  1. I was referring to the ability to withstand impact. I think the comment was referring to the commercial showing the tool box piercing the bed of a Ford. I still maintain that the plastic liner will better protect against that kind of impact. Rust protection would be a different conversation; but, I don't think that corrosion should be an issue for Ford's aluminum box.
  2. Actually, a 24v motor will draw less current than a 12v motor. If he had a proper breaker for the old motor, it should be fine for the new setup.
  3. I think a plastic bed liner would protect the bed better than Linex or any other spray in product.
  4. Nice motors. My dad had the same engine (only one) on his cedar strip boat in the early 70s. I didn't think that they were still making cedar strip boats in 1984.

  6. The last couple of summers have been pretty cool too.
  7. It may be easier to make the exchange in Canada. All Canadian banks will have Cdn$ on hand; and I would think they will all accept US$. I am not if there will be an issue for a U.S. resident who doesn't have an account with the bank. Any large town or city will also have specially exchange centres. They may have better rates than the bank; but you would probably need to be exchanging quite a bit of money to make the rate difference worth going out of your way to find one. You could get your money exchanged at Pearson Airport; but that will be a pain to get in an out; and they probably won't give you a good rate. p.s. Many stores, etc. will accept US$. They may not give you a good rate though.
  8. Are you converting U.S.$ to Cdn$? I think that any bank branch can do that.
  9. I think the cold season would affect the bass population. They grow slower in cold water. A lot of the large bass from a few years ago are gone. The medium sized bass from a few years ago may not have grown much (and thus, didn't become large bass) due to the cold weather. Many lakes may have also lost a couple of year classes because the young of the year may not have made it through the winter.
  10. This isn't a bad idea. https://www.facebook.com/videosfishing/photos/a.372209932934230.1073741828.372206306267926/663103187178235/?type=3&theater
  11. The right boat would depend on the type of fishing and any other uses you intend. I do a lot of open water trolling with down riggers, etc., the Princecraft would better suit my needs. If most of your fishing is casing the shallows for bass, then the Champion would be better suited to that type of fishing. The Princecraft would also be better for cruising around the lake with your family too.
  12. Cable drive will give you better control over the steering when your foot is on the pedel. It should also give you better battery life because you are not using battery power to steer. The power drive can be controlled from anywhere on the boat and has the option of auto pilot features such as holding a straight line, locking on a position, saving a trolling route. They also take up less space without the cable foot pedel.
  13. Weight is not the only factor. If you are fishing in windy conditions than the surface area exposed to the wind will probably be a bigger factor than the weight.
  14. Yes, a 36 volt system will draw fewer amps than a 24 volt system which draws fewer amps than a 12 volt system. So you should get longer battery life in addition to extra power. At a given thrust, the draw would be inversley proportional to the voltage. A 12v motor gives you 1 pound to thrust per amp of current. A 24v motor will give you 2 pounds and 36v will give you 3 pounds. If weight and space is not a problem I would get a 36v system. If not then 24v is better than 12v.
  15. Why exactly do you want to get rid of the engine? Is it because you are afraid of having a large repair bill? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to spend thousands of dollars to repower with a new engine to avoid the possibility of a large repair bill in the future. The new engine will come off warranty in a few years too; then you will be back to square one.
  16. Not before seeing the on-line seminar on Wednesday evening He claimed that tieing directly to braid would cut the line. I am not sure if he meant when tie to the leader, to the backing, or both. I guess it can't be too big of a problem if nobody else has ever heard of doing that.
  17. Does anyone use a swivel between copper and braid? Or, just tied directly?
  18. There was a seminar on salmon fishing a couple of nights ago. One of the recommendations was to use a swivel when attaching copper to braid. If you did that to attach copper to braid backing then it would need to go through the guides and on to the reel. That is what promted by question.
  19. That doesn't make much sense. They would be counting on: The person not noticing that the boat had fallen off. Nobody else stopping to remove the boat from the highway. The boat and both motors not being damaged beyond repair. Avoiding a potentially fatal accident (Even if they don't care about killing someone for a 20+ year tin boat, it is pretty hard to steel the boat with all the people stopped at an accident scene) Others may be able to come up with more. Obviously not the best strategy for stealing a boat. It's not uncommon for people add a kicker when they have a six as their main motor... more common for six cylinder motors than six horse power motors though
  20. How well do they stand up to a big Chinook?
  21. Yeah, I was hoping that they would try to sign Price when his contract is up. I think he still has two more years.
  22. If you do head out that way, there is a look out south of Bark Lake. I think it is much better view (and less walking if that matters) than the Eagle's Nest in Bancroft. It is not very well marked though. It is on the south side of the highway.
  23. I thnk that they would have to extend his contract to first. He is a free agent after this season so he won't be eligible for the expansion draft.
  24. Your wife may be interested in the Madawaska Art Shop in Maynooth (She might spend money though). I haven't been there for a few years; but it did have some interesting decorations. There also used to be good butter tarts across the street.
  25. I have a brand new one that I sell for less. I am in Scarborough if anyone is interested in it.
