  1. I would say no. Here is a quote from the article: "Studies show that less than two per cent of a cormorant’s diet consists of sport fish, such as lake trout or salmon. And less than one per cent of a cormorant’s diet is made up of the fish that sport fish eat." What fish are neither sport fish, nor something that a sport fish eats? I think that statement is a load of crap.
  2. That is what I thought when I first heard of this. But, appearantly they are not on the list of federally protected species.

  4. It looks like this family had more than one. Throwing a propane cylinder into a fire??? And he probably thought she was the stupid one.

  8. Browns and bows are not native either.
  9. I think there was a sail boat hit by lightning during a race on Lake Ontario. That was at least 20 years ago. I guess it doesn't happen very often. The question is: is it rare because boats tend to get off the lake; or, it is rare because boats are not a prime target?
  10. Here is an english link to the story... https://ca.news.yahoo.com/quebec-fishermen-catch-first-asian-223700715.html
  11. This was a grass carp. There were already reports of grass carp in Lake Ontario. These are not the jumpers. I am not sure what affect they will have on the lakes; it may not be the disaster that many predict.
  12. Yes, Mercury owns Lund, Crestliner, Princecraft, Lowe, and some fibreglass brands. Yamaha owns G3 boats. There still are some independant brands such as Alumacraft, Legend, and Starcraft/Smokercraft/Sylvan (all one company). But Legend still pair their boats with Mercuray. If you go with Alumacraft or Starcraft/Smokercraft/Sylvan then you may get to choose the motor for the combo providing that the dealer carries more than one brand of motor.
  13. Are lookking at a new or used boat? Crestliner had a recall due to insufficient floatation foam. Buyers lost some of their storage space when the dealers added additional foam. If it is brander new model then you should okay. If it is an older boat then you may want to check that it has the foam added.
  14. Re: "But nobody really liked it." - That's not true. You may not like the city; but there are plenty of people who do. Living in the city give people access to public transportation, lot's of restaurants, night clubs, museums, theaters, etc. all close by. You may prefer to be close to a remote lake, but others prefer to be close to the attractions of a big city. E.g. my co-worker told me that her brother won't live in Toronto because it's too small. He wants to somewhere were there are more people.
  15. Hopefully this guy can turn things around. He hasn't been very effective this year, but he was pretty good the last few years. https://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/2016/05/31/blue-jays-reportedly-trade-for-veteran-reliever-jason-grilli.html
  16. The LCBO is owned by the government. The beer store is owned by the brewers.
  17. Consumption is going down; but they are still building new coal fired plants. There are plenty of other links beside the one that I posted. They appear to be taking steps to limit new plants; but there are still more coming on-line. http://energydesk.greenpeace.org/2016/03/24/china-crackdown-new-coal-power-plants/ http://instituteforenergyresearch.org/analysis/as-u-s-shutters-coal-plants-china-and-japan-are-building-them/
  18. I doubt they would be interested in buying second hand coal plants from us. But that is because they can mass produce them ceaper there than what is would cost to bring them over from Canada. They are building plenty of coal plants. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/12/02/the-truth-about-china-2400-new-coal-plants-will-thwart-any-paris-cop21-pledges/
  19. A faulty charger can destroy a battery on one charge.
  20. I think they are now. Not a bad run though.
  21. Did the batteries come with a warranty? That is a pretty short life. I have had good results with Everstart from Walmart. Others, have also reported good results. I have never tried high end batteries; but I get quite a few years from the lower end ones.
  22. Looks like a good day. Was that the north shore?
  23. Thanks for the info.
  24. Why? Him playing well assured that Toronto would get Pittsburg's 2016 first round pick to go along with their first round pick from 2014. The trade also freed up cap room to help the rebuild. Even if his success did sting a little; it would be more than offset by the fact they were able to unload Phaneuf...
