If the cable goes directly to the VCR then to the TV; then all stations are available to the VCR which allows you to record one station and watch another. If the cable runs to the box and then to the VCR, the VCR will only receive the channel that the box is set to. Thus, you cannot watch one show and record another as you have already discovered. Running the cable to the VCR and then to the box should allow you to record one show and watch anther (I haven't actually tried this). However, you would only be able to record the basis channels. You would not be able to record any channels that required a digital box. You wouldn't be able to record any channels in the triple digit range for example. If your TV has PIP (Picture in Picture) you probably notice that it doesnt' work either. That is because your TV only receives one channel now.

I hold the rod in my left hand and reel with my right for both bait casting and spinning. I actually use two hands to cast but I consider it casting left handed because my left hand always holds the rod in the same place while I only place my right hand on the rod for the cast. Oddly, I used to use cast right handed and use a one handed cast; in my lates teens and early twenties I switched to a two handed left hand cast. I have always reeled with my right hand and used to hold spinning reels upside down and reel backwards. I write left handed, through and curls right handed, and can do most other tasks with either hand.

I pay about $300 a year for a $16,000 boat on my house policy.

Will you be trailering and leaving the motor attached? If so, I would go with a 20hp or 25hp. If you will be removing the motor on a regular basis that I would consider a 15hp for the lighter weight.

I pronounce it Die-a-wa too... it doesn't make any less sense then how Bret Favre pronounces his name.

I get a $30 per year discount for not having a claim for three years. I will lose that if I make a claim. Not a big deal. I have been with the same insurance company for about 20 years. I have made four claims in that time; 2 break-ins, 1 stolen bicycle, and 1 sank boat. I have never experienced any major increase in premiums because of these claims. There are advantages to grouping your policies which includes but is not limited to multi-policy discounts. When my bike was stolen from the bicycle carrier attached to my van, the bicycle was covered by house insurance while the bike carrier was covered by my auto policy. I only had one deductable because I insure both through Monnex. If someone breaks into your garage to steal your boat, then you are much better off if you have both under one policy. Also, your boat does not have to cost as much as your house in order for it to cost as much to insure. That is not the way insurance works. Insurance is based on risk. Boats are higher risk than houses so they cost more to insure relative to the value. You wouldn't need too fancy of a boat in order for it cost as much to insure as your house. The Dec 1st to April 1st rule is a good point though. I will definitely check that out before doing some late March pike fishing.

they don't make them like they used to?
John Bacon replied to bramptonjerry's topic in General Discussion
Do you loosen your drag off over the winter? That will help. I loosen mine off at the end of each fishing day. I think most birds nests in spinning reels are caused by reeling in slack line. Teach them to flip the bail, then pull the rod back to tighten the line before they begin their retrieve. That is second nature to me now and it definitely reduces the number of tangles. -
Each state handles there own licenses so which license you need will depend on which state you are fishing in.

Confirmed! That is already closed! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . there are rumors that it will re-open in the morning.

My old BottomLine from the eighties came with a transformer plug to run it off a 110v source. I also had another power cord to run off of a 12v battery. The unit itself ran was 12v. Without a picture of your unit, could this similar to what you have?

Vehicle .... leasing or financing?
John Bacon replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Does he plan to keeps his vehicle past the term of the lease? If so, I think he find that leaseing for years or so and then buying the vehicle in the end will costing more than purchasing up front. Likewise, trying to get out of the lease early can also be painful. In wife's case; the cost of getting out of a lease was $500 more than making all of the remaining payments plus the buy out price at the end of the lease. There are some advantages to leasing. You will get lower payments. Assuming that you return the car in good condition you are not responsible if the re-sale value takes a beating... like after 2008. I don't think that will be much of a factor now. Returning a vehicle that needs work can also be expensive. Your payments will be a little higher if you finance. But after the loan is paid it is your vehicle. You can drive if for anther five years without making payments. If you buy a new vehicle you can get something for a trade-in. If you have a minor fender bender you can choose whether or not you want to fix it. -
Thanks guys. I ended up visiting all three places. AV opens at 10:00am on Saturdays. Lucky's is supposed to be open 24 hours a day; there is a sign stating to ring the bell... but nobody came to the door. Luckily, Tightlines was open and did have minnows. The derby did go ahead; but there were not too many people entered. The ice didn't sound too safe early in the morning. Once the clouds showed up the ice seemed to firm up. There was some open water on the east side of the bay; I did see a couple of boats out there. I only managed one 9 oz perch. It was the 2nd largest fish at the time; but the pike started biting later in the day so it didn't hold up. Overall it was a good day with people coming from as far away as London. Hopefully we will have a better winter next year so people don't think that they putting their lives at risk by entering.

I think it was about a year ago that he closed down. I am not sure if he had to close or just decided to retire; but he had a sale for about a month and there is a variety store there now.

What is the best place to pickup bait before heading to Frenchman's Bay tomorrow morning? I know Lucky's at Sheppard and Midland sells bait; are they open early? What about Tightlines? Or AV at Sheppard and Shorting? I wish Rerries was still there. I would appreciate your recommendations.

Flights The wife asked me what I was doing on the computer last night. I told her I was looking for flights. "I love you!", she said, and the she got all excited. That night we had the most amazing love-making ever... which is odd because she's never shown an interest in darts before.

The proposal is about providing access for fish to the upper stretches of the Credit River; not about extended fishing seasons. Currently many species are blocked at Streetsville dam. Allowing Chinooks, and coho to pass the dam would give them access to a lot of river that could support natural reproduction. The river below the dam does not contain suitable spawning habitat. Allowing them past the Streetsville Dam alone will open up a lot of access. There is a controlled fishway at the dam. They currently allow the rainbows to pass through but the Chinook and coho are stopped at the dam. Allowing them past that point already gives them access to a lot more river. I am not sure where the next barrier would be. I do recall some barriers upstream of Streetsville recently being removed. Perhaps some the CRAA guys could elaborate.

Border seizure of invasive Asian carp alarms officials
John Bacon replied to addy79's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps the fines should reflect the cost of economic cost of an introduced species. That may make people think twice. -
Yeah, I had Royal Bank charge for insurance on my loan even though the paper work specifically said no-insurance. They didn't even want to give the money back after I pointed it out.

Do you have the one of him trying to clear a birds nest out of that?

Looks like the boat is sitting his drive way. Maybe more staged than photo shopped. With the hydro/telephone poles and lines in the back ground combined with the fact that pictures was taken from outside the boat at a low angle, I would say that the photographer was standing beside a trailered boat when he took the picture. I think the he really does have a bunch of Alabama rigs on his line, but he's not really casting, and not really fishing; just posing with rod. No PhotoShop, just a staged picture taking in his driveway.

Nobody said Legend boats were dangerous; they said that a extremely underpowered boat (i.e. 1/3 of max hp) was dangerous. The only relation Legend is that they seem to be the most likely boat to be that underpowered.

If you are outside in January or February, standing in the middle of a lake, holding on to a piece of metal... wouldn't you want to be wearing gloves anyway? The deep knurles will provide a better grip.

Trolling for Lakers How To
John Bacon replied to Dontcryformejanhrdina's topic in General Discussion
Remember, Baptiste has slot limits and a shorter season... remember to check exeptions to the regs. Baptiste does not have a great number of lakers. -
I am sure Billy Bob feels the same way...
