell of that dealer, that now has a lazyboy showroom firmly entrenched...Recall quite a few lets put it mildly ( issues ) with them
  20. congrats Im also a 24 day reformed smoker. I smoked well in excess of 2 packs a day, for 24 days I have added 20 bucks a day ( roughly my habits cost) to a jar unreal just how much money it costs to smoke...Ya it sucks its hard I have been a absolute a hole to my family and friends but the temporary pain for the long term gain is worth it... plus 7 grand a yr in extra money sure does buy a mess of fishing related stuff I went cold turkey without having the need to replace one form of the drug nicotine with another
  21. thanks or the insite I ll add a credit card to it tonight makes more sense still dont get how the funds are out of my acct and still not transfered to the seller....guess the interest makes a difference to them...
  22. Bought quite a few things from ebay, but never could understand the utter delay with paypal. In todays financial climate banking transactions and clearing centers push the transactions through a fairly quick pace ( a cheque written today in toronto deposited today in toronto at 10 am is usually cleared by 5 that night. Pay pal takes the money out of my account, sits with it for a 7 days and then the deposit is made into a sellers acct...What gives with this Email sent to paypal a while back and still no response. Anyone shed some light on this one?
  23. Mine is somewhat self explanatory until you know me
  24. Great idea and something many do these days to finance thier vacation properties. Some fod for thought A reasonable cottage in the kawartha's muskoka's or cottage contry as the urban centers of Toronto call it will run in the 400 to 700 k range, property taxes can run well into the 3 to 7 k a year. for the 1 to 2 k a week rentals there are some things that go along with that I suggest you look at some of the cottage for rent sites and some of the sales they have on their.
  25. the internet changes the dynamics no question, our club has seen growth in both paying members and our internet forum. Generally these day most that are paying members are as a result of a promotion to join, or to assist financially in conservation work for more info on the club and things we do www.craa.on.ca
